Much like with collecting mechanicals I've kind of gotten tired of it all and now I just carry a Mora knife in a custom slim sheath and wear a Vostok.

All of them are kind of similar and all good.
Seikos are the cheapest, you can source it for 40 bucks. Extremely reliable and ubiquitous. Miyota 90xxs and ETA 28xxs are similar. Higher beat rate than Seikos and people debate which is better. ETAs are bidirectional but people report issues with handwriting them because of some problem with the crown assembly, I forgot. Maybe they fixed it on 2832s, I don't know. Miyotas are cheaper at $100, while ETAs are 200-250.

They use modified ETA 2824-2 movements, which can be found in Hamiltons, Zodiacs, Marathons, and many high end microshitters. The mountain Jews from Breitling spend the time to replace several components of the movement, installing high quality balance and main springs, balance wheel, escapement, regulator assembly, and shock mitigation deflectors. There’s also a process of adjusting the watches several times over. The end result is marketed as a Breitling B17 movement. On top of that, they get these movements COSC certified for accuracy.

Bottom line: take a workhorse Swiss movement, replace key components with premium parts, undergo positional adjustments, and top it off with COSC certification. That’s a bit of work going into a simple ETA movement

I looked at the previous gen Marine (5817), and there's a lot to love, but it will look even smaller than the 40mm Classique watches since the bezel is thicker and thus the dial smaller.

>> No.15733375

> A water-resistance level of 30 meters means the watch can withstand splashes of water. A level of 50 meters means that it can be worn for swimming in shallow depths. A level of 100 meters means it can be worn snorkeling and a level of 200 meters or more means it can be worn scuba diving. The numbers “50,” “100,” etc., refer to the amount of water pressure the case can withstand, not the depth to which the watch can actually be worn. That’s because wearing a watch underwater subjects it to far greater pressure, due to the motion of the wearer’s arm through the water, than the watch encounters when it is absolutely stationary, as it is when its water-resistance level is determined.

Google is your friend and easy to learn.

It's worth noting that when a screw-down crown comes into the picture the WR ratings are usually accurate, and any watch with "diver" on the dial, usually above the depth rating, has actually been tested to withstand 20% greater pressures than it's indicated rating.

As another anon already said, one would need to generate a lot of force with their arm to make any meaningful pressure difference, this was all laid to rest in a WUS thread a decade ago.

>small objects that doesn't require a lot of phisical space, are kinda useless and can be a money sink for people that has a surpluss of money and that does not have any other decent hobby.

For sure this hobby is not cycling, if you are into cycling you require space to store the bikes, and actually spending time riding and unless you want a top end gear you won't spend a lot of cash and is not a hobby that can impress normies, at most you buy an expensive bike and if you are not fit the better riders with similar bikes will laugh at you while they drop you.For watches all you have to say its the price of the timepiece, talk about horology and normies will look at you thinking you are hot shit or a complete moron for spending that amount of money on a watch.

Only shitters/obscure watches collectors get some real credit as watch aficionados, credit card collectors only end having souless collections.
