That's very interesting. Usually when you see a 24-hour watch it's a 1-hander where they take a GMT movement and essentially only put the GMT hand on it make a dial with 24 hour markings. I've never seen one that still has a regular seconds and minutes hand.

I would love a Grand Seiko watch with a Spring Drive movement, I just don't really have a place for it.

That snowflake like in your picture would make a great everyday watch with the power reserve indicator and the date window, but personally I tend to wear divers as everyday watches because the bezel is useful for timing everyday things. So essentially if I got a spring drive it would have to be as a dress watch specifically, but the only spring drive with no date window or power reserve indicator and only three hands that isn't also 20k+ is the SBGY003, but I think that faceted dial looks too busy to be worn as a dress watch.

Omega Speedmaster.

I could order one right now. My Bitcoin alone increased in value enough today to buy one (it'll crash again soon though). It's not about the money. I just have multiple watches that do what this does better and for much cheaper. My Casio G-Shock has went with me on numerous mountaineering expeditions, and it's more accurate than any mechanical watch. I have a casual Seiko that is titanium and sapphire and looks great while being smaller and lighter.

But I'll never stop wanting a Speedmaster because of its connection to the Apollo Program. Maybe one day I will have enough disposable income to buy it without thought but right now I can't justify it

I feel you, I would also have a hard time without a bezel. Too bad all GS divers/gmts are ugly and huge. When I have money to spare I'll go for one of the SBGAs, but I haven't looked into it for a while.

For the time being I'll stick to torturing myself with my skx's misaligned chapter ring.

This was actually the second higher-end luxury watch I bought, for the same reason. I'm not particularly a fan of chronographs and I don't wear it as often as I'd like to for such an expensive piece (actually my most expensive to-date), but I absolutely love the history and every time I do wear it there's a very special feeling.

I wouldn't bother with any of the special editions or anything if you do decide to go for it. I went for the regular old hesalite version.

It's so industrial without looking too tool-y. I have to admit, the first time I saw it and didn't know who AP was I thought it was just a fashion watch. more than anything it's one of those weird Reddit-tier easy-access hobbies that only require you to spend money buying something without actually doing anything -- "hey look guys I saved up my paycheck for 8 months to buy this watch, isn't it cool"

and as a fashion item -- unless you run in circles where watches carry status and the value is understood and expected -- it's pretty senseless to spend so much money on one, especially those that don't even look their worth at face value

I think the issue there is more that you think people need to recognize the watch and know what it is for it to be fashionable. I get that this is sort of what's expected when you buy high-fashion clothing brands or sneakers these days, but watches I think are something different. I wear decent mid-range watches regularly and nobody who has ever mentioned it to me knew what it was. They just say "oh, nice watch" (which they'd probably say even if it was a Timex or something, as long as it was shiny). Then, because I usually wear watches with some sort of historical background, I tell them the history and they usually think it's very interesting.

>I usually wear watches with some sort of historical background, I tell them the history and they usually think it's very interesting.

fair enough, in that sense there is a grey area

but like I said, purely as a fashion item I draw the line where people here obsess about some innocuous looking watch way above their paygrade when they think it projects some sort of high tier /fa/ image that is in fact completely lost on everyone around them -- that could just as well be substituted with a watch that looks exactly the same but is a couple grand cheaper

I want to get a nice GMT but I hate the looks of the Batman which is like the only one you can get and am generally not a fan of the GMT Master II because of how blingy it is.

What are my other options though?

Vintage GMT Master - maybe the best option but I know I'm probably going to baby it if I get one which I don't want to do.
Tudor GMT - aesthetics are okay and it's cheap/common enough I could beat it up without feeling bad about it but it's too big and thick.

Omega GMT - no local hour jump hand models unless you go vintage and the look is worse than Tudor or Rolex

Sinn GMT - same issue as Omega.

For the moment I'm stuck with my $1000 ETA GMT that is basically a Rolex homage. If Tudor released a GMT in the BB38 case size or a pelagos GMT, that would fix it for me but until then I think I'm stuck in the shitter range.
