Masks prevent your disgusting fucking spit and body fluids from being spread around the place when you coof and sneeze and splutter around.It's to prevent you from spreading the shit around, which only protects people if everyone does it. They're as protective as a cloth mask, and like a cloth mask, it's only there to comply with mask laws.

If you actually want to be 100% safe from an airborne virus, you'll need to wear a respirator with P100 filters. But you're not going to go to all that trouble, so why not just wear a bandana?

They aren't great bank-robber style, but I've been folding it over a few times to make a band that just covers my mouth and nose and I can generally get a snugger fit than most generic cloth masks. I'm up and moving a lot at my job and not always in close proximity to people and I've been using a bandana because it's easier to pull down around my neck and keep up with than a mask I have to put down somewhere or shove in my pocket to get covered in lint.
