This thread is for the well dressed man and those seeking to improve their dress by exploring colors, patterns, textures and other styles while appearing more mature, elegant and refined.
>What is “sprezzatura”?
Required viewing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QG4lTMjWtY&feature=youtu.be
Required reading: https://parisiangentleman.co.uk/2017/02/24/how-obsession-with-sprezzatura-can-kill-the-sprezzatura/
>Do I have to be European to wear this style?
Absolutely not. Anyone can wear this as long as they are confident and don’t care what people think. You should be dressing for yourself, not for others. Is this style more common in Italy and other Mediterranean countries? Absolutely. But you could wear this wherever you are.
>How is this different than Trad/Ivy/Prep?
Whereas the /TIP/ threads favor classic styles and tailoring, wider fits and more drape, Mediterranean and modern menswear favors slimmer cuts, tailored closer to the body to accentuate and flatter your body. Slim fit is allowed and in many cases encouraged.
>Where should I start?
Start with sport coats and mix and match with trousers. Experiment with colors and patterns. Don’t be afraid of color. This isn’t business style, where bland conformity is the norm. We want to be colorful, and experiment with fabrics. Wear linen, wool, cotton, anything you want.

To be fair that thread is filled with horrid fits.
Styles get co-opted quite often and sprezzatura is no exception. Rather than staying faithful to the core tenets of nonchalance and elegance bugmen picked up on it and turned it into a mockery of itself. Same thing happened with workwear. Notice how so many of the dudes sporting trashy, loud, tasteless suits also have hipster beards.

Yeah, seems excessive. If it's me I'd try for 2 full suits a year, and maybe a sport coat every couple months or some new trousers to mix and match with the coats. If you're going to be buying an item regularly, it should be a shirt as they wear out a lot quicker.

The waistcoat is coming along, here is a detail of the inner construction. Probably did this "wrong", as the layer order is outer-pockets-canvas-lining in my case, but usually it is outer-canvas-pockets-lining. The reason for this change is that my relatively thick linen canvas, instead of horsehair interlining, would make the pockets really bulky. Once it's done I'll post a comparison to my cheap RTW waistcoat.

>It seems like sprezzatura is more structured in their minds than they claim.

It is in a way, as elegant does tie in with formal and denim jackets etc. are not elegant (nor formal) .

That's why throwing random items together is not sprezz.

A denim jacket over a tie/waistcoat says to me you're going to some event and are just wearing that to protect your clothing underneath and have every intention to take off the denim jacket (leave it in your car) before entering the event.

>>15700257
Because there are cross overs so lists are not exactly set. Can a denim a jacket work in a certain way? I'm not so sure about that. Can a Harrington? I'd say absolutely yes.

Instead of lists, you need to be working on a core and building from that asking yourself does it come across as it's supposed to. How does a denim jacket look over say a suit to you? Elegant, odd or mismatched? To me, it looks mismatched. Now how does a shirt, no tie and a Harrington jacket look? To me matched and does not look unbalanced.

Sprezz is a journey of learning, it's not down to a simple list of an iron set of rules. That's why so often people really fuck it up. Didn't it take Hugo Jacomet many years himself before he felt he mastered the look as much as he can or be fully comfortable.

Reminder to ignore all trolls and keep wearing your sexy ass suits and jackets, friends.

Got a new job and I need new pieces of everything so I have stuff to rotate throughout the work week. I will be wearing shirt, tie and dress pants every day.

Unironically thrift them or buy batches (40 ties, 1 euro each. There'll usually be plenty of 100% silk ones among them. Definitely beats buying one 100% silk tie for the same price) off ebay or whatever. There's loads of people that don't have to wear a tie anymore and need to get rid of them. The added benefit is that thrifting you get some older ties that are quite a bit broader than the narrow bullshit you see these days.

None. The cheaper the brand the more they appeal to the masses the larger the armholes are made as a one size fits all solution. As far as I know there are no made to measure programs that let you change the armhole size. Best solution I can give you on a budget is buy a quality jacket on sale or used and take it to a great tailor. He has to be above average as most tailors won't even touch the shoulder/sleeve. For $180-$200 you can adjust the armholes to your liking.

It looks great an is very suitlike, maybe choose a lighter tone for the trousers if you want to avoid a suit look.
For the pub you could still wear a tweed jacket if sticking out is your concern.

Unstructured custom order blazers for ~220USD. I picked out a seersucker jacket, patch pockets, wide peak lapels, and a few other options.
200 bucks is cheap enough to not care if they're not super amazing or not, especially since it's completely unstructured which is the absolute dream for hot weather.

Yeah probably cotton, maybe with a bit of wool mixed in considering how smooth it looks compared to normal twill for instance.

What's your budget? Many of the stores mentioned in the thread can do stuff for $200 if you catch a sale. Also see pic rel. I just got a Spier and Mackay jacket on sale for like 200, they only line the sleeves and tops of shoulders, which seems pretty normal for Neapolitan styled things.

Does not include the fly cover and belt, it's really easy to get common dimensions from something you own already, I do it like this all the time.
Make sure to take the waist measurement at the point where your trousers should sit, i.e. natural waist line for high rise, hip bone for mid rise, etc.

Here you go. Left version is without pleats, rise to hip bone, no correction for sagging front and crease line, as explained in >>15712664
I get this on RTW trousers, too, so it's easy to check whether you actually need this adjustment.
The second one obviously has pleats and a higher rise, the front sags even if I go to my natural waistline, so I did the correction and it results in a straight waistband.

This one said it >>15713449, also how cheap are cheap bedsheets? They should be sufficient for a pair of trousers.
The cheapest muslin I found online was about 5 or 7 EUR/m, the fabric of the blue trousers was a scrap sold for 6 EUR, the other one is 9 EUR/m. Fabric from your local shop is about 15 EUR/m. You need about 1.5m of fabric for trousers.
Consider this, I think that bedsheets are about as expensive unless you take really old ones that you want to throw out anyway. You won't be able to wear the bedsheet trousers later, but there are affordable fabrics that don't look too bad.
You are right, though, I wouldn't start out with really expensive stuff either.

Yes, as far as I understand you need to have an actual business and order commercially from those companies. At least their website does not offer to buy cloth directly. Can't hurt to contact them and ask if they sell to you as an amateur, too?
There are retailers for those fabrics, too, though. For one, I found a shop with higher quality fabrics when I was looking for Harris tweeds. There are some mills/shops that sell organic cloth, those are either small businesses that want to provide high quality or it's a shop that sells cloth from a larger manufacturer and gets a certification for the organic label.
It boils down to looking repeatedly and trying loads of different search terms.
