It's been a while since the last one I posted but I'm back with a rotationanon/casinoanon Autumn/Winter 2020-21 rotation.

A couple of new things added, some old ones brought back and a few gone but it's been a hard year to really stay interested with the relative lack of any decent new releases, the inability to try new releases without buying samples or have the chance to wear anything but around the house frags most of the time.

To most people perfumes are just something to smell nice to attract the opposite sex so even though I'm happy to talk about it, know your audience. If people ask I'm happy to elaborate, but randomly throwing out that I own multiple bottles might confuse many people.

Really good, it's not that original but it's so smooth and well blended that it really surprised me. I originally got it as a throwaway sample and just kept on wearing it and re-sampled the brought a full bottle. It's in a similar territory to Spicebomb Extreme and Layton but much smoother and more well blended but still with a spicy kick that isn't loud or screechy like SBX can be to some people. Doesn't project that much after an hour but lasts well.

>>15706810

I've got Meander on order and tried Overture back in the summer. Didn't really think that much of it though which surprised me because on paper that looked like something I'd really like because I love resinous incense and cognac.

I just heard completely conflicting statements about them. I smelled one and did not buy it. I think it was the edt. That said I like DB more than BdC. Just feels a bit more laid back and versatile and has that summer night at the beach vibe to me.

Though BdC is definitely the better office fragrance. If you have some money and just want to smell good in a suit at the office? BdC wins hands down. I'd probably go for the edt as well.

It's a fougere, a modern one, out of thousands. Nice and dry with a cypress touch, extrait concentration, and lacking the sweetness that an alternative bdj has in the drydown. They are absolutely part of the recent, out of nowhere, "I'm totally a luxury brand" cash grab. I like the scent, it was $129 shipped, and I needed some cypress in my life. I agree. Nishane has a couple scents I liked, Fan my Flames and Wulong Cha were kind of cool, but most of their stuff just didn’t interest me (and yes, several were pretty blatant clones). I might like sultan vetiver, but nothing more is really jumping out at me from their catalog. Ambra calabria was kinda neat, I enjoyed it, but I don't know if I want a green amber scent. Like cut stems and amber, and you know, other stuff. I just don't have the urge to smell that all that often. I have a bunch of grossmiths coming like everyone else apparently, they kinda reek of fake luxury also, but it's the scent I'm interested in. Getting hung up on the marketing doesn't matter too very much to me if they have a product that is worth overlooking some of the distasteful facets of the image they might have.

Can u guys make me a minimalist frag collection?

Looking for 3 frags max. 1 for spring/summer, 1 for fall/winter, and then 1 for special occasions. I need the 2 frags for the seasons to be crowd pleasers as I work with a lot of people.

What I like: tobacco, vanilla, warm spicy, rose

What I've tried: Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan, MDCI Chypre Palatin, Jubilation, D&G The One EDP, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille

What I thought: Ambre Sultan was a hard pass for me. Reminded me some some frags id smell in a nursing home or grandmas house. Chypre Palatin and Jubilation were nice, but not really my style. They reminded me of some sent in my past which I just don't like. D&G the one EDP was very nice, loved the grapefruit and tobacco, but it didn't last for shit and seemed to lack the depth that the others had which I really liked. It wasn't unique enough basically. Tobacco Vanille was really nice, made me want to eat my arm, but it too I felt wasn't complex enough.

For the spring/ summer im pretty set on Creed Aventus. But im lost when it comes to my special scent and when it comes to the fall winter one. I have coming in the mail samples of spicebomb, Guerlain Santal Royal, Tom Ford Noir extreme, and Guerlain Ideal EDP. Should I add anything to this?

For tobacco: Naxos will resolve the lack of complexity from Tobacco Vanille while also being great for special occasions and just general fall and winter use (make sure to expect a fougere)
Another good option that fits both f/w and special occasions is Ambre Nuit, since you like rose and warm spicy. It's also always a good idea to get to know Musc Ravageur.
I'd never reccomend Aventus for performance issues on the current formulation, but if you like it go ahead

Alternatively for a crowd pleasing af spring/summer one with great projection and longevity there's PdM Percival. Naxos and Bleu Lazuli are both smooth tobacco variations, one with honey the other with vanilla and a slight spiciness. Diptyque Tam Dao EDP and AdP Colonia Concetree Sandalo are much smoother sandalwood variations worth considering if you like Santal Royal.

Not really sure about rose ones (I think ACCD is the only one I have with a prominent rose note), isn't a note I like that much and isn't that many decent spring/summer rose ones. Maybe it's worth trying Tom Ford Noir de Noir if you like rose but with a rich, chocolatey twist.

You blind bought one of the most polarising designer scents around. I personally love it but it seems like there's no middle ground. You might either think it smells like an abandoned piss cupboard on a train with a half-hearted attempt at cleaning it with some cheap bleach. Or maybe you'll think it's a beautiful, fresh, clean fragrance with a dirtiness underneath that smells like somebody freshly showered, but sweating on a hot day. Compared to how it used to be it's very tame, but relative to most designer things these days it could be seen as a strange choice. But let's face it, there's a reason it still gets sold on most counters 40 years later.

I've tried bengale rouge (of which i bought a bottle after), tobacco rose (contemplating a bottle), and now salome. They are very very different, but all incredible quality. The other day I got a sample of portrait of a lady just to remind myself whether tobacco rose or portait is the best rose frag I've smelled.. and it is easily tobacco rose.
For salome, it's a dense musky thing that also reeks of earthyness, it's great, but generally not my style.. I am the guy who often wears en passant, l'eau d'hiver, chypre palatin, etc.. I prefer things a bit more subtle. Tobacco rose fits this nicely as it is simple a beautiful pure rose with a slight ashy background
