Why is it so difficult to find pants that are meant to be worn at the waist, not at the hips? Modern cut pants make you look like a complete slob.

because fashion trends change and those had a specific purpose in the 50s and 60s but they really don't anymore

What purpose did natural-waist trousers have that they don't anymore? They're still more comfortable, are better at keeping a shirt tucked and neat, and flatter the proportions of most men better than trousers that sit on the hips. Even before menswear as we know it, leg coverings nearly always sat at the waist because anatomically speaking it's a more functional design. It's entirely fair to adopt low pants as a trend, but it's pretty frustrating to see that most people have forgotten the objectively better clothing design of the past. Thankfully high-rise has been gaining traction in men's fashion and has been en vogue with women's clothes for some time now.

>> No.15705369

Look man I’ve been there and I know exactly how you feel. Every guy you know wears low-rise jeans and pants that sit below the waist. That’s just the way most pants are made these days. I understand wanting to separate yourself from the pack, but I really recommend just leaving the pants that go up to your tits to women. You’ll look retarded otherwise.

If I saw a man with suit pants up to his navel I’d laugh my ass off. It’s not in style, and it’s basically reviewbrah-level LARPing.

But it looks so much better. Maybe what's "in style" is the problem.

High waisted with double pleats is where its at. The pleats create ease of movement and the drape of a properly tailored pair can create a dramatic yet elegant silhouette.

60% of your body is leg, yet people often neglect the importance of proper fitting trousers. Getting into traditional style trousers like these made me realise how they can actually be the defining part of an outfit.

They do require inspiration and a specific wardrobe to pull off properly though so bare that in mind. You have to be into traditional menswear and vintage stuff to really cultivate a style that works with them.

None of the pants in the picture are pleated so I don't know what you're referring to. I'm not a fan of 1950s levels of fullness in pants, but I think people should definitely embrace something roomier than is currently common.

>>15705369
I don't know why you think it's crazy high having your pants sit at the navel, it's only a few inches higher and it's how legwear has been for countless centuries and was normal until the 90s.

It's possible to have high rise pants without having a wide boxy silhouette. Look at pants in 80s movies they were typically either wide top block with aggressive tapering or just plain slim.
(Pic not from 80s but style I'm describing.)

High waist pants for men aren't coming back anytime soon for the simple reason that fatties look terrible in them.

You need to know how to balance it. Even on women I think high waist things are hit or miss. It's hard to nail that balance which is probably why it went out of fashion

If you wear high waisted pants make sure the hems are high as well
Wear some shoes that give you some more height, some god damn high heels if you have to.
Wear a loose coat/jacket to go with it.

it's when you're wearing high waisted pants with the crotch fabric stifled up your balls, the rear showing your squashed buttcheeks, with them loose bottom hems scraping the ground that you look like either a LARPer or an old man that escaped the nearby mental institution

That's exactly why they are better. It's time to distinguish ourselves from the fats. We can't allow the fats to define our fashion. I'm so fucking tired of hip-rise, large waist, skinny thigh pants for fat weak people. If you have a 31 inch was it and 25 inch thighs you can't even get pants that fit, because of fat people. I am extremely mad.

Fatties literally look better in high rise trousers, an over-navel waistband is slimming and contains the belly, unlike the gut spilling over the waist of low trousers which looks yokeltastic in all cases.

Braces are also superior for lardos as they allow the trouser to be cut roomy, instead of having to cut into the soft flabs with a belt to stay up.

There is a whole portion of the industry in Japan dedicated to accurate reproductions of vintage clothing, c.1940~1960. The problem is they mostly focus on military wear, not dress pants, but occasionally you can find some. Buzz Rickson makes great chinos with a wider cut and high rise. Downside is the import cost.
