The MN style is adjusted by changing the length of the part that loops back on itself, so it'll likely be double the thickness in part. The paratrooper is just a single length strap, you adjust the part that the buckle hooks on to, I've got this exact strap from them but in olive and I cut the excess off to make the strap easier to put on, it also makes the strap thinner as it doesn't really double over itself for the most part.

That's already very good for a movement like that, you provably won't get it any better. There's gonna be some positional variation in normal use anyway and it might drift with time. Without a timegrapher it will be a pain to adjust anyway.

I figured since the 36 was the odd one out with they'd change it in 2020 to match the others - but instead they kept the batons, made the 39 bigger and gave it the uglier dial, and discontinued the white dial 34. GS 9f it's being wrongly said that the service interval is 50 years. I doubt its that high, but probably will be a lot of years, more than the average quartz, and keep in mind most of quartz shitters will last 10-15 years without breaking or even more, only battery changes and the watch will run fine for 3 years. Only seals and gaskets is something that eventually will start to fail, that happens to every watch, but its something does not happen fast.

Building the models is like bonsai. It's very relaxing pruning the nubs off the parts and shaving them down. Some people can slam them together in half an hour but it takes me a week with work and I enjoy it.
Also you might as well pick up some dirt cheap automatic or a movement and just try poking around with it. I think watchmaking is like coding, people think anyone can do it but it requires genuine interest or it's just not happening.

Yeah, that's definitely true. And I get the relaxing part of it. It's nice to be able to take your time and focus on something. It's why I had intended to start work on a project car in my spare time, but it's an expensive hobby even if you're just working on junk.

Surprised nobody has posted this but fountain pens. When I was a student I used to go looking around antique shops and stumbled into fountain pens, trying to find affordable pens at first then crazy steals. After that, I found a vintage longines and got into watches, which overshadowed fountain pens. It's funny how I used to think 500 for a Mont Blanc was crazy when now I justify much more for watches.

It’s mainly from sunlight. More specifically it’s UV radiation that causes the aluminum insert to fade. The bezel stays glossy even when faded because Rolex put on a clear coat beneath the old bezels. It’s often said that salt water contributes too which is true but in a different way - chemical corrosion as a result of salt will wear down the clear coat over time and if you just left an old Rolex watch in saltwater for an extended period of time, the fading would end up looking quite different (and worse).

I have no idea how Vostok installs their bezels or how they treat them so I won’t speculate.
