Why do you see some of these old watches on such a chain bracelet? Were they actually comfortable to wear? And how do you prevent the watch from spinning and twisting. Flat bracelet seems much more stable.
It's not a ladies watch, seen several mens watches liek that or with just a very narrow bracelet of about 12 mm on watches that are about 38mm.

That watch is for wearing on your ankle, it's a weird holdover that was popular in the british upper class for a while, wristwatches were considered declasse and it was also considered incredibly rude to check your pocket watch, so at Fancy dinner parties aristocrats would wear these ankle watches and then check the time by pretending to adjust their sock garters.

They also put the fat speedy on thes dinky straps. It looks stupid. But maybe a narrow bracelet is less disturbing and you feel it less on the wrist? I don't get the idea.
Being able to adjust it stepless is already a huge plus. But the narrow part is what makes me curious.

in the past rolex watches, and many other watches, were a combination of tool and jewelry. it had to look good because it was the one acceptable piece of jewelry for a man other than a wedding ring, so it was what many men used to show individuality. there was incentive to try out different looks to attractive more customers but to keep everything grounded for mass appeal. and at the end of the day it was also a tool, primarily for checking time that had to be on the wrist all the time. so being unobtrusive and comfortable were also a concern.
now, no matter what faggets say, watches are like 99% jewelry for most people. so they are big and brash and retarded. rolex set the trend and you can see this in the comparison between the original and new daytona. the old daytona had its flourishes but was sensibly proportioned, very pleasing to the eye and built as an instrument. the new daytona is practically engorged, and the maxi case is not only ostentatious, but uncomfortable to wear for all but the biggest ham wrist.

Excellent everyday watches, but try one on in a boutique before buying (and I suggest buying online/grey-market because these devalue heavy like most Omega). Good water resistance, good wrist presence, good movement, good lume, no problem watch. You could argue that it's 'entry-level', but if it performs as well as it should and you love looking at it every day, then why not.

>>15691070
The 'waiting lists' have been proved as a falsehood by just about every YTber who is serious about watches. In short, a boutique will tell you there is a waiting list in order to say politely to fuck off. Rolex has a policy about 'preferred customers', who are either celebrities or people who have spent money with them before. The purpose of this is to keep the numbers of these models low, and thus maintain or increase the desirability of specific models that in the past were not desirable (look at the history of the Daytona specifically). Don't worry about it; if you want one, buy in the grey market and pay the premium. Or ignore them like I do and spend the money on watches that are either more unique or have more complications. You can get a lot for 10,000....

The other day I was reading reddit and some guy posted his OP and said that he got lucky and purchased the watch, apparently he went to the store, wanted the oyster perpetual, they told him they didnt have the watch, put them into a list, one year later the dude was with his gf and wanted to buy something near the shop and they entered to see if they had something they could buy, the dude told the store again to put them both at a list since they wanted two watches, when they were about to put him on the list he was informed he was already on the list for another watch, talked about it and then then he got his OP that casually was there on the safe, meaning that watch was there for a long time and the AD just wait for someone rich to buy it and not some random dude and they finally sold it to him after seeing that the watch needed to be sold.

Yup. The deuber case is also plain (i.e. no design of any kind on it), so I want to keep things consistent. Wearing a pocket watch is already a silly thing to do, so at least if I keep things 'conservative' it'll look like I'm making some kind of effort. The dial has a small crack at the 31.5 minute mark, but other than that it's pristine. The hands are NOS from my watchmaker, and it's running at 0.0 upright, +1 per day dial up. Since I can easily adjust it myself, I've got it running very well indeed.

>>15691201
In short, the issue is that the only desirable lines in steel in Rolex are the Submariner, the GMT, and the Daytona. If however anyone could buy them at any time, they'd be as common as cauliflower and just as hard to stomach. So Rolex created artificial scarcity (artificial because it doesn't line up with their manufacturing capacity) in order to push other parts of their lineup that no one wants (the Cellini, the Air King, etc.). 'Traditional' customers should have spent approx. 15-20,000 (i.e. 2-3 watches) in Rolex purchases prior to being given the opportunity to get a preferred customer stainless steel watch, with the Daytonas being the highest grade in this category. To prevent customers from being upset in today's 'everyone is equal' environment, they're being told instead that they need to be on a waiting list. There are people online who have waited a decade on a waiting list only to find out that it doesn't exist of that they've been struck off of it years prior.

As for watches needing to be moved...it's a rare thing, so I'd be skeptical of the account you mention. SS Rolexes will always move, without hesitation. If it's done through backdoor dealings, then it has to be done the day of prior to the store closing after they get one in.

>>15691207

Maybe the brand was deleted or modified, I saw a picture from the Victorinox and they blocked the logo with some duct tape on a shit way, so maybe SENSOR was the brand or they invented it, I guess the watch was modified in some way because they had to put that KILL on the LCD screen, so maybe the watch was a prop watch like Arnie's watch from Commando.

It's not leather, it's sharkskin. That being said, I do understand why it disgusts you; the integration of metal with organic 'skin' is Borgish, if anything. Omega has been doing curved ends for years with their models on leather though. I prefer it if I can get it. Sadly these Leonardo Hirsch straps haven't been made for over a decade at least, and the Omega straps are rudely expensive.

I'm still deciding what to get for this one, as well as the 1861 that is still sitting in fucking customs. I know that Speedies are strap monsters in general, but I don't want a bunch of them, I just want 1 alternate in addition to the bracelet. Thoughts? (no nato...I hate natos as they're very uncomfortable for my skin and they seem to put extra wear on the springbars I have).

Hm, then it makes sense to keep it a bit lower with the watch. Adjusting a watch on the fly seems fun. Never done it but i'll get myself one of these watch time grapher apps pirated and try it out on a watch.

Also cool omega. Used to hate them due to the hands but the newest seamaster 300 made me like them and then i started appreciating the old designs. Especially the painted and non blinged dial seems even nicer than the modern version to me.
>>15691229
Ah, that seems the most logical. I imagine it was fun for the props guy to resolder the lcd. They seem to have used something different than the 7 segment display. The symbols look really different.

Those straight lines.. regular 7 segment cant do that.
I wonder if they really customized some different display and fitted some IC and connected it with wires instead to the Board. Seems to be very complicated just for one scene. Maybe just used special effects?

Pocket watches are far easier to deal with if you've had them serviced properly because everything is larger. You can literally use a pin to adjust the regulation screw, and timing machine programs can be found online which you use with a microphone hooked into your computer. Since pocket watches are fucking loud, it won't get confused. But the pocket watch is only in my pocket, pendant up, or on my desk dial up, so depending on what is going on in the day I'll adjust it up or down to keep it steady. I wouldn't touch anything else though in the movement...that's just foolhardy.

The Mark 40 is a watch I've wanted all my life since I was a kid, but only recently pulled the trigger after finding one at a 'can't miss' price on eBay. These ones are VERY affordable right now because no one knows they exist. I like this aesthetic, I like the complexity of the dial, I like the complications, and it's around 39mm so it's smaller than everything else I have except the 1963 Seagull. The Valjoux 7751 winds far more efficiently than the Seamaster, so it's really my go-to watch now. Covid put an end to scuba trips.

I can understand Omega's modern aesthetic though (to reference your comparisons with 'blinged' dials); they're trying to push into the Rolex market as a direct competitor, and even though they can compete with their movements, they still don't 'look' as rich as Rolexes tend to look, so they compensate with bling. It's a tough call...I find modern Omega to be somewhat...supersaturated? Can't think of a better word for the collections.

The Hirsch was expensive when I bought it in 2007ish...but that's what happens. The price listed for your pic probably has to do more with the NOS buckle branded with Omega than the actual strap though, but quite honestly straps and other accoutrements are just a way of getting the customer to spend more on the brand than they need to. That's why I tend to go with Hirsch, as they were a known supplier for Omega, Panerai, and others for some time. I have no idea if they are still suppliers though....but it doesn't matter. Leather jackets becomes 'how can you afford a jacket that is 800 bucks?'...precious metals becomes 'how can you afford to get shipments every month?'...sexy women becomes 'I'm so lonely'...it's human nature to want what we don't have at the moment, and threads concentrate the disparity in the mind of the viewer.

One of the most important things will be a connection to the sewage system. It's a Miyota 4800-01A movement and was fairly popular during that time. They stuffed it in all kind of watches. When you google the movement you'll find many variations. Seiko also used it.

Speaking broadly and possibly entirely off-topic, pre- and WWI era mens watches were pocket watches converted for wrist use, with some crude lugs rigged on top. A thin leather strap and off you go. The most you would get in terms of "rugged" would be a bund-type strap and a grid dial cover. Waterproofing of watches was a thing already in the 19th century, it seems.

The basic Montblanc are unremarkable and generic overpriced luxury. However their Minerva produced pieces, like the OP, are high horology at its finest with genuinely great watch making. Still a bit overpriced though.

Nice, that's what I like about watches, finding models, searching similar models, stopping movies and seeing what watches are being used.I like all of that more than using horology as a way to show off the wealth like shallow people do.

The watch on the picture is similar to the one what I posted,it seemed to be pretty tacticool specially when a compass on the bracelet, as a fan of ana-digi watches the watch desing is pretty nice.

No, from what I have seen nobody is able to identify the watch, and looking at the picture is like trying to see if the yeti was real or not,all we have is some blurry frames, at most it is know that the design looks like a military chrono or some tag heuer, looks pretty generic, black dial, some white/silver logo, no distinctive forms or shapes.

I'm reading mixed things on the cheapestnatostraps. Can anyone vouch for their quality? Id rather buy quality once then pay the price twice

>> No.15692775

>>15692744
They're nice. I bought a few from them and am very satisfied. Though I will say unless you're looking for a special strap color or pattern you should just buy the cheapest option on ebay. Cheapestnatostraps has their jubilee straps on sale now so that's worth a look. There's really no point in going expensive with nato straps unless you can't find what you're looking for. I really wanted a bmw M colors nato and could only find it at CNS. And I also recommend always going for a single pass strap, I only get a nato now if I can't find the colors I want on a single pass.

their quality is very spotty and all over the place
i have bought 2 times from them so far (minimum 5 items to get the 20% discount, 12 straps in total) I can show receipts if you want
>normal leather
real leather but you get what you pay for. Basic $10 strap starting to show desk scuff marks after 1 wear
>their inhouse Kvarnsjö leather
waaay too thick and uncomfortable (its like 4.5mm thick)
>stamped "ostrich" leather
not bad, actually.
>suede leather, single pass nato
the softest leather ive encountered, extremely soft, maybe too much. The keepers are metal and due to the softness of the suede folding the leather back under onto itself is a hassle
>2 piece nylon
my favourite from them, comfortable
>perlon
utter dogshit cardboard perlon, even the "premium" one, very scratchy and buckle feels cheap
>nato
passable but keepers are not as good as the $2 Aliexpress one that I bought. Slightly stiff
>MN straps
its fine but a pain to adjust, didnt like it but probably not due to their quality, just the inherent properties of a elastic band.

tl:dr
dont bother. if you want nato straps get them from aliexpress, pick the one with the solid ROUNDED keepers, despite the low price these are the best natoes i own.

I got a couple of straps from them and they're good enough for the price. I ended up buying them because I needed a 19mm single pass nylon strap which isn't a very popular size or type of strap, but they had a really good choice and the seatbelt style strap I got is pretty decent quality. I also got a MN style strap just to try it out and I'm glad I did, it's comfy but I wouldn't want to buy a proper expensive version.

Very based. Been doing this too recently. The first loop should be movable too. This thing has to be some sort of planned fail point. You have to bend the whole strap so much just to get it thru. Not good over the years.

This. Hope you can find it used. But they seem to be still popular and not expensive. This one looks better. Field watch dial and divers case and bezel, cool combo. Bezel pips add charme.
The duro is a bit boring and not as special looking as this one. Yet another diver.
