Compliments don't mean anything because most people have terrible standards. If you wear anything slightly nicer than what the people around you are wearing, you'll get compliments no matter how bad your fit and color combos are. I used to get compliments all the time for wearing the cringiest H&M shit because no one around me put any effort into their clothing.

Second pic looks better because the dark overcoat balances out the colors of the outfit. Still, something about the pattern and color of the shirt clashes with the tie. It looks busy without looking coherent. I think it's a combination of
>width of diagonal stripes on tie are roughly the same as width of checks on shirt
>none of the colors in the tie compliment the colors of the shirt

>> No.15673170

>>15673154
yeah I agree with this except for sparse dots/ creature print. Might clash with the small gingham check. The trick to mixing patterns is that there has to be a high contrast between the sizes of each pattern.

Another good option for the tie might be MUCH wider stripes or a windowpane check. Either that or keep the tie and wear a solid blue shirt

There are at least two anons here actually trying to give you constructive criticism though. You best take what you can get.

don't burn a BB shirt bro. It looks fine by itself, just not combined with that tie

>> No.15673223

>>15673177
I have not commented yet. Your fit doesn't seem terrible, just out of place in a few areas, like you have two good fits mashed together. It is tough to get a good perspective when your pics are A) only of half the outfit and B) sideways.
Do not burn the tie or shirt. Both are good but perhaps not together. As another anon said when utilizing two different patterns there should be a distinct difference in pattern size. Small check large stripe is much better than small check small stripe.
Even with that said >>15673121 doesn't seem too bad to me. It is an extreme closeup though.
4chan is going to shit on you no matter what and /tip/ is especially egregious about it. Not sure what you expected. in the past 6 months I've seen maybe two fits that no one shit on. Just how it is here.

Not a fan of the tie/check/sock combo. I'd worry about the contrast between the jacket and trousers. It'd be good without the tie (and clip) and possibly a different jacket. It's tricky as the check is on the larger size which makes it less formal, but then combining it with a tie and clip bring it up - either upgrade the shirt or lose the tie imo, maybe change the jacket to a shawl cardigan

>>15677114
Don't think this works - the shirt colour doesn't go with the trousers and the gold button blazer is too formal and structured to go with no tie and a shirt like that.

>>15677916
Looks p good. I'd be worried about nearly not enough contrast between the jacket + trousers and sweater + trousers but desu its pretty safe - navy + grey. Definitely needs the pale shirt to lighten the whole thing. I'd consider maybe an oatmeal sweater. Hard to tell given the lighting though, helped by the contrast of smooth wax vs the flannel.

Looks a touch big - if it were raglan shoulder would be fine with cuffs rolled up but the shoulder seam is coming off the end of your shoulder by the looks of things - try a size down.

Colour wise - neutral shirt, navy/tan trousers.

Tend to disagree here. Size down would be too tight on his body. Shoulder fit isn't nearly as important on a cardigan as it is a blazer/suit. You do not want a body hugging fit on a cardigan unless you want SEX tonight.

Looks good and comfy to me

>> No.15677987

>>15677980
I agree in terms of the fit - the body I think looks ok. I think it would be worth trying a size down which may help a bit with the sleeves, but there is the risk of it being tight in the chest. Like you said, not as big an issue with knitwear. Would be worth rolling up the sleeve cuffs though probably. I would probably wear it for a bit and see how I felt, or try both sizes and see, or hit the gym and do some lat raises to get joocy delts

Not sure if it's the camera angle but looks like the focus is much more on the stomach/waist region than the chest area - maybe a pic from a higher level/not looking up so much? Feels like the chest has been really downplayed. Something just looks off proportion/fit wise.
Colour wise the top half is safe but classic - herringbone tweed + blue + dark red/maroon, can't really go wrong. Are the trousers a dark grey flannel? You've got good contrast between them and the jacket which is tricky with a grey+grey fit, nicely done. Shoes?

Pretty sure it's the angle. This is from higher up and almost dead on. Tough taking pics alone at home. Never mind the sweats or untucked shirt - it's late here and this is just to better show the jacket proportions.
Trousers are merino lambswool, Edward Moon. Too rough to be flannel but they pair nicely with tweed. Other options are khaki/beige chinos and brown cords.
No shoes indoors. Depending on weather and my inclination brown loafers, ranger mocs, 1k boots, or black quarter brogues. In the future brown and black full brogues.

Got a job offer yesterday and the interview is in 2 weeks, it's a pretty good job, and I have no idea what to wear, they said business casual but I have no idea what that idea, or how to even pick a correct color palette, help me out here. I don't want nothing fancy, just a basic outfit with a budget of $500 dollars. I own a couple nice oxford shirts, tan chinos, but I have no shoes, my closet is filled with SLP, boots with heels, and rock star vibes overall, I need to dress like a grown up for this interview and I don't know how.

>> No.15679315

Wear chinos and an oxford. Use $500 to get a decent pair of shoes and a navy sport coat. It might be a little tight but you can manage.
Make sure the sport coat fits perfectly at the shoulders. Sleeves can be easily altered. look up guides on how a sport coat should fit.
For shoes go for a pair of penny loafers in brown. Due to your budget your options will be limited. make sure they fit well and are of decent quality.
If you oxfords are the standard colors (white, blue, pink, white with blue stripes) the above will be fine. With your budget you will be stretched thin to get a jacket and shoes so you might have to sacrifice a bit on quality. I recommend making the shoes a priority over the jacket although you need both. A comfortable pair of shoes is much more important for your health and well-being in the long run. The jacket will not be a long term investment however make sure it fits well, has no pattern or a very simple and restrained one and isn't too flashy or trendy.
In the near future add more trousers, a better jacket, a few shirts, another pair of shoes, etc.

I come from a small, hick town in Missouri. I like this type of clothing but I can’t break the idea that only homosexuals dress like this. Before you freak out consider if your from a White poor town and you see someone dressed like this, who doesn’t have money or is from money then must be considered gay for dressing to well.
Vneck shirt? Gay
Tucked in shirt? Gay
Blazer with tie? Gay
Shorts above the knee? Gay

I had some French foreign exchange students stay with me in the summer in college. I tried to warn them about it’s like here in my hometown they didn’t believe me.
We went to the local Walmart to buy beer (Busch) before swimming in the local river. The kid at the cash register called my buddy a faggot straight to his face because his swimming shorts were above his knee. I had to explain to my buddy what happened, he didn’t understand. He said “but anon, these are very fashionable in France” I said I know bro, but we’re in Missouri and to even try and be fashionable you will be called a fag.
It’s really dumb. I never dressed with ‘fashion’ because I didn’t want to hear that shit from both men and women.
I’m not from money but I have close to 2,000 to spend on preppy clothes. Any idea since where I should go?

if you don’t match your surroundings, then move. find someplace where you can be yourself wth fewer prejudical and narrow minded people. dressing “for yourself” can only be done to it’s greats tho extent when other people don’t care about what yo wear. when dressing yourself, you also need to consider what “signs” your clothes signal and how you may be perceived. good luck bro

>> No.15689529

>>15689512
find clothes in-store or online in thrift shops, on eBay, department store sites, etc. Once you have a mastery over recognizing what clothes are most “prep,” you can browse fast fashion stores and even the stores in OP post to try and catch something on sale. Whether you’re budget conscious or not, it’s best to take it one item at a time so as to make sure all your clothes will go together. Generally, never skimp on footwear and outerwear (and sometimes trousers).

People in these threads are so quick to call out collar gap that they never realize that 90% of the time it's because someone is sitting and their jacket raised up, or they're leaning over or something else that causes the jacket to raise up.
But larping faggots see any single instance of a jacket not sitting on the collar and immediately out themselves as faggots shouting "collar gap!"
