I'm really disappointed that there are no good watches below $5k and even then it's slim pickings until you get to $10k. How come there are no "working class hero" watches that are still respectable and project an image of a tough guy, a bit rough around the edges, but ultimately a decent fellow you can count on when it's needed the most, this archetype is apparently wearing Rolex (while realistically I'm sure he would be wearing something lower). In fact every archetypal image from dandy to frat boy to international man of mystery is covered only by luxury watches, instead of a widely varying gamut of classes and price points. The 5KX is not a LARP. It's just retarded. They took a watch that became an icon because it was a dirt cheap, unbreakable, rugged tool watch for the masses with its own distinct style and the specs to back it up. Real DIVERS 200M, ISO tested and certified. It wasn't a perfect watch or even a great watch but it was all value.
They then take the look of the watch, strip it of multiple features, and then give you no significant upgrades, while jacking the price. It's an asshole move. You literally pay more for less and they took something that was once pure performance and turned it into a fashion shitter wearing its dead skin.

This one time his salary and bonus numbers got leaked, and that stired up some shit that people have been gossiping about ever since.
I mean if the company is cutting people and reducing wages It's a bad look for him to be flaunting his wealth.
Maybe a Panerai is a good compromise. Shows he's a watch guy and cares about what other watch nerds think but doesn't wanna wear a Rolex or Patek or something normies can recognize.

A long time ago in the 60s or 70s, Hindustan Machine Tools in India was given some government watchmaking contracts or something and they licensed some basic movements from Citizen. Citizen flew some Japanese dudes out there to teach them how to make some movements and sold them some machinery.
You have either a redial of an HMT watch or a knockoff Citizen that uses the same movement produced on the same machines but it was made in Pooland. Both are basically the same watch.

>>15628209
The resin one it comes with is hard and cheap.
NATOs add thickness to the watch because it raises the watch off of your wrist and if you bunch up the excess strap length it looks really stupid. Sometimes your watch slips around on a NATO too.
Silicon straps are nice because they look more serious than a NATO while still being sporty, they're very supple and comfortable and resistant to many elements.

word of warning, if you get silicon straps try to avoid the ones that have quickchange spring bars. it sounds cool but it's a trap. silicon is way more flexible than any other strap material and there is a hole for the quickchange tab, so what happens is in a hard impact like if you take a hard fall it can cause the strap to unlatch. regular spring bars are better for silicon. try to get one with texturing on the bottom of the strap, or some kind of ventilation holes running along it, this will keep the strap comfortable during hotter months or if you get really sweaty.

a meme watch just means a watch that is overtly popular for whatever reason. Many good watches are meme watches, like the alpinist, the snowflake, f91w, casioak...

many, many people use a vostok as their daily.
the simpler a movement is the more hardy and durable it is, in a general sense.
And vostok movements are cold war tier.
actually, they dont have quickset date...
so its more of a hassle if you _dont_ use them as your daily.

It's probably the only manufacturer out there selling watches at 70 dollars with 200+ meters water resistance, guaranteed 10 years runtime without service (something basically no watch makers van guarantee), extremely interesting heritage and history, unique technology behind the glass and crown that use the increased water pressure in big depths to survive anything, fun and limitless designs and a fuckton of watch lines that are good.
