A pedestrian opinion from the late 20th century. The lounge suit proportions and shapes the masculine figure in a way that is unrivaled by any fashion and there is plenty of room for self expression in varying the suit such as adjustments to the proportions, choice of different details, and use of different fabrics. It may not be suitable for labor but the lounge suit really is a fine weekday outfit.

There's plenty of expression in the types of shirts, ties, suit style, it's just often so nuanced as to not be immediately noticeable.
Men in polite society were not meant to look like they were foremost "expressing" themselves, men who wear t-shirt decals, sneakers and have tattoos look like children forever
