Posted pic related on the last thread but didn't have time to reply.

>It's on the expensive end of Chinese homages but the san martin stuff is usually pretty high quality. The sw 200 is a real swiss made movement made by the swiss. The pt 5000 is a pretty decent chinese copy of it.
Id say it's probably worth the money with either movement but I would think hard before spending the extra money for the real authentic swiss one.

Will keep in mind, thank you. Both are sold out right now so I have plenty of time to do more research/lurking.

>As >>15568262 says. You get good build quality with nice water resistance, and I'd personally go for the pt5000 as it's just as good + it's not a 'Swiss' watch to begin with.
So save the money and use it on one more watch instead

Keeping in mind as well, thank you.

>On technical matters alone, it’s worth it if it’s an SW200-1. Not if it’s really an SW-200. You should email them and find out.

Asked their CS team and they confirmed it's an SW200-1.

>Now, the PH200M is back. This time, however, one of the new variants has been fully restyled for the manner in which most of us experience the waves: sitting beside them or floating on top of them, rather than diving into their depths. Like the original, it’s got a crosshair dial and a fully-hashed bezel – but these have been coloured an attractive nautical blue and picked out with gold inflections.

>The “DS” in the name stands for the “Double Security” system that Certina uses to keep the glass firmly attached to the case. It’s certified to 200 metres and it also comes with the Powermatic 80 movement. This ingenious Swatch Group creation has a magnet-proof Nivachron balance spring and offers an 80-hour power reserve, allowing the piece to punch well above its price. ($967)

is the powermatic movement any good...? im not familiar with stuff like this. Redpill me

Because the only reason why I'm keeping a watch on my wrist is to tell time? DURRRR

I don't wear any wristband and I don't intend too because they have no function.
So while I have to wear a watch to be able to tell time I like to use the opportunity to have a mechanical watch on my wrist for every other element than timekeeping it brings to the table.

How fucking hard is that to understand?
I'm not even against quartz, I just like mechs.

From the archive:
>There's a lot of confusion and FUD around the Powermatic 80 movements, doesn't help that Swatch group aren't that forthcoming with info on the movements. The escapement in Tissot and Certina Powermatic 80 movements is a synthetic silicon material, and it can be serviced, just good luck finding an independent with a Swatch parts account if you need to replace the escapement. If you take it to a Swatch service replacement they'll just pop in a new movement because it's cheaper. These are 23 jewels, and you can tell if they have the synthetic escapement if they are designated C.07.1xx. There are Powermatic 80 movements with a traditional metal escapement on other Swatch brands like Hamilton and possibly Mido, these are 25 jewels with designation C.07.6xx. These are also serviceable, but none of the Powermatic 80 movements have a ETAChron or similar regulating mechanism, though you can apparently regulate it with a magnet, but good luck finding a watchmaker who's figured that out. I would have less qualms with buying the latter Powermatic 80 movements, since they are essentially a 2824-2 design with an alloy mainspring and a slower beat rate which does help with the wear somewhat. I would still personally go for a traditional ETA movement though, if only for the beat rate, and the knowledge that any independent watchmaker can service it if needed.

With their old serial number scheme you used to be able to see that it numbered about a million per year spread out among all their models unequally. More DJs than anything being their best selling model. But they shifted to the bs randomised serial. It's nice, but I don't give a fuck if I lose it, you know? I'll go out drinking in this watch. The Patek Phillippes, I keep at home. I only break those out on special occasions. Just for little parties and shit like this, I got this one, I got the Movado, I got the B-vvv-lgari, and I got the Vacheron. That one, I bought at the auction. People don't know about Vacheron. You got guys out there, they think Rolex is the thing. They think Rollies are like the nicest watch there is. That's amateur hour. Me, I don't even own a Rolex. Rolex makes you look like an asshole. Every time I see a guy in a Rolex I walk up to him and say, 'You see this? This is a fucking Richard Mille. This right here is worth more than ten of your shitty Rolexes.' Then I laugh at him and walk away. This watch thing is really about taste."

theres near zero downsides to vostoks, cant go wrong with them, though the heavy russian aesthetic is polarizing, you either love it or dislike it. Lots of character, quirky.
rugged mechanical workhorses, extremely moddable with all kinds of aftermarket parts, they provide some of the best value you can get in watches.
shipping from Meranom(the website) takes a long time to an eternity, depends on the cyka blyat mail and where you live. (up to 2 months if its really bad)
acrylic crystal scratches but its not a drawback, its very shatterproof and fine scratches can be removed easily with toothpaste, heavier ones with autosol metal-polish/polywatch.
their rubber/silicone straps are very nice and soft.
lume (glow in the dark) is bad, it is "usable" but cant compare to swiss superluminova or japanese superlume.

Rolex are worth it. They are ultra reliable and accurate and extremely solidly made. If someone wants one expensive watch that will last a lifetime they go Rolex. JLC are also a great buy. You get HH level movements and finishing for a fraction of the price of other brands because they have steel versions. I would say around the $100k area is the limit of fine finishing. Above that price you just pay from more complications and exclusivity.

I understand what you're asking but that also happens with entry luxury brands and common watch brands as well, and it has more to do with the brand itself and how popular it is.
If you're looking for a high quality watch that is worth its price tag and holds its value then start checking the used watch markets and see which brands hold value and which ones don't. Then learn about which brands actually put effort into their movements and quality, and which brands (like Rolex) create artificial scarcity to manipulate the market prices.
But ultimately you're better off just getting what you want and enjoying it.

I'm also considering a GS quartz, I like watches, but higher end mechanicals clash a bit with my utilitarian views, and those GS quartz can endure 50 years of no manteinance and they are accurate. My idea is getting a nice watch that will last a lifetime and something like GS quartz looks not a bad idea, and I don't care about resale value since if I buy something is because I plan to use it and would and would never sell, worst case scenario I would be a homeless that has a nice watch.

Jewels are used where you'd have bearings. Having jewels in there means you have less friction as well as less wear over time. That's pretty important for mechanical watches since it means you lose less charge to friction and your movement is more durable. The more jewels, the less friction.

>> No.15572829

It was a marketing scam. Many decades ago it was advertised that more jewels somehow make the movement better. In reality there is no correlation between the number of jewels and how good the movement is.

also, while >>15572829 is exagerating, there is some truth in what he's saying : there is a threshold for diminishing returns when it comes to jewels. At some point, it was a pretty common tactic for watchmakers to add jewels where they weren't needed just to hike up their prices because "there's sooooo many jewels!!1!". On some parts within the movement, jewel bearings won't make much of a difference but having them anyway was a great way to pretend you're optimizing the movement for durability and precision when it really didn't change much anymore.
>>15572863
100 jewels would be some massive overkill, especially on a watch that only has a date complication.

they are these typically pink things you see in watch movements; though they might not always be pink, its just a colouring.
these are synthetic rubies/sapphires. Rubies and sapphires are the same chemically-corundum. Adding trace elements give them their colour. It is also the same material as sapphire crystal. (the glass).

Jewels are used in conjunction with lubrication to provide a durable contact point with the least friction. In the past watchmakers uses real gemstones, but with the modern technology of lab created corundum, cost is reduced; variables and purity can be controlled.
