Didn't know the price or much else about them but that makes sense. Honestly the old NH35 into a nice overall design is about the best bang-for-buck for folks looking for divers that look the part, or other designs for that matter. As long as quality control is kept in order it's hard to get better value. The islander diver looks pretty clean. I've had fantastic luck with microbrand NH35 based watches to this point as well, so I'm not opposed to it.

I love the look of the 556i/556a. The super minimal industrial design does something to me. Gives me modern day explorer1 vibes whilst being cheaper. Also love the bb41 some similar reason.

the thing is, most watch brands are mechanical focused and they are pivoting to mid range now, prices are rising. Smartwatches are the next quartz watches, so the way forward would be to do what the swiss did in the 70s/80s.

Nobody wants to sink millions in R&D and fight them at the japs at their own game, only to earn like $50 per watch or whatever the profit margin on gshocks are, it is a big gamble. gshocks are virtually indestructible, the lug will give way way before the watch dies. You can literally drive a car over it and it will still work
but the edifice line is pretty durable and far more stylish. Also consider cheap field quartzes like bertucci. Normal poorfag casios are generally good too, they cost like nothing and if they die just buy a new one

if you want mechanical it would be a vostok, these are kino tier bear proof and idiot proof watches made for the russian military. Though with all mechanicals, you should avoid wearing them if you are working with machinery (chainsaws etc) or anything that will constantly give the watch abrupt shocks; as this is not healthy for the tiny physical parts no mater how 'shock proof' they are.

That's not exactly a tool watch (in the sense a watch made for an specific purpose in mind), but a tool that tells the time, that's what a watch is supposed to be.I don't really get purchasing a watch and then don't wearing it because the fear of scratches and minor damages, some people don't wear watches even when sleeping or at home because they fear some knocking against doors or the bed, they have divers, ok if you don't dive but you don't even use it on a damn pool or on random day you are on the beach, like getting a chronograph and not really using its main function.

A scratched watch looks cooler than a shiny one, I remember some anon who had a nice vintage Autavia?, it looked really cool, you see a watch like that and already know that it got some love and saw some action.

You guys forget that a large portion of luxury watch buyers resell it within 10 years at the most. Go look on r/watchexchange (yes reddit is gay but the exchange is a good place to buy and sell). Look how many of the watches are luxury grade. Most of the people spending thousands on a watch do not make the money necessary to do so comfortably. Qhen times and budgets get tight, they look to sell off their impulsive flex purchases. They want the "respect" and "admiration" that comes with those watches bad enough that they spend well beyond their means. To retain high resell value they have to keep the watch in like-new condition. It's sad and fascinating at the same time. Maybe they'll get into a cheaper watch after and realize how much better it is to enjoy and everyday beater and to put wear on a piece you are not concerned with recouping cost on.

I am into my second week with mine, also first auto.
Good quality, bracelet is very jingly, I personally like it. Accuracy for me is to have you understand, I set mine last time at Friday and now it is running about five seconds fast. I think that is good, then again idk what a good range is for an auto. I swim everyday with it on, no problems. Talking about a good 500m of free and butterfly with a few diving to the bottom of the area too so no pussy shit. Bracelet def has its share of scratches, especially at the polished links. Glass is still good, Cyclops did it's job. Lume is lmaowutlume .Bezel is great, loud satisfying sound, sometimes has a bit of backplay but it's fine for timing shit like water heaters swims and idk what else, steaks at the barby I guess. Clasp makes a nice powerful should and holds on for dear life. Nice readability on the dial, no problems in low light conditions even tho there is no lume, if there is some faint light your eyes can tell what time it is because of the applied indences.
Overall 5/7 wud buy gold version for tackiness in a budget.
And for the guy who talks about buying expensive watches and not wearing them, this is the way to go imo of you want a good-looking analog so you don't have to wear digis at work all the time. But you said the Rolex models don't do it for you so w/e.
