>here is the promotional image for your $170,000 HAUTE HOROLOGIE watch, bro

>The watch enables three users to play Texas Hold’em – a 52-card game. Each player has approximately the same chances of winning, as it integrates 32,768 different combinations. The game is operated by pushers on the side of the case. Pressing the Poker watch’s game pushers causes the cathedral gong to chime.
>A pusher at 9 o’clock deals the first hand by winding up a spring that simultaneously spins four concentric discs − one of which made from sapphire − on which lie the cards. Then, dampers cause the discs to stop at random. The dealing of the now-shuffled cards take place in windows at 6 o’clock, 10:30 and 2:30. Angled shutters ensure the cards are invisible to the other players.
>After this first betting round, the pusher at 10 o’clock reveals the ‘flop’ (three cards which appear on the left of the dial). Then, another push-piece at 8 o’clock then reveals the ‘turn’ (one card on the right of the dial). After this, the same push-piece deals out the ‘river’ (also on the right of the dial). Finally, the showdown follows.

>Meanwhile, the 2020 Poker edition’s sapphire crystal caseback provides a second game feature; the oscillating winding rotor serves the purpose of a roulette wheel. Essentially, one or two shaking motions activates the roulette, causing it to turn for a few moments, before an arrow points to one of the 37 numbers on the inner ring. Furthermore, a special key opposite a green emerald set on the caseback sparks a feeling of good luck.

Been waiting like a kid on Christmas, and it finally came! I'm very happy with it. new old stock like I was promised. As soon as I put it on, the 21 year old resin strap started falling apart, but what can you expect?

It's a 1999 Halloween edition. A very rare piece, that I paid way too much for! But since I've been looking for one for years, I was quick to throw my money at anyone who would be willing to sell

For those who had some questions when I ordered it; unfortunately, the strap doesn't light up in the dark, but was very pleased to see that the moon does.

As you can imagine it's hard to get a read on this thing, but it seems that the exact minutes is right between the mouth and the eyes, and the hours is the very top of the ghost.

Sorry for sideways pic

Yeah that's probably status signalling, you're right about that. I just want to have a watch that I can look at and instantly know what I'm dealing with. if you want people to actually want to talk to you, you have to make an effort to condense your posts and not spam a dozen comments about small details that not everyone is even autistic enough to care about (since its not actually part of the watch proper and can be changed at any time)
you can play nice, why be an ass and get ostracized? you dont have to make 20-30 posts like an ADHD sperg you know.

Everyone here largely makes their own decisions about what straps or watches to get and not ask /wt/ for approval for small things. Its part of the fun of watch collecting since everyone has their own tastes and its nice to see what different watches someone else might collect

you got your skx007j. Is this your 1st proper watch?

unidirectional winding watches' rotors move in both directions but only wind in one.
moving the "wrong" direction will merely not wind the watch, thought you may experience increased rotor noise or sometimes a lagging reluctance to turn the wrong way, that is all. Ive not come across nor heard of a rotor that is only *hard-locked* into turning one direction.
besides being less efficient, its not an issue unless you are using watch winders; because unidirectional automatics can wind either way. So it might not match your autowinder and render it useless for its task.

erm no. Snowflake does not use washi paper.
For the snowflake, the texture is created with hand tools on a copper base, which is then transferred to a steel die. The steel die is then used to punch in the texture onto brass plates. The textured brass plates are then nano-coated with silver plating.

What terms or models do I look for to find a watch that doesn't list all the bullshit like 2397 jewels and P O W E R R E S E R V E or anything else like that on the face? because good design is as much about negative space (emptiness) as it is about positive space (filled)

Bauhaus style merely took the "minimal" concept to the extreme and ran with it.

erm, most bauhaus watches are actually proportional, even the extreme ones, thats why they still look good in their style. For example the Lambda has very long hands and a gigantic power reserve indicator to avoid the gaping emptiness that would be present otherwise. It is a conscious and very delicate design decision.

in contrast many fashion minimalist watches like DW look terrible because of poor proportions, there is too much careless space and looks very bad.

I'm not a particular fan of bauhaus (and i dont own any--yet) but to say they are not proportional is not true. Even the tangente >>15508125 has subtle design choices that make it work. The numerals are stretched on purpose and 2x their normal height so you dont get the "lost in siberia" feeling.

pic related is an example of minimalism done badly, the crown is far too small and the dial far too empty while still feeling clumsily executed.

ngl this is the first Nomos I've liked the look of.
I feel like Bauhaus scaled down ruins the feeling of the design. A big part of Bauhaus for me is it's use of negative space which is harder to convey with a smaller size. The most immediate thing about watches are their condensation of complexity into a small space--so there's a fundamental tension here. Too small and it comes off as a dilution of the miniaturization charm of horology; just right and these contrasting design trajectories are synthesized into something which flatteringly balances and showcases this relationship.

Lang&Heyne even make the "sports watch" that Lange&Söhne should have made instead of that Odysseus abomination.

See pic.
It's a 44mm handwound wristwatch with a pocket watch movement with a 3/4 mainplate, and the movement fills the entire 44mm case from edge to edge.
It also has an onion crown and broad leather strap, making it a modern luxury version of a WWII Flieger watch.

>>15509117
Apparently Biden is more of a man of the people because his watch is "only" 6000 dollars and you can get it dirty without feeling as bad. It's all ridiculous, the Seamaster 300m is literally known and marketed as an extremely classy diver so you can wear it with a suit

That was probably to look like a man of the people. I can respect Trump's cheesy gold Pateks more because he has always worn that stuff and it's honest. Bill Clinton's Timex and Obama's quartz shitter are fake. The Cellini is who he really is.
To be fair the Seamaster is probably what Hoe Biden really likes to wear. It's got that boomer-cool aesthetic an out of touch old man would like

Modern presidents don't wear luxury pieces when in office to appear as "one of the people".

Clinton wore a fucking Timex Ironman, Bush wore a quartz Timex shitter, and Obama wore a goddamn fitbit while in office.

Trump hasn't been seen even wearing a watch since the election, where he wore the square Vacheron 1968

Clinton got criticized for the Timex because it was "ugly"

yeh but it's fucking stupid, even hilary clinton was wearing the presidential day-date when she wasn't even fucking president. obama wears a rolex out of office too. Timex are just supposed to be a nod to American workers but it's so paper thin. The Vacheron at least indicates Trump is aware of more brands than just Rolex.

it's not legal to skin a human being in the US because of people like Ed Gein. I read this related to the the current popularity of tattoos. you can't will your "art" to anyone, the mortuary personnel in the US cannot perform a skinning due to the law, whereas in Japan, there are full body tattoo skins that get passed down for generations.
but presumably if there were a market for them, japan or other countries could supply it. surely you have already searched and found nothing due to your post, so I guess there's no demand. even if e.g. japan made them, presumably they couldn't be imported. but if you bought one on a trip and switched your watch to it, it seems highly unlikely customs would notice.
