I love the pure Oyster Perpetual. The fact that it's the least expensive rolex is just a cherry on top of a lovely design, movement, and simplicity.

>>15494264
That's fair, and I'm sure there are a lot of people who purchase the Oyster simply because they won't wait the extra few months of saving to get a DJ or Sub or whatever. But I think the Oyster is a classic and simple design, and I would be very happy with it. Tbh, I like it more than the DJ or Day/date, and more than plenty of their other watch lines, as well.

I have an old one from the from the 80s (my father's) that I'm having serviced right now. I love it and it's probably going to be my daily wearer.

Just got the Longines one on the left back from service. I thought it was a quartz, but to my (and my horologist's) surprise, it's a fucking mechanical wind watch. He dated the movement to sometime in the early-to-mid 70s.

The third watch, the movado with the leather strap, was a gift from my mother to my father, and she purchased it in '95.

The silver metallic movado on the right is the only watch here that's "mine". It was the first watch I liked and I got it for my confirmation about 14 years ago.

>Little is known about the effects of the lunar cycle on the behavior and physiology of humans and animals. The lunar cycle has an impact on human reproduction, in particular fertility, menstruation, and birth rate. Lunar astronomy accurately indicated that the repression of the moon's gravitational influence brings about social tension, disharmony and bizarre results.

>Admittance to hospitals and emergency units because of various causes (cardiovascular and acute coronary events, variceal hemorrhage, diarrhea, urinary retention) correlated with moon phases. In addition, other events associated with human behavior, such as traffic accidents, crimes, and suicides, appeared to be influenced by the lunar cycle. One study even looked at data over a 5-year period from police records in Florida, which showed an increase in cases of homicide and aggravated assault around full moons.

I like to know where the moon is and what it's doing in the sky. You can glean a lot of information about the world that you live in by knowing the position of celestial bodies.

If I know that we're just entering a new moon phase (which will happen tomorrow for August), then I'll know when the tides will be the strongest, where the moon will be in the sky, when the moon will be in the sky, if it's a good night for stargazing, and plenty of other information about the world we live in and our place in the universe.

It makes me feel like I understand a little bit more of our place in the world when, after looking at the time on my watch, and noticing that we're entering a waxing moon, I can look at where the moon will likely be in the sky right now and verify my prediction. And when that prediction is correct, man do I feel like a fucking navigator.

Right now we're in a new moon. The moon is between the sun and earth. This means that the moon is only visible during the day (but just barely, you'll probably never see it), and that we're coming towards Spring tides (large differences between high and low tide) because the tidal forces that the moon and sun exert on the earth are all in alignment. High tide will also occur ~noon and midnight, and low tides ~around 6pm/am (roughly, of course, a few other factors determine tide times, like the rotation of earth). This also means it's the perfect time to go star gazing because there will be no moon in the night sky to brighten it up. And knowing when the tides will be roughly in and out helps me navigate when to go crabbing, or swimming, or explore the intertidal zone for starfish, or when to hold bonfires down by the beach with friends.

Take the luna-pill, anon.

I would love for more people to get interested in the moon. Automatic watches are these tools that we love because of their history and craftsmanship and for how closely tied they are to navigation.

But the moon has been with us for far longer than automatic watches, and has helped us navigate life and the world for thousands of years.

When the comet NEOWISE was in the sky last month, I went out to view it with my gf. We each had a pair of binoculars with us. And while looking at the comet was truly remarkable, perhaps equally as remarkable was looking at the moon through binoculars. Because it's so close you can really see actual detail on its surface, and seeing the moon like that was wonderful.

Also, the brightest objects in the sky that appear around sunset before any other stars are in the sky are actually planets. They're so bright so they show up before all the stars. A good way to check if what you're seeing is a planet or a star (if you don't have an app), is to see if the object is twinkling or not. Stars twinkle, planets do not.

Yet Omega watches have a natural flow to them, in their design. Their cases are not these sqaured of blocks, like rolex.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for the turned lugs but I'd rather have an omega than op and subs are 3x the price of a new grey market seamaster.

So buy omega or buy a 2 tone £12k rolex, its only 3k more to get into 2 tone. Explorer line wrecked with the 39mm, 36mm shit braclets, explorer 2 line same problems. Datejust is dated looking. OP is to basic and if your buying rolex you need the hands. Milgauss is dead, 5k gauss vs omegas 15k standard.

£3k for a seamaster, you get a lot, next step up is 2 tone sub or gmt. Oh and who ever buy a braclets watch without a quick adjust.

>Fresh for the fall is the Altair, which is our first offering from the storied TriStar collection. The watch gets its name from the star, which is most notably a part of the “Summer Triangle”. The Summer Triangle is visible in late autumn, and is a formation that showcases three bright stars— all of which come from separate constellations.
>The Altair is a perfect example of how well retro-styling can blend together with classic looks. The watch itself features a date, day of the week sub-register, and 24-hour sub-register. Its sunburst dial is augmented by Roman numeral markings at the four axes and brilliant spear-shaped hands. It is presented in a vintage-inspired, 39.5mm cushion case, complete with wide lugs and a fully-polished finish. The case is rated at 30m of water resistance, and the watch is powered by the Orient caliber F6B22 movement, which is automatic, hand-winding, and hacking. It is important to note that until now, all TriStar watches were strictly automatic-only..

No. But you can probably get it for cheaper on which case it'd probably be a solid enough watch. People don't complain about victorinox watches. I like the nightvision model but that's about it. Why titanium though?
Keep in mind that generally all low end quartz modules are tiny things that sit inside of the inevitably large empty watch case that they have to fill with a giant ugly cheapo plastic spacer. When the module breaks it's not repaired like a high end quartz movement or mechanical, but ripped out and thrown into the bin and is replaced with one fresh off the ronda/eta assembly lines in Thailand and China.
$500+ bucks for a Chinese made case and a Thai or Chinese made movement parading itself as "Swiss"?

A fabric strap fits much better and is thousandfold more comfortable than a rubber/leather strap. Rubber is the worst, sweat a bit and grime builds up like dick cheese.

Rubber also sucks if you put a lot of wear on the watch. Salt water and mildly aggressive chemicals attack the shit out of rubber straps. Have lost a G-Shock when the rubber finally got brittle and weak enough to just snap while out at sea. Have had other rubber bands to get to the point they weren't far from doing the same until I replaced them with canvas/nylon.

Did I say it was the stock strap? It was an aftermarket rubber, same as I put on a couple other watches before ditching them. I deal with elastomers and chemical compatibility as part of my job. Genuine rubber straps will get brittle eventually if they are exposed to high wear conditions and certain common chemicals. There are of course alternative elastomers that can be used, but a majority of watch straps are a variation of generic SBR.

The Powermatic 80 is a whole family of calibers, not all of them have a synthetic escapement, the Hamiltons have the classic 2824 escapement as far as I can tell, unlike the Tissot and Certina offerings. The H-40 also seems to be based on the 2834-2 instead of the 2824-2. I'd personally never buy it because I'm more of a hi-beat guy, but I don't think serviceability will be that much of a problem in the future, it just needs time, unless Swatch goes full jew on their parts accounts.

Fresh water rinses do help, but they aren't magic. SBR is porous, chemicals and salt water will penetrate the rubber where surface cleaning will not do much of anything. I'm not arguing against rubber if someone loves it, just that it's not the magic bullet a lot of people make it out to be.

prevention..i suppose you can wipe it down more often.

its one reason why the soviets were so fond of these bund straps, there is a layer of protective leather between skin and watch so you are not just sweating into the metal. A nato would work too, but less protection on the edges

most brass case watches now do have a SS caseback, but the edges are not, so they will be still inadvertently get sweat on them.

Add the case to your cart and then add the ''changing spare parts'' to your car
https://meranom.com/en/amphibian-classic/spare-parts/changing-spare-parts.html
You write in your order details what you want switched.

It's still a probability well below one percent of one percent. Just because it's double the chance that a homeless person steals your watch over a non-homeless person doesn't mean that it's something to worry about.

they're all completely interchangeable. The only things that need to be considered for case compatibility is the crown and bezel. The movement are are completely interchangeable, it's the reason vostok does a small seconds hand to their GMTs, to avoid making the movement taller with 4 central hands.

great color of leather for that watch.
the nato style looks kinda strange to a watchguy, but normies would probably never notice.

I'm not crazy about divers, and vostok makes a lot of ugly dials, but this is pretty cool. it's not for me, but I like it for what it is.

great strap on that polerouter.
other 2 are not to my personal taste but the choices you made at least make sense compared to 5-divers-and-3-digital-quartz-type garbage you see here so often.
