Thanks whoever posted this a couple threads back. It's very encouraging. The search box does recognize and give quotes for every movement I own, even the 9983 from the 70's. Well the 8r39 didn't show up but it basically identical to the 8r28 with a more accurately regulated balance.

One thing is fishy though. It quotes $342 for a 6s28 but only $192 for a 6s37 which is a higher end version of the same movement.

>what's the deal with modded/franken soviet shitters?
nothing as long as the buyer is aware, doesnt care about it and the seller is honest (sometimes they only admit when you ask)

the thing is there are dishonest sellers muddying the water with "refurnished" or redialed or frankenwatches and selling them as NOS, **RARE** or whatever. Some people dont care but to those who do, authenticity is everything. They will fuss over the smallest of details, demand that the seller provide a photo of the movement (if its not done already), dig up catalogs from USSR, cross compare with other collectors...

if you really want to buy a frankenwatch i would set the upper limit to $60, maybe $85 if you really like the look.
>dirty and worn out
kek, its called patina. The right kind of beautiful patina + authentic parts = unique piece and is highly desirable for some vintage hunters. Some buyers want as pristine as possible, others love the yellowed and worn out look. "Dirty and worn" becomes "soulful with character", a visual manifestation of the watch's age and a bygone time. Often times the patina gives reminiscence and evokes a memory, like flecks of rain on a windowglass or the colour of morning sun on a leather seat.

>Almost without exception vintage collectors seem to fall into these two camps; NOS collectors who value the pristine, museum showpiece representing what would have initially left the factory, and the Wabi collector who sees beauty in the discoloration, scars, and visible usefulness it provided.

>In traditional Japanese aesthetics, Wabi Sabi (侘寂) is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". In short, the idea of Wabi Sabi is the acceptance and appreciation that everything exists impermanently. People age, watches age, existence and life is fleeting.

>Western culture seems to struggle with impermanence; valuing imperviousness and seeking that which will appear unaffected by time, forever new, indestructible. One sees this in the application of surface hardening techniques, ceramics, and liquid metal in watchmaking even though all of these solutions are imperfect or vulnerable in their own way. Pursuing this ideal requires not only constant effort, but ignores the reality of all things being truly temporary. Applied in the extreme, you’re left being owned by your things, versus owning them.

ya of course there are those people who buy one and keep showing it off.. PATINA! PATINA! LOOK..PATINA.

for me i just see it as giving a old unsold item some love, or wearing it for its last few years. Once it was a watch that was worn and loved, now it sits lonely and gathering dust in a box. NOS examples of vintage watches are far more expensive, and if one likes the style of vintage watches sometimes theres nothing but patinaed examples left, and you just have to find the one that connects with you. Like being at the animal shelter and bringing an old dog home because of the way it looked at you. It doesn't exist. Seiko have a super annoying policy of never including all the features you want in one watch. I can't get my preferred movement with my preferred aesthetic pic related.
If I could get a 6s movement in pic related that would be my perfect seiko chrono. But instead it has a nasty modular movement making the watch overly thick.

>HATING ON 24HR SUBDIALS
You wake up, groggy and half asleep, rubbing your dry eyes as blurred vision come into focus. You lay there for a split second as last night's escapades come back to you. Slits of starlight, coming from the Norberma System passes through the thick domed acrylic glass and spreads out like an oriental fan on the bedspread. The quiet hssss of the ship's ventilation system, the tick of the clock in the quietness. Your room looks as familiar as ever, grey and uniform as all crew quarters are, except for the presence of another pair of shoes and more islands of discarded clothing...

You roll over and gently nudge your dozing lover. His eyes fluttered open, big expressive asian doe eyes. His delicate chin and soft dewy skin. Grinning cheekily at you, the boy barely looked 18. You pause for a moment to savour the moment. The new cadets all have piqued your interest, but he is really something. Desire stirred again in your loins..and somewhere inside a murmur of love tugs on your heartstrings..could it be? Has Cupid struck you with an arrow?

"Sensei, what time is it?" he asked
You took a quick glance at your watch.
"8.45"
"AM or PM?" his eyes grew wider as he sat up.
"PM...my Seiko chronograph™ has a 24 hour subdial."
"Oh." He sank back into the folds of the blanket. "I thought I missed my shift.."
"It doesn't matter," you said as arousal hits you harder. "Again?"
He shot you an embarrassed look as his face reddened.
"You..you fucked me 3 times last night..it still hurts..." He bit his lips...
"I don't care, I want more."
You leaned forward like an animal and pinned him down as he weakly protested with a muffled giggle, your hands groping underneath you to feel between his smooth bubble cheeks.

I don't think it did, since the model this re-edition portraits is the first speedmaster, from 1957. That said, there is so much overlap design that maybe a moonwatch with broad arrows went to space, if not the moon. That's way beyond my knowledge tho, maybe check the in depth article on speedies by hodinkee.

"made in" labels are deceiving
look at for example what the swiss considered "swiss made" up till 2017, and the milquetoast amendment they made to it since then
spoiler: "swiss made" is fucking weakass bullshit
"made in germany" is a meaningless statement with no legal ramifications
"made in japan" means you can have a watch 100% made in:
>malaysia
>brazil
>china
and still under nip law it can say "made in japan" or "japan made"
how?
japanese law in this regards any product as "made in jap" if the following criteria are met:
>the company that fabricates item is a japanese company
>the factory making the items is owned by said jap company
>the managing staff of factory are japanese people
>the final QC is undertaken by superior nipponese hands, 10000000 times folded
the native drone workers, effectively "meat robots" do not as human according to japanese law and are counted as merely tools or extensions of the managing staff
hence why ALL cheap seiko's that say "made in japan" aren't really, as in they're not made on the japanese islands
the only seiko watches that are known for sure, because people have seen it happen, to be 10000% made in japan by superior japanese machine folded one bajillion times are Grand Seiko, from both GS factories, and a handful of other high cost models. The obvious ones. Beccause they cost $3000 not >$500.

the humble and dependable but lowly skx007 is either "made in malaysia" or "made in japan" (but not actually in japan).

there are fake F91Ws out there.
who knows why, but there are. so, presumably everything has been faked.

>> No.15494538

>>15494135
Everything that is popular in the third world has fake potential.
Any watch guy could slap some pair of hands on a franken movement and some dial he had laying around and sell it for a quick buck on the local market.
>>15494483
True. Casio even implemented that authenticity test of their modules because there were so many fakes. Just press all buttons for a few moments and the dial shows the casio logo.

>> No.15494554

>>15494538
The fakes all pass the casio test now. The actual way to check is to push the button combo that turns on every part of the screen, the authentic ones have some bits that the fakes don't.

>> No.15494567

>>15494554
Yep, also read about that. The fakers got over the casio test. I think it was some small part, like an additional little bar on a character, that the fake ones simply can't have. And some dot.

>> No.15495200

>>15494062
No, that would be bad and in need of servicing even for a 50 year old watch. For worn vintage movements over 200 is fine, but for something as new as the even the oldest 7s26s it should be over 250.

Keep what you have, that is a good core collection even if it is 3 black dial sports watches, add other brands, JLC, Zenith, vintage, 18k gold dress watch or whatever interests you.

Or sell all and get a 10-12k watch, like a sub bluesy BUT if your as broke as you say you are idk if watches are were you should put your money.

If I were you, sell the Rolexs, keep the speedy and wear the shit out of it. Use the money from the sales to start a business and try and make it, if you don't you have the speedy and at least you took your shot.

Being broke with 2 Rolexs is in bad taste, i spent 3 years with a CW while I started up. You should have 4x your collections value in the bank liquid.
