I talked about it extensively a few threads ago, but some kind of midrange ($2-5k) GMT sports/pilot watch. Haven't decided what yet, might even go for a Breitling ana-digi.

Shorter term I keep thinking about picking up a Mako USA or Kamasu and then deciding that I shouldn't blow the $300 on it.

in the under $10k range there are 2 watches that i personally would strongly consider if i were to get another watch: grand seiko sbgj237 or the tudor black bay gmt

my only second time zone watch at the moment is a sinn 356 utc which i would recommend to anyone looking for a simple and reliable gmt, but it sounds like you want something of a higher calibre!

Do you also have substantially more expensive stuff and worry that you won't end up wearing the Orient because of it? That's happened to me a bunch of times, I impulse buy something cheap that the internet says is "really nice for the money" and then realize that it still feels shitty compared to the nicer stuff I already have. At least the Orient ticks the right boxes with hand wind, sapphire, etc. and doesn't really duplicate anything I already own though.

>>15452029
I wish Sinn still made that model, I'm in the market for a GMT as mentioned above and really like the look of the 356 UTC but it seems like it hasn't been produced in a few years.

I had a Glycine. The bezel was stiff as fuck and got caught on the crown before it even turned two months old. I couldn't wind the watch or set the time. Then when I wanted to get a refund they refused my request so I had to get it done through Paypal, and they wouldn't pay for shipping.

Sort of the same issue, I keep thinking that it's a better option to put the money to higher end watches that I want, then I keep going back to the Kamasu and try to convince myself that it'll be a good daily beater.

That's actually not bad but I'm looking for something higher end. I'm a student pilot and will be buying this watch to celebrate when I get my commercial license so I want something "special," and while it's kind of a superficial choice I want it to be something from a brand with at least some mainstream prestige. (Rolex is out of reach, but Omega, Breitling, Tudor, maybe Sinn are all options.)

There's also some temptation to just get a Speedmaster because I've always wanted one, but GMT is a really useful complication for me so giving it up would be kind of a hard call.

>RIGHT NOW post the watch you're saving up for/thinking of buying in the medium-term future
pic reltated. But I'm unsure if I can pull it off as a wristlet and I already got two divers (but two Vostoks, so I'd like to have a different styled option).
What I kinda wanna do is a
>one of each
shitter collection. What I got so far:
>diver
2 identical Vostoks! (so maybe, another, more modern and/or western style would sitll fit that collection)
>chrono
Strela. So I'm set there, every other option is a ST19 anyways
>dress watch
Some golden (or rather, gold plated, if even that) old as fuck Junghans from my grandpa (or maybe even great grandpa, no one really knows who bought that one) and a blueish-black 80's cushion case thing from my dad, but it has day-date, so it's a bit on the casual side, but who cares. Maybe something with small seconds would fit in the collection
>digital
G-shock G 100, looking at a ProTrek right now, don't really need anything more. Some hipster vintage one could be nice, but not really needed. And if so, a Osama or Royale is so cheap, I needn't think about it, should I need it
>Flieger
That's still missing from my collection.
>Slide rule
Also missing. Really hard to find a cheap one that's not the ultra-busy citizen diner plate
>grande complication
Yeah, no.

Ive heard a couple of stories regarding those and (((battery change cost)))

from hondinkee comments
>Omega states on their website that battery life is 24 months...After surveying a number of forums, it would seem the general consensus is that a battery change can only be done at an actual Omega Service Center (evidently the watchmaker at one's local Omega AD isn't qualified), a partial service is required every battery change, and it can cost in the low $100+ range on up. YMMV, so anybody actually considering this watch should probably ask Omega directly before buying, in order to avoid unpleasant surprises down the road.

from WUS
>Sent my X-33 back to Omega for a battery change..quoted for £145 on email this morning, not the £95 quoted over the phone before I sent it.

maybe a 3rd party can do it for cheaper--not sure

I think there are none. Exodus watch makes no sense tho. The egg timer from 2033 is actually closer to reality.
>rotate ring, set red timer hand, it ticks down, visual representation of time bar
>exodus: rotate ring, no visible feedback on the nixie tube, alarm goes off some time later.

Such a bezel would require some extra gears and a small clockspring to power the timer. That would be an overengineered solution, a simple diving bezel is already up for that task.

You can clean with saddle soap, most of it looks like natural leather darkening and it's normal, saddle soap with mostly just remove dirt.
>Either way is there something also I should do like an oil to moisturize or protect it?
I would recommend obenauf's LP, if you really want to go crazy you can get mustang paste (horse oil) but obenaufs is probably a better product to actually use. You can also use sno seal. Note that applying any leather protectant will darken the leather by a few shades, so it may be best to buy a strap that's a shade lighter than you want so it will be about right when you hit it with a leather product.

no experience with specifically kangaroo leather but I used to be quite into leather boots

leather is an organic material, it needs oils to nourish it, just like during when it was part of a living animal. If not it will start to dry out and crack.

oils = / = polish
you can either use $8/jar mink oil or a specialised (((leather conditioner$$$))) or if you dont care -that much- use some normal hand lotion. Just a tiny bit will go a long way, and if you are using mink oil remember to cap it on tightly as like all oils it can go rancid.

yes it will darken over the years/after an oiling. Ya its called a patina. Its not avoidable (some actually like it for that aged look), just use a tiny bit of product for a small item like a watch strap. Also look into getting a deployant clasp to reduce the stress and increase the life of your 2 piece strap.

also, the more you oil leather the softer and more supple it will get. It can be a good thing (like for boots) or a bad thing (like for leather bags with structure) depending on how you see it.
I will also advise against wearing a leather strap for days on end especially in the summer as it will soak up all your sweat and get wrinkly and gross on the underside. Having a rotation of straps is good, just taking off in the night is not enough time for the leather to properly dry out.

>Why are you people so naive?
I'm not naive, im full aware about omegas jewing, but I don't have the evidence of the battery system on that new x-33, I can only assume the system is similar if not the same, until I see the kind of battery and system the new models use I can only speculate, that old model, yes, no problem with buying batteries online and changing them myself, new model?, i don't know,I guess it will be the same.

A big part of my disliking about the moonwatch speedy pro is basically the omega jewing, they are selling old tech at luxury price because muh heritage and moon, so at leasst with the x-33 what they are selling is mostly tech,no heritage BS, but still some astronaut memes,bt still, they created a watch with the idea on mind, not like the classic history about getting a bunch of chronos, test them and the one who randomly survived became the iconic moonwatch, which later got fucked up and was replaced by a bulova.

You can just use any rag, no need for a fancy cloth.
Same with saddle soap if you want to use it, there should be some tutorials online. You really only need it to clean dirty leather goods. A watch strap probably won't get that dirty.
Brushes are really for boots, not needed for other leather goods.
I personally don't like mink oil. It's had to apply evenly so it can make the leather look splotchy and some claim it will damage leather once it soaks in a later goes rancid. Some kind of beeswax based oil suspension like obenaufs is the way to go.

saddle soap is for cleaning your leather, use a cloth. I dont think its really that needed for straps, and dont do it too much as it can damage leather (soap is akaline, even a mild one like saddle soap)
no need for brushes lol. You are dealing with a strap, not a big boot or a horse saddle

Get the blue but change the strap to either a bracelet or a dark brown leather one. Also make sure you're getting the 41mm and not the 38mm. I've always thought the Navitimer was ruined by its overly busy dial but this simplification and size down from the dinner plate proportions is honestly the best thing Breitling has made in a while. Not huge on the ETA movement but you're getting it for half price of the regular chronograph and Breitling's in house movements have always been a little wonky, a friend of mine has taken his BreitlingChronometer in for servicing twice in the past year and it's racked him up a hefty price tag so perhaps ETA won't be so bad.

Just got my senpai to ship out my jewelry that I haven't worn in a while (I moved across the country a few years back and didn't bring this stuff with me). Included in the box of jewelry were my watches (and a couple of vintage watches of their own that they don't wear).

They're all quartz, and they need some repairs, but I love them.

From left to right:
>Some gold Longines watch from the 80s. I can't seem to pinpoint the exact model, but I have seen very similar ones.

>Gold Gucci watch from the 80s with a real lizard leather strap. Despite being a fashion brand watch, I actually like this one quite a lot.

>Gold Movado Museum from the 90s. Classic look, faux-lizard leather strap on this one.

>Stainless steel Movado. This is actually the only watch of the lot that is "mine". It's the first watch I ever liked and asked for it many years ago as a gift for my confirmation. Not sure what drew me to it, but I just liked it. Learning more about watches the past few months made me wish I had asked for an automatic, but I don't regret my choice back then.

>inb4 all quartz
I'm aware. But they still bring me joy, especially since they all have some familial history involved with them.

>to most normies paying $3k for a watch would be astronomical and unimaginable
Except everyone knows that Rolex is 10k+ dude everyone has Instagram and sees luxury watches every day. Maybe if you were in some third world shithole but even there everyone who matters has Rolex+ watches.

idk where you are at but most zoomers and millenials dont even really look at watches
everyone has their apple watch or DW/MVMT shitter (shudder)
only rich boomers wear rolex and watchfags are mostly hardcore seiko fans here, with the occasional orient
otherwise its an (oversized) gshock if they are wearing a watch, literally the dinnerplate on asian twink wrist fashion meme

>Except everyone knows that Rolex is 10k+ dude everyone has Instagram and sees luxury watches every day.

It honestly amazes me how little perspective people have or the lack of awareness of people outside of their circle. ALMOST NO ONE SEES LUXURY WATCHES EVERY DAY. Do you understand how niche of a topic this is? If you ask someone to name a luxury watch brand, you'd be correct in assuming most people would say Rolex as their go-to brand. But they don't know the actual price of them. However, if you ask that same person to name another luxury brand, they would have no clue. They would likely name a mall shitter like Michael Kors. They would not name Omega or Seiko, that would literally never happen. And if they did, then you weren't speaking to an average person.

The average person in IG does not have watch inspo on their explore page, lmfao.

Ask a woman to see her phone incel. Doesn't matter that they don't know the price, what matters is that you're supposed to take roids and have fake teeth and a Rollie like the dozens of dudes they have on IG or you might as well not exist.

Not really

desu i´ve never seen a luxury watch until i started my current job in aviation.

I see both, crew and passengers, every now and then with something like a rolex (probably fake) or breits in case of some captains.

Is not that common to be honest.
