Hi /wtg/, I don't wear a watch but I would like to. I have a couple of conditions:
> I have very small wrists so I need a smaller dial (34mm is probably the upper limit)
> Leather strap
> No preference on electric/mechanical movement
> Streamlined/minimal style, no extra dials on the face
> coloured face, I don't really like either black or white
> yellow gold chassis, not rose or silver

I have been looking at a build-your-own mechanical watch kit from a company called Rotate for some time. I think the quality would be pretty average compared to what you could buy for the same price from a professional, and also I hate the rose gold chassis. Can you recommend anything, or even just brands that make the sort of style I want?

>> No.15408870

>>15408869
>34mm
Not a whole lot that's modern and cheap (I'm guessing you're not going to spend more than 100~200$), as even women's watches are now in the 34~36mm range.

Vintage slav watches, a.e Pobeda, Poljot (de luxe line) and some Raketa watches (2209 Raketa movements are slim and small) and Timex Marlin handwound reissue come to mind but do post your actual budget and wrist size.

>> No.15408871

>>15408870
Wrist size is 6 1/4". I don't mind spending as much as $500 if it's on a watch that I absolutely love and would wear all the time.

I wear business casual all the time so I'd rather a dressier watch than something chunky, as long as it's not too fragile as I'd be wearing it every day.

Certainly more of the vintage watches in the newfag guide appealed to me than the contemporary designs but I'd be concerned about buying a fake/refurb since I don't know what I'm doing.

If you're concerned about vintages you might as well post it here, probably at least a few /wt/ oldfags left besides me.

Though if your budget is up to 500$ that helps a lot as you can get a 34mm Seiko presage, automatic, excellent finish for the price along with unique dial color/textures in some and good reliability overall. Plenty of Seiko Dolce models that are 34~35mm you can also search for.

There's a few Tissot and Rado models that are also in the 34~35mm range but you might as well

I'm still finding it hard to find anything I like. I guess I'm fairly picky with what I want. Is it worth making my own? It seems to be just picking a movement, picking a chassis that fits that movement, picking a strap, then assembling it. Is it that simple? Then I guess I have no idea how to pick movements or any of the components really, and that I don't have the tools. All this feels very complicated.

Not the Anon you're responding to, but that's just how some Soviet springbars look. I'm pretty confident that isn't damage you're looking at. I have several watches like this, and they all have a single small ding in the ends on the springbars which I always assumed had something to do with how the springbars are assembled. Vostok springbars from the same period have weird grooves in them too in around the same spot. Pic related.

I need your help, fellas.
So I took out my Tisell after a while out of the box, wound it, set the time and it has been all ok.
A day later I wanted to wind it a bit through the crown (automatic, pushdown crown), then all of a sudden the crown got really stiff. I tried the opposing direction which is normally very light, but after a few turns, it got stiff as well. Obviously Im not moving it any further, but what could be the cause? The watch is about 1,5y/o. Still goes, keeps time, hasnt been opened ever.

Should I send it back right away?

the term shitter is often used semi-jokingly or as a term of affection here

the price of a watch isnt directly tied to how nice it looks anyway, there are many expensive watches that look like shit and arent worth the money. There are definitely nice pieces you can get for under $1000 or even $500, although obviously you cant expect the same as a $250,000 bovet.

Considering buying a baby-g square with radio + solar to swap into my black standard baby-g square case, it would have a nice almost entirely black out look but with a positive display. Only issue is I'm paying $120 + the $65 for my current watch just to get a slightly smaller 5610 with a slightly cleaner face.

It seems pretty good, much better than a standard Amphibia.
The bracelet is a step up too, decent solid steel links that are polished in the centre and brushed on the outside with a milled clasp. It still uses split pins but they work well enough.
It's a good alternative to a lower end Seiko 5 imho.

Grand Seiko is a aesthetically superior to both of my suggestions. But I’d worry that Stacy brainlets will interpret these as “japanese shitters”. Good point. A reason for me to get a luxury watch (I’m usually a SARB guy) is that while I’m comfortable bragging on line I’m to humble to perform the showing off that is usually part of the mating ritual at least in bars and clubs. The choice of flight and explorer might evidence this to some degree. I want something that does the talking for me. I guess royal oak would really be that although beyond my intended range. Thanks for your input guys, I’m slightly tipsy and will head to bed now.

OK, stop right there. It's not gonna work. Don't waste your money on a watch to impress women. The kind of chick that works on wants a certain kind of guy, and you ain't it, and if a Royal Oak is something you'd have to save up for then you can't afford that kind of chick either. Buy a watch to impress yourself, maybe to impress colleagues or employers if you're in a world where that matters, but don't waste your time and money doing it to impress women, especially not vapid club sluts.

You really wanna spend a bunch of money to make yourself more attractive, use it on something that actually makes YOU more confident and cool as a person, like getting a pilot's license or a year with a personal trainer or some shit.

It's possible, but extremely unlikely, you gotta know what you're doing, and you're competing with loads of other people. For cheap watches, you're not likely to get much back after you're expenses (though you won't lose much either). With expensive watches, you probably won't get them in the first place, and if you fuck anything up you're losing everything (and when starting watch repair you will fuck up a lot).
