I just sampled this for the first time and it smells so much to me like Oud Maximus (which I own). I feel like an idiot because there are so many different notes. Is it because I'm halfway drunk?

On a side note, I was memed into Ensar Oud's hype bullshit. I feel like all he does is toss a bunch of high quality ingredients into a tub and mix them around. The few perfumes of his that I have sampled (and seriously paid up for those samples) don't really smell like cohesive perfumes.

I only occasionally lurk these threads, do people ever do trades in here? I accidentally got Eau Sauvage Parfum when I really wanted Eau Sauvage and now it's just sitting on my dresser practically unused (<20 sprays). Alternatively, any recs what to do with a nice frag you don't want? It's a tester bottle so the resale value is pretty low.

Chad, who is on his third bottle of Sauvage (edt, except the second one, which was edp because he doesn't know the difference - and doesn't care) is the guy who always smells nice. The incel who has a $5k niche 'collection' and wears oud frags to work is 'that cologne guy' who gets avoided whenever possible.

ensar and areej are in the same boat for me in that they have the high quality natural ingredients but aren't very talented as perfumers
for me, bortnikoff is above them because he can actually blend and has some sense of harmony in his note choice
I've sampled most of his current lineup besides sayat nova, looking at buying oud sinharaja next
It has the chocolatey oud base of oud monarch but it's pleasant rich floral at the heart
also has the best longevity of any natural predominant I've tried thus far

I have it, love it, and wear it a lot, but it’s one of the least interesting TFPB to me. Aside from his citrusy/summer fragrances it’s pretty much as safe as can be. It’s linear, doesn’t project much and doesn’t last forever. I guess it’s just a love or hate thing. I live near a woodland and it reminds me of that. It’s just a dusty, wet wood smell. Like a damp church pew. I think it gets hyped because it’s an accessible Oud sold by a big name. I love it, but relative to other PB scents it’s not that special.

It’s one of my favourite fragrances. It doesn’t last, it doesn’t project and compared to the original 60s formula it’s completely different but I still adore it. It’s one I have purely for my own enjoyment. Like buying a nice bottle of whisky. It’s for enjoyment and appreciation.

Which houses do you think have the best quality/batch control?

Creed are notorious for being terrible but I’m wondering who is the most consistent. I know that back in the day Versace was legendary for his quality control on his garments, I assume he was the same with fragrances, although that’s obviously not possible now. While I agree its probably better suited to cool weather is very enjoyable and wearable in the heat as well, and it helps it project.

Probably a safe bet to avoid sampling anything you wouldnt be willing to pay for a bottle of haha. However, its a masterpiece. It took me 2 samplings to really appreciate - but I love it more everytime I wear it. I have 30 full bottles and really all I’m interested in now is sampling to try and learn. Sometimes there might be a few things that I want to buy a full bottle of but even then I’m getting in to decants as well so with this many fragrances there’s little reason to buy big bottles.

i stood languishly at the urinal with a migraine creeping slowly. my eyes held shut tightly. "what a terrible week.", i thought. suddenly a wave of calm fell over me and the pain in my ears subsided. i felt good. content even for once. as i finished i watched the urine bounce off the toilet puck. "heh, urinal cake", i said softly to myself. "anon...", a voice said off the wall. i turned. nobody. "anon..." "who's there!", i shouted. deep in the heart of every man there is the the aching knowledge of something knowing he exists. in the recess of every moment of solitude, in the cove of his mind where he finds a quiet solace, there is something that knows. "i know you've not forgotten me, anon", said kouros, it's profile obscured beneath the soap dispenser, it's shape stamped into the darkness. "w-what are you doing here?", i ask. "how did you get here?" "i've always been here. before you've been, i've lived a thousand years. when there had been nothing left, i'd endured. i am the stone of time.", kouros said quietly. "what do you want with me? why me?", i said. "douse", said kouros with a slight growl. i sprayed my neck. "i've lived, but i've nothing left. when there is a void in the heart of needs, you learn to breathe meaning into existence", kouros whispered, now standing on my shoulder. "there is story to be told, and i feel the terror in your mind, a wildness so unhinged that with my words i hope to tame.", said kouros. and so kouros went to tell his story. in that lonely truckstop restroom it told me it's tale of misfortune, of fate, of war. it told me that it is far from it's place of birth, but that this misfortune is it's gift of strength, and that with every missed opportunity or bad judgement it wroughts another step in the right direction, and that sometimes you want to do wrong in a world of rights. but it became lost in the wavelength, and now it needs me. "i need you", said kouros. "yes", i said.

I've tested Ichnusa pretty extensively, here are my thoughts. I'll compare it to Philosykos as I own a bottle and it's my favorite fig by far.
From many reviews I got the impression that Ichnusa is more realistic, green, crushed fig leaves kind of scent, and Philosykos is more creamy, rounded, and casual. Well, to my nose it's completely the opposite way.
Philosykos is crushed fig leaves and branches, very green and woody, with a slight sweetness.
Ichnusa smells like you are sitting in shade of a fig tree protecting you from burning sun on a hot day. Also very natural but not really crushed greenery. It's also much sweeter, which I'm not a fan of. Some people mentioned that it reminds them of sunscreen and yeah, in the drydown I get some sunscreen vibes, not in a bad way though.
Ichnusa projects stronger and lasts for longer on me. However, I still prefer Philosykos because of the scent, and, of course, I don't think Ichnusa is worth the price.
Overall it sits in a weird spot - natural, but too sweet for me. Not going to lie, I probably overhyped myself with this one. I'll enjoy my 5ml decant, and that will probably be it.

Rose stuff but I'm just saying that I've just been trying them recently. Really though everyone on fragrantica has to cope and keep saying "BUT ITS MASCULINE" on anything with a lot of rose in it.
>>15416356
I think its only special as far as designers go but not compared to niches. I liked it though, it reminded me of Eros in terms of the vibe it gives off except with some maturity. Like its wearable by a dude in his mid 20s unlike Eros. And I can't wear Eros cause I keep thinking of all the middle aged pajeets I've smelled it on. I dunno if i can pull it off but I'm buying a sample.

Also got me on a rose kick. I tried Cartier Declaration d'Un Soir which I thought was really feminine at the beginning and the fragrantica comments coping sort of prove it. The dry down is a nice mix of rose, pepper and sandalwood but still too feminine leaning for me. I like it but can't pull it off.

Also Black Aoud. The first Montale I've liked. It reminds me of my grandma named Rose working on the rose bushes in her front yard when I was 5. I hate oud but in this it tames the feminine side of the rose. I'm really enjoying sniffing this. I could see myself wearing this but would I just be buying it cause it reminds me of that memory? I dunno.

same bro. Do I just buy a full bottle of Encre Noire a L'Extreme as my incense frag or do I spend an extra $200 on Heeley Cardinal or Hermetica Sancti or something idk. I guess its not really the same since EN Extreme isn't a full on incense.

literally tried it today. I tried Cartier Declaration d'Un Soir which I thought was really feminine at the beginning and the fragrantica comments coping sort of prove it. The dry down is a nice mix of rose, pepper and sandalwood but still too feminine leaning for me. I like it but can't pull it off. Maybe you won't think its as feminine as i did but i dont think its a safe blind buy unless you like girly roses.

I'm looking for a rich, warm spicy frag for my winter rotation since hopefully I'll be leaving the house more by then.
I already have London which is nice but doesn't fit my description fully.
I guess the closest thing would be the strong pepper of BlackPepper mixed in with something like Snicebomb for a rounded scent profile, rather than a blast of pepper and light patchouli dankness.

If you have an issue, I do as well. I think pissing 10 times a day is mostly due to convenience than actual need. Waking up in the middle of the night usually just means that you are drinking too much right before sleep. When I was maybe 11 or 12 I think I had some kind of bladder infection that meant I had to piss every half hour, got exemption in class to just go when I needed to because there was this music performance and all through it I kept having to go back and forth to the toilet like 5 or 6 times.
Nowadays my bladder is better, still on the small side I guess because I do urinate frequently but then again I drink a lot to keep hydrated. Kind of a pavlovian response to my mum telling me off for not drinking my drink at lunch in primary school and going home on the bus with headaches every day in the summer.

Blind bought this at TJ Maxx because it was $16 and I don’t have too many summer scents. I hate how much I like it. It’s got the best sea salt note I’ve smelled in a designer fragrance and it’s simplicity is just really really nice. All I get is amber and salt but I keep spraying it on just to smell the opening. It’s the 2019 edition.

Projection is about volatility. Projection and lasting power are generally opposite characteristics (though some molecules are inherently easier to perceive, giving a boost to both, or transforming as time wears on).

Attars do not, unlike perfumes, contain alcohol or fixatives, which serve to carry molecules away from the skin as they "dry".

I'm fairly certain I got all of this right, though someone else should correct me if I got anything wrong.
