Had a Casio since I was 6 and already appreciated watches back then. When I was 16 I had a Seiko that made me appreciate watches even more, even though it was a quartz. But what really got me into liking watches even more was seeing a Heuer Monaco one day.

Thinking about it, I should purchase it one day.

Sold it because I wanted no date watches only. Sometimes I think about it, comfy on rubber. I'd just buy a g shock square now for a beater. If you are okay with hit and miss qc go for it, that said I could have lived with mines. Now I'm thinking about buying a zenith el primero so there goes the no date plan.

I hate this nasty little jew. Everything about “Theo & Harris” gives me the fucking creeps, from this shyster’s salesman smile to the retarded neo-twee aesthetic to the stupid soulless VC name generated completely at random. Looking back, from Hodinkee on down the entire watch media’s recent vintage craze was a massive pump and dump scheme that pushed watches nobody gave a shit about (UG Polerouter, Rolex Datejust, Rolex Explorer II to name the most egregious, plus dozens of “heritage brands” nobody remembered) by sole virtue of their age. This prick spearheaded all of that. Only 5 years ago you could get into a steel Datejust for under $2600 USD if you looked hard enough. Unthinkable today thanks to Retard & Faggot over here. The one good thing about online shopping is the Direct to Consumer business model, and there are hundreds of successful online businesses that sell good products at low cost because they handle their own distribution. Amongst all of that, there this fucker sits, proudly and smugly being a MIDDLEMAN and an OBSTRUCTION. Never buy a watch from somebody who bought it from somebody else to sell to you. He buys them off eBay just like you would, and then turns around and sells them to you at 25% markup. Fuck Christian Zeron, fuck Benjamin Clymer, fuck shitty “vintage” watches that were forgotten for a reason, and fuck you if you bought into the hype.

but the watch that pulled me properly into the hobby is the seagull 1963. Love how much character it has.

>Peering through the backseat window, finally he saw the door creak open. Out shuffled his wife, who appeared red faced and satisfied, a LumiBrite glow followed her to the drivers seat.

>Archie, sitting patiently and fiddling with his divers bezel, timed it at 42minutes and 23 seconds. A new record, he beamed to himself.

>As she opened the door, the scent of Floris flooded the vehicle. Archie pursed his lips to say something, but saw in his peripheral a figure emerge at the front doorway.

>Standing tall and trim was a bronzed shirtless horologist. Hair slicked back, wetter than his wife was an hour ago. His fingers, peppered with signet rings, raised up slowly with his hand.

Making youtube videos talking about watches with his family and his more or less girlfriend, he's not faceless anymore, makes him relatable and trustworthy, so he can bump his prices, the same thing with hodinkee.
Is true that companies like hodinkee popularized anything "vintage" and shilling streched out datejusts as a value proposition, but the biggest factor is that the watch thing blew up, the market is simply much bigger. I see people using the grail watch term in both cases that you mention.
Some people simply use it when they talk about the watch that they really want out of their price range, others use it to mention a super rare hard to get watch, you might even be able to afford them, but is impossible to find.
Summarizing, the grail watch is pretty much the watch that you want the most.

Recommend me a watch, lads.

>budget
$10-20k
Maybe more for something really special

>watch type
I already have a heavy-duty dive watch, so something between sporty and dressy.

>movement
I used to be a mechanical snob, but have since discovered nice quartz.
If you suggest mechanical, there has to be something special about the movement.
i.e. no mass-produced industrial finishes like Rolex, Omega, Breitling, ... UNLESS the rest of the watch is appealing enough.

>Desired features, e.g. water resistance, day/date, 2nd time zone
Nothing really.
Complications don't do much for me, but I'm open to anything.

> Preferred strap option, e.g. leather, nylon, bracelet
More options = better.
I hate natos but otherwise would like third-party strap options to remain open.

>First, hand tools were used to carve a copper electrode. This was then transferred to a mold made of a steel alloy to fabricate a stamping die. With a force of 200 metric tons, this die was used to stamp a brass plate that would form the base for the dial.

>So far, so good but now came the tough part. How could they make this base as white as fresh snow? Simply painting it white was not the answer, as paint would fill in the irregularities and smooth out the surface. Reducing the amount of paint, on the other hand, would prevent it from becoming pure white. After a long process of experimentation, trial and error, the team decided to study a method using silver plating. Because silver has the highest visible light reflection rate of all metals and because the plating is in pure silver, the team thought that its appearance could be as white as mountain snow, even on a textured surface. By testing different plating solutions, by varying the level of current and by changing the immersion time for the silver plating process, the team sought to identify the perfect thickness of the silver, to tolerances of one micron, that would achieve the desired purity of white without losing the quality of the texture of the dial. Eventually, they created one prototype with which they were pleased. It was perhaps the first pure white dial that did not use anything with a white color in its manufacture and it had one property above all others that endeared it to the Grand Seiko team; as its total area, because of its uneven surface, was larger than that of a flat dial, it received and reflected more light, from all directions. This gives the dial the sense of being even whiter than white and adds to the “sparkle of quality” that has always been central to the Grand Seiko style.

the actual value of a watch is not just its monetary value. By that logic RMs would be worshipped as the pinnacle of horology. As digitals go at least they're relatively clean looking, not totally covered in irrelevant advertising text like Casios are. I hadn't seen these before but I'm kind of interested because of the prominent second time zone display, I fly planes and that's a really useful feature not found in many affordable watches.

Bruh you spent 2000-3000 on this? What the fuck is wrong with you. You could have copped another homage for a fraction of the price.

I think I agree but none of them make watches I'd want to own, even if money weren't an object. If I had to choose I guess it'd be a basic steel Royal Oak, it's the only one of the whole bunch that at all fits my lifestyle and the clothes I wear.

Those pieces are manufactured by Indian master artisans utilizing unique techniques and designs long lost to the West. "Mumbai specials" have more soul and characters than 99% of the run-of-the-mill industrial eta shitters and I believe that they'll become highly collectible in the future.

I spent 1.5k on it. With box and papers.
I am curious though, have any homages to this with a chronometer certified automatic movement?
I could have copped a homage, I've done that before but it just doesn't do it for me.
I had a homage 62mas and it just felt really off. So I sold it and bought an actual 62mas and have no regrets.

The hked have:

Better logo
Better hands
Better sub dials
Better QC
Better service from Ed

Your judgment is lacking but if you must have the original, seagull has an aliexpress store, which is the only place I could recommend buying from, all other Chinese sellers lack any qc and service, that's were the horror stores come from, pay up or get the hked.

Hi op

Women watch

150-250 euros
dress
automatic
any
leather
small wrist size ( the girl is 45 kilos)
She likes colorful background red/bleu but not a flashy watch

Thanks if you can help me i don't know much about watch and looks like there is not a lot of choice for girls ( can go a bit higher if it worth it )

Why would you buy a girl an auto? Women do not care about the mechanics, and it's going to sit on a shelf if it doesn't go with her outfit that week.
