Deliciously medicinal, I'm enjoying these kinds of frags very much. It's light and spicy and medicinal. It kept reminding me of Breath of God but a warmer and comforting version of it. Or a toned down Burning Barbershop. These types of frags are weird cause I enjoy them a lot but I don't actually want to wear them :/.

Based. My favourite incense frag so far I reckon. It was just right for me, had a good amount of gothic in there without much else intervening. While I found Avignon to lack darkness, Zagorsk to have mediocre performance and be very airy and Fahrenheit Absolute to just be boring. And I guess Passage D'Enfers musk gets in the way too much. Still, I don't know if i would buy a bottle of this or Avignon as my incense frag. Give me suggestions as well. Tomorrow I'll try Dzongkha, Chergui and Humus.

I think nobody here complains about the longevity of Aventus exept batch whores, we complain because it is a medicre smelling fragrance just like the other hype fragrances, it just smelles like what Pineapple peal looks like.

As much as I meme on Dylan Blue for being a generic blue axe scent, there's something nice about it that keeps me coming back to my sample and savoring it after a year or so.

Cocobello by Heeley. Absolutely beautiful coconut, with a subtle woody base and nice floral top. Not massively long lasting, but far from bad performance. This is the kind of summer fragrance I've been looking for.

Unfortunately I haven't tried any of those, in the department stores here I never see Ferrari or Ferragamo. I'll be sure to check it out on my next flight or something (feels like they would be in tax free stores).

Looking at their notes, Radiant Bergamot looks like it could be similar though Colonia doesn't have nutmeg for example. Just from reading the notes it almost seems like Radiant Bergamot is somewhere between Colonia and Colonia Intensa.
The Ferragamo is strange, I can't really see how it could be close to Colonia.

What is /frag/'s opinion on reflection man? I just got my sample today, smells good, I can see the similarity to Le Male, but this seems to be more floral. I personally get a sort of leathery note through the mid and drydown which is strange, what could that be?

Look on youtube or fragrantica for reviews and notes, I would recommend Gents Scents for frag reviews, stay away from Jeremy, that man is clinically insane.

Me personally, I get bored of fragrances pretty quick, so I have only a couple bottles, and buy a bunch of decants off of eBay. I find it a lot more enjoyable and more cost effective that way.

Try and get samples of:

Acqua di Parma Colonia Club
Ferrari Bright Neroli
Dior Eau Sauvage
Carven L'eau Intense
Hermès Terre d'Hermes

Then you have a variety of cheap or cheap-ish fresh stuff to try that all excel in different ways.
I find darker / heavier scents a bit harder to blind recommend, but some good ones to get you started are Lalique Encre Noir, Dior Fahrenheit, and Tom Ford Ombre Leather (and Tom Ford Tuscan Leather if you can get a good price for a sample)

I love the regular Colonia a lot but I'm not too big on Essenza for some reason. I find the regular Colonia muskier and less soapy (but still soapy of course), I just get a feeling that it's fit for light clothing in scorching hot weather more than Essenza (which I feel is a bit more dressed up).
I absolutely love Eau Sauvage but yes I agree, with Colonia or Colonia Essenza in a collection a bottle of Eau Sauvage is unfortunately a bit redundant, and Colonia performs waay better for me.

Yeah uhh Dzongkha to me is a mix of public bathroom and indian. Sort of smells like Chai Tea. My least favourite out of this sample batch.

The dude sent this without me asking for it, I'm guessing cause its sort of similar to Dzongkha but its really nice. Its a lot woodier then Dzongkha, while Dzongkha is heavy on spices. Dzongkha smells like an indian spice market. Humus makes me picture a wooden cabin with lots of leather furniture. I really get the smell of bare wood, like i'm in a timber store. Very nice but not my style. Gonna look more into Michele Bianchi stuff.

My experience with soapy so far has always been so mediocre but this is beautifully elegant and classy. Maybe cause its got warmth to it? I like it, but I've only smelled the vintage, which almost everyone seems to think is at least marginally better than the current release. (Luckily, vintage Zino is still easy and cheap to buy.) Heritage is really remarkably similar, although I think I prefer Zino. It certainly smells like it's from the previous generation, but that only dulls its appeal by association; it is still beautiful to me. They say it was a favorite of Johnny Depp's for some time, if that gives you an idea.

Zino is (I think) the sort of scent that magnifies sexiness in a sexual situation but need not necessarily be considered sexy in every context. I find it similar to Shalimar in that respect. (Disclaimer: I have not H A D S E X while wearing Zino or with anyone who was wearing Zino. This opinion is based purely on my imagination.) Should I ever H A V E S E X (not likely), Zino will be on my shortlist of fragrances to consider for the encounter, along with Jicky, the aforementioned Shalimar, and maybe Declaration D'Un Soir.

I've been on an incense spree recently. Cardinal Heeley is my favourite so far and the heaviest, darkest of them all. It is straight incense. Zagorsk is airy and boring desu. Its cold and wet though. Passage D'Enfer is too musky to be a bold incense frag. Avignon is nice but not strong enough on the incense I think. Its quite a bit woodsy. Fahrenheit Absolute is very incensy but very boring to my nose. Interlude Man is beautiful but incense isn't its focus.

I don't think I'd say that, although there are definitely those who would disagree. Shalimar in particular was considered a scent for "loose women" when it came out, but that was a long time ago, and nowadays people think of it as a scent for classy ladies, so you can see how complicated this gets. Frankly, though, I find the idea of any scent's being sexy ridiculous without reference to context. Wearing a nicely-tailored suit with Zino gives a very different impression than layering Zino over bare, muscular flesh would. I hope you understand what I'm getting at.

I'll give you a friendly warning to temper your expectations. Norne is what I would consider overhyped. That's not to say it's bad. Ohohoho, it's DEFINITELY not bad. It's one of the best I've smelled. BUT it's still just a fragrance. The clouds will not open. You will not find the meaning of life. It's not even as satisfying as a really great film, say. If you stress out about getting it, you're likely to be disappointed when you actually smell it. It's, uh, like a zen thing, I guess: the real Norne is the Norne that one does not strive after.

It’s funny how I knew the note but couldn’t put my finger on what it was and then when I went outside and smelled the mint in my garden I realised. I think it's less about your orientation and more about your presentation. It's harder for Burt Reynolds to pull off Shalimar than it is for David Bowie. Jicky has pretty well been considered unisex since it was released, so I don't know what's giving you trouble there. Shalimar is just Old Spice with more oomph. Generally, though, I subscribe to the old idea that "what is good for the goose is good for the gander," or in this case, "what is sexy on the goose is sexy on the gander." Why do good perfumes with garbage performance get rated highly? I recently got a sample of Fort & Manle's Fatih Sultan Mehmed, and it's a beautiful smell. The projection is a joke, though.
