They want to show off I think. It stands out much more on the steel watches than the gold models in person which is another reason why I think the gold ones are more effay.
I once had a 16750 which didn't have that engraving yet and while it did look better I was annoyed that it also didn't have the "proper" GMT movement. Swapped it with my dad in exchange for his old Alpina 7 series (car, not watch).

It's because the focal length of camera phones is very short and they cause a fisheye effect with close objects.

Here you see Sean Connery making a Submariner look tiny, and I'm sure he had a good sized wrist but mainly it's due to being shot on a long focal length movie camera, which flattens the perspective.

The solution is use the digital zoom on your phone, although you will lose detail quickly. The real solution is use a real camera with a telephoto lens.

Sort of.
You can find a bunch of ebay listings for Ruhla that are very, very obviously not Ruhla. it's not so much counterfeits/replicas as it is taking generic sweatshop designs and slapping the Ruhla name over it.
They're really easy to spot though. Anything with a white background picture, anything that looks too modern, anything with a metal bracelet will obviously be fake.
A lot of it is intended for the polish market where Ruhla is still a name on some people's minds who may not know the brand died, or the south-east asian market that uses ebay as a global marketplace instead of shitty local alternatives, and in Vietnam absolutly know about Ruhla since a bunch of DDR factory workers were viet.
Easy way to spot them is checking the "antimagnetic" and "electronically timed" markings all of them had, and whether they say "made in GDR" or "made in Germany". Ruhla stopped all activities before the reunification so they should not refer to "Germany".

the first tool watch is the first wristwatch since it being on your hand made it more of a tool than pocketwatches. wristwatches were, in the beginning, considered effeminate and had to be sold to men on the issue of their functionality. as for who invented the first wristwatch, most say patek philippe although some say that the first wristwatch as we really know it was made by breguet. so that is the first tool watch.
the first sport watch is iirc the jlc reverso, which could be reversed to protect it during sports.

I've been with my wife for 10 years now. We met in high school, and I got her pregnant. She is and always has been a lazy person and a shit cook. I wouldn't even mind eating shit food if she at least made it on time. But she rarely did. We'd get into screaming arguments constantly about how lazy and worthless she was. I felt like an asshole for it, but goddamn she was a real piece of work. The only reason I dealt with all this was for the kids, and also because the sex is great. But one night, I got fed up. Not only did she get drunk, neglect the kids, and made me top Ramen for dinner, but she decided to give me attitude too. She was being real fucking bitchy. So I told my grandparents to keep an eye on the kids and told my wife we were going to go out and have dinner together. I drove maybe 3 blocks to a quiet area (we live in Oregon, it's not hard to find a quiet field) and I got out of the car, went around like I was going to open her door for her and let her out, and I just beat the shit out of her while she was still seatbelted. After a few punches, I asked her if she wanted to go back to her parents. She started screaming and yelling and said yes, so I beat the shit out of her again. Then I asked her what she wanted to do. She finally got smart and said she wanted to go home. So I took her home and dared her to start trouble. I even handed her my cellphone and dialed her mom's number on the drive home. I made her talk to her mom, while daring her to fucking say something. Before that incident, I had never laid a hand on her. But I had always threatened it. I told her "one of these days, if you don't straighten up, I'm going to lay hands on you." All my meals have been on time, and she just recently tried to make a meatloaf. It was mediocre, but I was just thrilled that she tried. Do with this information what you will.

akshually....

The 556 for example, hugely popular, doesnt actually have any memetech and is just regular SS, and the rest of the lineup that DOES have hardened cases, are only surface hardened, so something like this might happen.
Rowlkek was dented by an AD, probably by some vice, bezel remover or otherwise, the owner spazzing out.
Now Damasko, they harden their cases through and through and use their memetech on their lower end watches as well, that still cost a grand, mind.
The only downside is they are disgustingly german and thus have really boring dials for the most part.

>I dropped by my AD Saturday while doing business in Kansas City. First, I asked to speak with the manager. When he came over, I told him what happened and his reply was, “I can’t see anything; your watch is all scratched up”. Wow, that floored me. I’ve had my Sub since 1985 and it’s in pretty good condition. I left it for the watchmaker to look at, after the manager told me one would not be in until Monday.

>I got a call this afternoon from the watchmaker who told me that he didn’t see anything that didn’t look like normal wear. I’m confused. I ask him if he is able to see the two scratches/dents, one on each side of the crown. He does, but tells me that they don’t have any tools that would make the marks I’m speaking about. Now I’m really confused. I tell him that they weren’t there when I gave them the watch to replace the click spring. Again he insists they do not have any Rolex tools (and they only use Rolex tools on Rolex watches) that would have made those marks. He then tells me they can buff/polish them out for $150. This made me pretty upset. I told him I’ll be by this week to pick up my watch and asked him to email me our discussion regarding the tools and how they don’t have anything that could have caused the marks in question. I really wasn’t expecting this response. This AD is well established on the Country Club Plaza and has always been very pleasant to work with in the past.

>What are my options? Is there anyone at Rolex I can contact and inquire if these scratches/dents could have been caused by a Rolex tool? What should I do? I don’t believe I am being unreasonable; I just want my situation to be made right.

Animation = Children

That is a western stigma, it is just another form of story telling, which is pretty much what every bit of media you every consummed is trying to do. If you had ever been you would know that nation is the most advanced in the world. Toyko shits on any other capital city in the world. Oh and NY is a dump.

grand seikos used to lose half their value as soon as you walked out of the store with them. now it's a little better they lose maybe 30% of their value. demand has clearly gone up
they probably don't clone grand seikos because the amount of titanium polishing is psychotic and pretty expensive, so they would have to sell it for around the same price as other really high quality clones ie $1000 at which point someone could just buy the real thing for 1000 more
those rolex fakes sell because they are a couple hundred for a watch that's similar to the real thing or 1000 for a watch that's nearly identical and still a fifth or tenth or twentieth of the price

That's it. I'm going to buy a Seiko SKX, leave it with its box and papers in my safe for 50 years. And after 50 years... I'll still be fucking poor cause it's a Seiko and not a Rolex.
