If you are wearing a watch because you need to know the time readily and often, and you choose a specific watch for its specific functions, that watch is being used for a tool purpose. The very second that you go out of that even slightly and you want it in a specific color, or you choose 1 of 2 or more watches because you prefer it, it becomes fashion. Your G-Shock does not have to have blue highlights but they make one with blue highlights, and people will buy it, even though it costs slightly more than the exact same watch without blue highlights, because they like that color more. And then it becomes an expressive item showing personal taste.... fashion.

Watches are tools.

Filegers, divers, field and dress watches were all watches created to serve a specific purpose. And just like those watches, gshocks were literally invented because there was a lack of durable digital watches for sports and the ourdoors. Gshock was not made just because they could, it was made for a real function and had to meet a set of criteria for durability (the 5 Gs).

The fact that you dont like how they look does not matter. You should read about how and why they were created. Talk abour 'cancer' when you dont even bother to educate yourself. You are low effort and lowly educated. There are plenty of watches I dont like personally but I can appreciate what they seek to achieve and the engineering behind them.

the 3 Gs, my bad.

>The origin story of the G-Shock begins in 1981, when Casio’s head of watch design, engineer Kikuo Ibe, wanted to make a durable watch that wouldn’t break even if dropped. (This was what happened when he accidentally dropped a pocket watch gifted to him by his father, thus breaking it.)

>Ibe and his team of three engineers had three design criteria — called the triple ten: It had to be able to withstand a 10 meter drop and 10 atmospheres of water pressure, and it had to have a battery life of ten years.

>It would take over two years of drop-testing 200 prototypes before “Team Tough” came up with a hollow watch case structure that supported the core module — a quartz mechanism floating in a urethane foam cradle.

>This became the first G-Shock, the DW-5000C.

The solar panel doesn't matter too much as long as you're buying a positive display. Yes, you will lose maybe 10% clarity over the competing non-solar/bluetooth model, but it's not a big deal. If you really want the clarity back without bluetooth, you can always hydromod, that makes them pretty much equal. The bluetooth models barely benefit from hydromods by comparison.

It's only a major issue with negative displays, personally I can't even use old style negative solars because the sweet spot is so small. They're not so much dimmer as they are plagued by internal reflections that reduce acceptable viewing angles. A regular LCD will have clear digits in most positions, a dual glass display will have some angles where the digits blur. It's listed on cheapnatostraps as an "adjustable single pass strap", though it should be called an RAF strap which is the correct name of single pass nylon straps. I recently got myself one of these. It's a bit odd, but good for a single-pass strap -- it dresses my subclone quite a bit up somehow. In particular I like using the extra loop to tuck the dangling extra strap down.

>> No.15376574

Can't you make any NATO a "single pass strap" by cutting one of the loops off and heat sealing the end?

>> No.15376585

>>15376570
... also it's cool how there's exactly one point where the strap is stitched (or glued, I suppose), and it's not even against the skin, so no chance of getting scratched up if you're sensitive. (I am, CNS zulu straps always scratch me.) It's not even a load-bearing part of the strap, so the ways it's going to fail you are related to either the fabric tearing, or the main buckle giving up.

the seals and crystal came from Esslinger. Didnt get a new crown, just the gasket. I think the right crystal for both watches is Tropic 11, but when I tried the GS ones the sidewall cracked when the bezel went on.

Best way I know to put the bezel on is find a plastic lid or bottle of the same diameter as the bezel, then press down evenly from above. You can sand and polish the crystals easily to change their size if it's too tight.

You can test the waterproofness by taking the dial/movement out of the case and then sealing it up and submerging it. Or even better, you can make a DIY pressure chamber with a nalgene bottle, bike tire valve, and air pump. I'm planning on doing that soon.

There are also a number of forum posts you can find that all say basically the same thing; that he blames the customer for any shit QC he lets slip.

Okay, fuck that, after doing a bit of googling he sounds like a dick, I'll just buy a stowa.

not a big fan of that, I actually use my dive watches for diving (not all the time though ofc but still...) and I'm always worried this will fuck up the rating. Just like a car windshield often never really seals.

>pay 500$ for a quartz watch
>just pay a bit more to get a sapphire

The amount of cope from söiko fans is incredible.

Get it fitted, sealed like they would a diving watch and pressure test it.

But it's just not worth it. It would be retarded to have to do this BS in a 500$ watch. Other brands have sapphire in cheaper models, but not seiko. They know that this watch will sell out on nostalgia alone.

Buy what you like, never listen to this forum. Full of stuck up, boring retards. They miss on so many watches due to quartz snobbery.

I really want this watch and it’s actually the perfect tool watch for my work (analog + timing bezel AND a digital stopwatch) but I’m 99% certain I can’t pull off the size, even with a real reason for wearing it.
Sad.

>you can make a DIY pressure chamber with a nalgene bottle, bike tire valve, and air pump. I'm planning on doing that soon.
How?
The air volume that would go into the watch is so small, you’d need a real précis pressure gauge and pressure supply.
Sure, that’s doable, but I doubt a nalgene and a bike pump would do the job. But I’m curious, because I’d like to test my watches too, but I can’t figure out a way to do it.

But what even is the purpose of the second layer of fabric, besides adding thickness to the whole shebang?
