FYI: telnyashkas are a traditional garment, they are not cut like a modern shirt. The neck hole very wide and identical on both sides, you cannot put it on backwards. The arm holes are unusually high and the length is weirdly long. It will not look like you're wearing just any old striped shirt.
The other thing to keep in mind is that they are actual military surplus meant for young men in peak physical condition. The cut and fit is extremely athletic and you will not be able to pull it off unless you're above 5'10 and in great shape.
If you still want to get one (I love them), make sure to order one size up as it will shrink a full size the very first time you wash it.

This is military surplus for the Russian Airborne, Marines and Navy. I'm not referring to a 20 something street kid living off seeds and kvass.
I've been to Russia, it's not bad at all. Even Ukraine makes parts of Russia look wealthy. Go somewhere actually poor, Anon. I recommend Nepal, rural India or Myanmar.
