The most reasonable explanation as to why they go under so much surgery is that their beauty standards are way way way above the average Korean, but why is that the case in the first place? How can a country be so homogeneously dedicated to looking nothing like themselves?

Capitalism and modern media in general fucking them up. The high standards also seem to be an asian thing. They're already often facing pressure to meet ridiculously high expectations when it comes to academics and career. High standards for appearance and pressure to look a certain way seem like a logical addition.
Being culturally collectivist (although this is changing) means that Koreans don't want to stand out too much, you want to be more attractive than others but not in a way that's too different. Add to this a society where plastic surgery is increasingly normalized and affordable and you end up with a country full of women with the exact same vaguely pretty face.

Kpop and Korean idols don't help either. Imagine if every single popular musician and every person you saw on tv and in movies were bogged in exactly the same way. The same features on pretty much everyone in almost every piece of media.
Would probably fuck you up, both in the beauty standards you apply to other people and in your own satisfaction with your looks. And then imagine you could fairly easily fix it with just a bit of saving up, and you'd look just like the celebrities everyone loves.

Of course the western world has specific standards for what features are considered attractive as well, but there's a way bigger range for it and 'unusually beautiful' faces are applauded rather than shunned. Consider pic related: the 'before' face is interesting and unique. The 'after' pic shows exactly the same plastic Korean face we've seen a thousand times. There's nothing special about it besides how obviously fake it looks. The jaw she had before was eye-catching but not ugly, and the before pic might even be called more attractive than the after pic in the western world.

It's a weird thing with gooks. The better looking they are seemingly the more likely they are to destroy their natural features.

Its a bit deeper. They're trying to replicate the Western aesthetic despite not having the blood or the traits. Hapas with European blood typically outclass a lot of the domestic population in terms of aesthetics.

It's exacerbated because South Korea and Japan are vassal states of the US, both were conquered after WWII and had their constitutions, economy and culture completely paved over by American corporations. Japan and South Korea are both still occupied by US military bases, Japan having like over a 100+ of them.

The media does project something entirely different compared to reality and it does fuck with their minds. In part I do think this is somewhat intentional. There's masonic shit that often guts pushed through animes and mangas. In there's a noticeably pattern in the industries there. An "Aryanization" if you will, but very subtle.

Exactly. The jawbone surgery maybe baffles me the most because a lot of these women have stunning jaws that they remove in favor of the jawlet look where their face seems too big for their head.
That's also the one thing that I wonder about in regards to the theory of them just wanting to look more western. The eyelid surgery, skin whitening and nosejobs do point to that, but the V shape face that's popular doesn't really add up.

In anime and manga, foreigners are often portrayed with exaggerated noses and general ugliness. Most asian men seem to prefer asian women as well, not western ones. So I think that's not the entire answer; the standards pushed in their media are kind of a westernized but still distinctly asian look.
