New decants arrived today. I've decided to test Guerlain Bois d'Armenie and Guerlain Homme EDP.

Bois d'Armenie - soft, warm fragrance. Pretty sweet and balsamic. I expected it to be WAY harsher. Sits close to skin, projection is actually pathetic for this kind of scent, especially so for the price. The smell is quite good and it lasts for pretty long, I'll give it that, but what's the point if you can barely notice it? I'd rather get LADDM if I'm being honest. Have 5ml to go through, will test it more, especially in cold weather, but I'm not expecting much at this point. Thqh I'm pretty mad about this because the smell is so pleasant.

Homme EDP - not as fresh as one would expect given the notes (maybe EDT is the "fresh" version?). I get a lot of vetiver and sweet mint. It's a pleasant scent, best suited for chill summer evenings imo. Would also make for a good warm weather dumb reach if you're growing tired of citrus freshies. Can recommend. Also want to test Homme L'eau Boisee now.

Which fragrances smell most intensely, viscerally satisfying to you guys? I don't want to hear what's popular. I don't want to hear what women like. I don't want to hear what gets you compliments. I don't want to hear what smells masculine. I don't want to hear what's superbly blended. I don't want to hear what has good ingredients. I don't want to hear what's "interesting" or what stands out from the crowd. I want to hear what makes you fucking NUT when you smell it, plain and simple, if you've ever even had the pleasure of smelling such a scent. For me, it's pic related.

The gold one is my decant of TF Oud Mineralé which shouldn't really count as a bottle but the MDCI travel atomisers are just too nice to miss out. I'm largely indifferent to PdM, most of their line is largely unoriginal, overpriced and undeservingly hyped up but of the few good ones they have I think they're worth it. Herod is still probably their best effort and Percival I like because while it has zero originality it is nearly every 'blue' fresh designer rolled up into a single bottle with all of their longevity issues fixed. One bottle of Percival removes the need 5-6 different but similar blue designers with likeable individual aspects but serious flaws.

Although I do appreciate the irony of saying that then including it in a rotation alongside BdC.

I felt it was more like tobacco with sweetened up myrrh/frankincense incense smoke. But that's a crowded genre where Herod doesn't really stand out above most of the alternatives. I moved on from it and sold it for the same reasons ages ago because there's better things like that I'd reach for over Herod. That said, would still say it's PdM's best offering that isn't imitating something else.

Your old pal reviewanon/ScentScavenger here. Last time I was here I talked about night flyer but that was apparently old news. I’ve got new news boys. Slumberhouse store open right now online. USA and Canada anons you have about 12 hours to buy before that shit is bought up. I relapsed. I’m posting here to hold myself accountable. I fucking relapsed and bought, sova, kiste, and this new “fjerne”. No notes for fjerne in typically schizo josh fashion except “goodbye” over and over. 540 dollars down the drain but this is a very very rare opportunity. The store opens 1-2 times a year. Worst case you can flip most of them for profit anytime. I don’t plan on buying anything more this was just a long term hold to enjoy and maybe sell later. I still love frags and love you all. I check in every now and then but things have slowed down some. Makes sense though Covid has shut down coompliment opportunities. I will be back to report fjerne because this is setting the fragcomm ablaze with speculation. You guys will be the first to know what it is. I may revive my channel some just to get those three reviews off. I don’t anticipate anymore purchases, just couldn’t miss these and felt it in my soul that I had to buy them.

A patchouli note in BdA is exactly like in Le Labo’s Patchouli 24 which is from the same perfumer Annick Menardo. Because of that, I found BdA redundant for my Guerlain collection. It is good though. I also heard that bottle is a nightmare, the juice evaporates quickly through that rubber tit.

i've seen sellers with multiple sealed ones of the same 80s fragrance. the one i see most is a lot of vintage minis. my hypothesis is a lot of these sellers worked as sales associates at department stores or something over the decades and just stole handfuls of samples/minis and sometimes full bottles

Yeah, its not like its old stock that doesn't shift in stores getting sold on to discounters or anything.
I mean you can get generic cheapies like Paco PH, CK Escape, ADG at a far better deal than retail on perfumeclick in the UK because that's more than likely what has happened.
Half my collection comes from there, all legit, no issues in longevity/scent or whatever else people frequently complain about on basenotes.

Good thing I stayed away, seems like I'd be allergic to it.

From "deadidol" on basenotes regarding Fjerne:

To me, it smells dry and melancholic — wheat-like, earthy, and tastefully understated. If there are recognizable groupings, I'd say that it sits closest to Lanz or Sibet in that it's basically a resinous, summertime amber. It maintains some of the familiar rustic tropes and references of the line, but it seems more controlled and less raucous than something like Sova or Rume. If you're familiar with some of Giacobetti's musky-wheaty numbers (L'Ete en Douce, En Passant, Tilleul), it has a similar laid-back summery feel. It doesn't scream off the skin like some of his others, but it's quite present. So, think smooth, dry woods with a kind of wheaty-honey effect that's woven through it.

Actually, I live in a shithole where only the elderly wear the same three fragrances and you can stand out by wearing almost anything, but that was still what I got from Aventus. I'm open to the possibility that I'm a "noselet" as well as the outside chance that I was sent a fake sample, although Surrender to Chance has a good reputation. Then again, so does Creed, minus the reports of batch variation, which could also be responsible. Then again, maybe Aventus really is an overhyped and forgettable monster, the Star Wars of fragrance. It's kind of hard to say.
