thanks for the heads up on the pattern, wont waste my money on it.

do collars make much of a difference in terms of viable uses?

>> No.15350496

>>15350484
Extreme cutaways look odd with small tie knots and long collars in general can look outdated. Some can have contrasting stitching, which is more casual, but it varies according to each piece and personal taste. Styling-wise, for casual use, these are my main concerns. Quality-wise, look for collars and cuffs that have an interlining on them, they are a lot comfier and may help towards the shirt lasting longer.
Really, comfort-wise they are as good as a tshirt.

interlining?

>> No.15350583

>>15350575
Like a suit, a cheap shirt will have fused collar and cuffs. It means that they are made out of 2 pieces of cloth (sometimes 3) glued together in order to give it shape. Some pieces have a third piece of cloth sewn between the 2 surfaces that makes it hold its shape while maintaining its flexibility. It is worse in jackets, because there the fused part will be in contact with your body all the time and it is not breatheable at all, but it is still nice to have a good shirt with non-fused cuffs and collars.
I only have 1 shirt that has them like this, though. They are quite hard to find on RTW.

where the FUCK do I buy good linen shirts.

Proper cloth / other M2M really neglect linen. They have so few options compared to other fabrics. RTW options I've found usually only offer slim fit, have weird sizing, or the colours/patterns are after thoughts.

I found some niche italian m2m offerings, but the price points are hard to justify (like 200 euro starting).

Isto.pt, a rather decent shirt going for 70. The collars and cuff are interlined, runs a bit wide (as it should) but the buttons are cheap corozo ones.
>slim fit linen
What the hell? Linen needs to be roomy because it doesn’t stretch at all. If it is slim, you probably wouldn’t be able to wear it with the button colar on comfortably.

we borrowed 550bn going into this, then proceeded to kneecap our economy by shutting down all non-essential businesses. the effect of this has been to bankrupt countless small to medium businesses while large corporations that can adapt to the huge bump in overhead rake in profits their competitors are legally prohibited from challenging. before this we were filing paperwork for a 25k business loan to buy a fishing vessel, with several grand in the bank. if that paperwork had gone through before lockdown hit we would now be bankrupt, and depending on the work situation we might well be anyway before the years over.

right now the government is increasing business taxes quietly behind the scenes to try and make up for the massive expenditures it created for itself by paying everyone to be unemployed, and theres rumours of a coming 40% minimum income tax. in other words i will be losing half of my wages to pay for cunts to take a 4 month long paid holiday (we didnt qualify for the grant due to government date fuckery, by the way) for the foreseeable future. furthermore, what businesses survive this will be severely hurt by the prolonged period of 0 income and potentially degraded assets. during all of this bullshit that we were made to endure to "save our NHS" the conservatives refused to even control the borders let alone close them, in spite of the obvious concerns given we were all in lockdown to control the spread of a virus. but it gets worse still.

to add insult to injury, the "black lives matter" protests that have conveniently sprang up in our country in the last month have resulted in a great deal of destruction of our historic monuments, and the "conservative" governments response to this has been to tell them that theyre wrong and theyre being very naughty, while doing nothing to actually protect these statues save for one statue of churchill they chose to board up. historic figures from the left and the right are being pulled from building names, and books are being tossed out of universities. meanwhile, the scottish authorities saw fit to restrict all counter protesters to these fucking savages pretending to be british but allow the people who throw statues into rivers free reign. a recent ugov poll showed that apparently more non-white people in britain consider the country to be racist than not. there was also a recent conservative party policy leak which stated that their reaction to labours policy of mass migration which quite literally turned entire sections of cities from majority white to majority non-white over the course of 10 years (i know, i saw it with my own eyes growing up), is to simply cultivate a new generation of conservative politicians to cater to our newly christened countrymen who have made it quite clear they despise everything that we are and were, and wish to have us under their boot. were due a demographic census by next year, many are projecting we will be a majority non-white nation by that point and i strongly suspect we are right.

given my preference for liberty and also men, even if an outright ethnonationalist comes to power (which is clearly all but impossible here given established interests) there will be no future for us here. we see no option left but to simply pack up and leave. we plan on saving for a yacht which we can take with us to australia over the coming years ill take spiders and snakes over these fucking rodents any day.

Australia is literally becoming a colony of China. It has no future either. Maybe worse than the US and Europe because once the coming goes rough, a bit portion of the migrants will go back to where they came from, whereas the chinks will definitely stay.
Lets hope that that rise in identity does happen. I am not that optimistic either, to be honest, as all attempts thus far have focused solely on reactionary politics, which is inherently flawed because it either tries to emulate a historical condition that is absolutely unapplicable for our age or, even worse and more commonly, creates a simulation of what the past was in order to try and apply it in the future.

For about 100 you can get a mtm shirt that is sooo much better, so I wouldnt feel good recommending that shirt for 70. I have a pretty good shirt that costed me 70 euros, but it was made in europe, had good quality linen and the material is more lax when it comes with fittings. I like jackets that fit and are snug on me but not slim fit. Slim fit is just weird. It's really like a childs fit. Or like getting a regular jacket 2 sizes down. I'm a 44" chest and a regular jacket of that size fits just right on it. Now if I get a 44" slim fit, it's just like a 40" or even less and the arms are like thin tubes so the they're like tight gloves around my arms. Just awful. Probably the worse is under the arms how tight they are. I suppose a real "sim fit" jacket would tailor to your body shape but with more material around the arms but off the rack slim fit they just get a regular jacket and take it in all over so I think it only works if you're really skinny.

One of the things that trigger me the most on jackets and shirts is them having a low armhole. The tighter they are, the better mobility you have, in my experience. It also just looks ugly. But yeah, RTW fits are awful in general, just join the bespoke gang.

I haven't ruined any piece of clothing to the point where I can't wear it but here's my short, sort of boring story. It was pretty chilly August day and I decided to go fishing to the closest river which wasn't too far off, it was only like a twenty minute walk. Anyway, I wore my Barbour quilted jacket, some cords and jumper, so a bit casual but perfect for the occasion. I got my fishing equipment and headed off but because I didn't have any box to put my hook and such I simply put them into my pocket, I would regret this later on. I was just walking through town with people greeting me and such, some children even asked where I was going and what I was fishing for. Everything seemed fine. After a nice walk through the countryside I finally got to the river, I put my rod together and had it underneath my arm with the back on the floor so it could stay up. With the line in my left hand I went to get my hook and I realised that the hook somehow got stuck in the pocket, once that realisation hit me I wanted to die. For the next 15 minutes I was trying to get the hook out of my fuxking pocket and thank God no one walked past because I was pretty pissed and swearing like a drunkard. In the end, my day was ruined and I got a small hole in my pocket. Feels bad man

Alright but I will just say that I do like the stripes and colours of the shirt, they're pleasing to the eye and obviously work very well with eachother, anyway, the reason why I don't like the shirt is for one, the short sleeves, short sleeves look good on polos but on button downs/dress shirts it just looks strange, it's one of those things which I just can't explain, it doesn't even necessarily mess up proportions of your body but it's still not necessarily advantageous.
Also, you could tuck the shirt but that's just my taste, I guess. I will say this about it, you did get the proportions right, unlike that guy who posted a couple of threads ago with the untucked shirt which made him look like a Neanderthal simply because his legs looked very short.
I don't think that the trousers really work well with the shirt, don't get me wrong, it doesn't look bad but the brownish grey trousers and the light blue creates a bit of an unsightly contrast, I think that if they were more of a sand colour that would look a lot better and it would work with the season.
So yeah, it's not bad, in fact, like I mentioned previously for your other fit, you'll probably get compliments instead of complaints but it's just not my style, it's a bit too casual for me.

Thanks for the detailed comment. I previously did not care much for short sleeved shirts but they have won me over, especially the boxier cuban collar shirts and hawaiian shirts which have a very nice 50's vibe to them. Regarding tucking the shirt, I don't think that's really possible with how short the hem of the shirt is – if the shirt were longer, I would tuck it, no question.
Hadn't thought about the colours but I see what you mean. The trousers are actually a sand-ish brown with a hint of olive. I have a pair of cream trousers I could try instead with the same shirt.

I find more formal summer dressing to be difficult; the problem imo is that I don't really like to wear jackets when it's hot, and shirt + trouser combos get stale fast. I find these more casual fits to be a bit more interesting, especially when mixing up with even more casual vintage inspired trousers like army fatigues, gurkhas etc. I'm awaiting a new brown linen blazer that will hopefully make dressing up a bit easier, though.

The collar is too small. Vintage camp collars are much more pointed and in proportion.

The fit of the shirt doesn't look at all boxy to me, it looks quite fitted and slim, making it look out of proportion with your trousers.

IMO it would look better tucked in, and short sleeves almost always look worse than rolled up long sleeves.

Another piece of personal critique is the watch. It looks too big. You have classic taste with your wardrobe, but that ben 10 size watch looks like something a 21 yo real estate agent in a cheap suit would wear

I actually like the white/cream socks though. I love that they're coming back in style (at least among the informed). ignore the brainlets.
