Any watch trading gurus in here?
How does one determine what is good value for money when buying a watch?

Watches are such a soulless hobby and for the most deluded suckers for marketing. The swiss must be laughing their ass off every day that people actually think they become SEAMASTER PROFESSIONAL if they strap on their outdated timekeeping device.

No watchfag. Your overpriced jewelry isn't some magical totem that encapsulates your persona. Buying watches is not a hobby and it doesn't bring any sort of benefit to the world.

>value for money

just buy a cheap $10 casio quartz or a gshock and never look at watches again

everything else is actually unneeded and more for autism and looks and to flex on other people

I believe you did not get my point, so I will try and be clearer.
There are people out there who buy and sell watches just as Warren Buffet sells stocks.
What I wanted to know if there are any people like that in here?

>>15330408
yes and there is a watch thread

but its not worth it unless you have lots of money and also like (rolex) watches, or you can do the gshock artificial scarcity limited edition bullshit

for the money u might* earn playing with watches you might as well just buy stocks instead

it is hard because there are more watches than stocks, and you have to know the movement details and versions throughout the years along with any cool facts that increase trade value.
Most collectors (not jewelers, all of whom are thieves) focus on a specific line... seamasters, daytonas or movements.

Why does buying a nice watch have to be a hobby? I just appreciate beauty and clever engineering.

Ask your self will this watch end up in a movie and get a swell of normie interest

Watch usually end up in movies before they are released to the public so that's a rabbit hunt.

How does that makes sense?Expand

Some Rolex stainless steel sports models are good value for money as they'll actually appreciate in future. Everything else will depreciate, and fast. Watches are not a sound investment.

If anyone try's to sell you a watch based on heritage there bullshiting you.

Buy something unique from a major auction house. Its cheaper than you think. The provenance will help a lot when you try to sell it. Buy what you like as well. That's my advice.

try to get a picture of what brands, Models, different Techniques exist.
compare Prices on Ebay and those of Retailers.
Go to Flea Markets...
start small, buy cheapos...
every collector makes mistakes in the Beginning, don't let this discourage you.
it's a steady learning Process...
