What’s a good Speedmaster alternative (chrono not required) that’s
>cheaper
>for guys under 35
Looking for a nicer, slightly dressier and “finer” watch to go along with my SKX (which I love) when I wanna feel like I’m wearing something special. Don’t get me wrong I love the Speedy and have always wanted one, especially given its history. But I can’t bring myself to drop 4+ grand on a watch, especially since I’ve read and seen some not great things about Omega QC, and also in some ways I feel like the design is somewhat sterile and soulless, and least for a twenty something to wear. This is probably just cope though.

I love the Tudor BB but my SKX already covers the “digits represented by circles” itch. Would like to stay around the thousand-ish mark but am fine going under or a bit over.

that's actually a somewhat average price since many GS watches lose 40-50% of their price once they hit the secondary market, quartz is more niche, and that watch in particular is not a special limited edition or anything

>>15332690
Unless you're telling me this one of the very rare 9F movements with a 5spy spec, it has a 10spy spec, same as the SACM171.

Seiko tries to pass off their 9F line as absolute top-tier HAQ, but the truth is Seiko has always lagged behind Citizen and Longines/ETA (and Omega, during the 70s) in high-accuracy quartz tech.

>Glashütte horological history begins in 1843, when Ferdinand Adolph Lange wrote a letter to the Royal Saxon government detailing a plan to open a watch factory in Glashütte and begin educating apprentices. What was so different about this plan was the idea to have the apprentices work on one specialization, thereby enabling the foundation of an industry in Glashütte. Lange had recently returned from Switzerland, where he saw this practice work very well. It was different than traditional German watchmaking, but the Royal Saxon government liked what they read, and agreed to make a substantial loan to Lange to kick start his plan. Moritz Grossman, Julius Assmann, and Adolf Schneider (who, along with F. A. Lange, are considered the four fathers of Glashütte watchmaking) also started making watches in Glashütte, and the industry flourished.

>It flourished so much that Glashütte watches started to be copied. Unscrupulous watch companies from other countries were producing watches and adding the words "System Glashütte" to their watches to give them an extra sales boost (below is an example of one such movement – Swiss in origin). As a response to this we started seeing Glashütte watches using the word "Original" to indicate that they really were from Glashütte. This is where Glashütte Original gets its name from today.

Dude, what do you even want? Does it even have to be a watch? Personally, I quite like Bromelias. Easy to keep, various colors and flowers available, vegetative reproduction (sp?) and goes well with about any furniture style. also work really well if you combine them with Orchids, if you wanna impress some girl. Plus, their biology is actually quite interesting too! And they're much cheaper than the speedmaster. Even if you wanna get some Neoregalia or others that are not regularly sold as houseplants, they're still mostly below three figures.

Any watchmakers here?
I've got this HMT I've had for years that I have really come to like. It's got a metallic green dial which looks really nice.
Basically had a watchmaker tell me the movement is fucked and it will cost at least £150 to replace the movement.
Not going to pay that for a watch I bough for £15, so I was wondering if I could just find a movement that fits the dimensions of the old movement and drop it in.
I could justify spending the money on various tools to help me along because I've got an SKX I want to replace the crystal on and my dad has mentioned how he'd like a modded Seiko but doesn't have the eyes to do that himself.

You probably have to invest in good old books if you want a comprehensive rundown.

>during World War II, small, time-only wristwatches were used by the German military and issued in large numbers. Rather than designing a specification for a wristwatch and then farming out the design and manufacturing to local watch manufacturers via a tender, as was the norm in the United States, the German government instead provided requirements to a contractor, who in turn sub-contracted suppliers to provide watches that met said requirements.

>Sometimes a particular manufacturer would use its own movement in place of the AS1130, and as the number of manufacturers who produced these watches is long, it’s anybody’s guess as to how many different movements were utilized (there is no definitive list or precise number of manufacturers known, but the number seems to be well over 30).

But from a purely what-is-missing perspective, you need a dress watch, a digital watch and a "good" watch. Technically, I'd count the vostok and the orient as good, but most folks probably would disagree.

I can't find much wrong with it other than some very small things like a bezel misalignment in the micrometer scale that may vary depending on quality control, and some people were saying things about the spring bar quality and the lume that doesn't last long, the lugs are a few micrometers longer than the case, also there is no anti reflective treatment on the sapphire glass. Other than that for me everything just feels as it should. Dial, hands, indices, caseback, crown, case treatment, bezel treatment, bracelet, it all passes with flying colors. The 40mm size is perfect for normal wrists, I like the two tone blue dial, the logo and other written stuff on the dial are diminished. I even like the cyclops, which I didn't much at first, but after a while I realised it gives it a certain uniqueness.

What? You don't need to set them daily, they're not that far off. 10 seconds off maybe, who cares.

My dad actually works for omega and he told me that their top scientists did some market research to figure out which symbol for the 12 would be best at triggering a very specific type of autist, but just be a legible symbol for everyone else and then they came up with that.
Seems about right.

In savings / cash....... not investments, I have 300k in stocks (in the 100), 2 house 350k and 200k (one rented out) no mortgages, 10% of every in gold bullion.

Most will never get to my level in their lifetime, im 40 years old. I didn't want to kick the young watchmaker right in the nuts.

10% or so, of your net worth into watches is fine, at long as you dont lose your shirt (rolex is good buying), 20% is fine as well, taking into account he is in the business, as long as your okay with that much on your wrist.

Most people have move money in their car than bank, 60k is a good starting point for buying a rolex, life is short, you have to live a little.

yes it is, and when you end your sentence with a question mark you sound like a woman
>durrr you aren't worthy of rolex you need to work x years and wear several other watches to break into it and then have 100k saved up and then you're mentally and spiritually ready to own a fucking watch
you people are hilarious, I can't imagine what a massive faggot you must be to buy rolex

But it is.
It does the same thing as a rolex, but at a fraction (of a fraction) of the cost. So it is better value. If you like it or not doesn't really factor in the consideration.
>>15334875
Oh, OK then, carry on. Still, wouldn't waste money on a Rolex if I where you, but I guess you actually can do it without causing you problems down the line. I was just assuming you're some

Keep buying these worthless jokes of a watch, I'm sure it's entertaining you. Why admit it publicly though, just buy the popewtach or a warm meal instead if you're this poor. The casio is better value than the vostok too so why stop there.
