It is. I wore basically the same thing (loafers instead of sperry) today. I mainly just wanted to post a fit since there are a load of non-fit shit-talkers here. I'm so tired of pointless spam "responses" which re-iterate the same tired criticisms. Nothing will ever change in terms of the quality of fits in these threads until people start actually contributing. Yeah, criticism is helpful but fits are a million times more. And if you're capable of dishing it out, you should be capable of dressing decently yourself.

I wish there were more preppy brands that were made in the UK and sold their clothes in the UK. I just watched an interview with the ceo of drake's and he basically said that they sell to Italians, Koreans, Japanese and Americans but british people make only a tiny fraction of their market.

Reminds me of when I went to Bologna recently and there was a great traditional shop selling loads of British made clothing and a whole host of shetland jumpers made by a brand that simply doesn't sell here.

I just found this brand through the interview.

So you’re still going with the grey 2 piece suit? If so then just get a dusty rose tie and sage green socks and pocket square. Patterns are up to you. Look some up. Allen Edmonds are high quality especially their Made in USA products. I wouldn’t go with brown shoes as the groom. They’re too casual. Make sure the shoulder width isn’t too wide on the suit, sleeves of suit and shirt shouldn’t go past an inch from your wrist, make sure your trouser hem hits mid or right below the ankle, make sure the jacket covers your butt, and go with double or no vents.

Seeing that ivy style had its origins in LARPing as the british, I have a hard time believing there's not a UK counterpart to every ivy product.

I do agree that it's hard to find UK products. There's definitely much less expenditure on marketing than in the US, and I think the british have a different, more muted relationship with clothes than the US, italians or asians. Brits don't identify themselves via brands, products and provenance the way americans do, they don't have the sartorial culture or flair of italians. Asians are just larpers with a weird relationship with ivy clothes. Ever notice how most of the big ivy/prep/#menswear personalities are boy-bodied 2nd gen asian immigrants?

I don't like drakes. They repackage ivy staples at a hilarious markup and probably spend 90% of their budget on their lame "post-prep" marketing a la Rowing Blazers. $215 for a plain OCBD, lmao fuck off. I can get Mercer and Sons for less than that. And no doubt brits with the money will just get their shirts bespoke. Drakes core demographic are probably menswear bloggers like the eternally faggy "bullshot bookclub"

I own some Drakes OCBDs and sweaters (all either thrifted or on steep sale, these things show up all the time on ebay and Grailed). The OCBD's has some of the best attention to detail I've seen (shanked mop buttons, elegant cuffs, dense stitching, great collar rolls, etc.) Is it worth full retail? I wouldn't pay that. But they have a nice 3-shirt price bundle that brings it more in line with other makers, and the differences between Drakes and those makers come down to preferences. Drake's OCBDs feel decidedly more "dressy", for example, than the Mercers I own from the fabric and cuff types. Not bad, just different.

I think you're overestimating the "post-prep" nature of Drakes and the reason for it being marked up. Drake's doesn't make dad hats and hyped sneakers to appeal to the streetwear crowd. I will agree that it's too expensive, but what I've handled is outstanding in quality.

The blue isnt quite so dark as what I think a navy is, but the Fiance liked the color.

If you want some actual advice, go with medium or dark brown oxfords. Black is going to clash with everything else light oxfords would be too much contrast with navy. For your tie and pocket square I would suggest you get a color swatch of "dusty rose" and do a lot of looking. Green will probably look odd with the navy suit but if you find something that combines both and fits the bill, that's your call. Ribbedd navy or dark grey dress socks are probably your best bet. Contrary to what most people will tell you (and consequently have you looking horrible) your pocket square does not need to be an exact match. It's more about choosing the right one. I hate that I probably own the perfect square for you and there's currently nowhere to buy it since they sold out. My advice is to not do plain and do not do anything too loud with the tie and square. You'll risk looking either cookie cutter cringe or just straight up dumb. I don't have a navy suit, but later today I'll post some inspo aimed at your wedding.
Final note: post /k/ollection faggit

Agreed in terms of culture. Streetwear is huge though in the UK, especially in London. You're still very likely to be called a gaylord if you try to dress nicely in 99% of the country.

Drakes is an interesting one. I don't think they're total hacks like rowing blazers or even dare I say it kjb. Id say their styling has changed a lot over the years and they are starting to creep into Ralph Lauren territory. I think that's fine though and I think they're toeing the line without falling into ironic parody. It's a bit like beams plus in that respect. I myself like to mix formal and informal elements with ivy style (the style originally was seen as informal in comparison to mainstream clothing) and I think it's sensible for drakes to push in that direction whilst still retaining what made the brand (Shirts and ties). Like it or not, the future of popular men's clothing is more casual.

Now of course they have got rebranded clothes sold at a big markup but EVERY brand does that. Drakes only actually makes shirts and ties. I think their suiting is made by Caruso or belvest.

So yeah. It's a risk for a brand to push too much into the youthful lol ironic stuff but it's also not good I m o to go too far backwards into slavishly copying a period of time. If there was a spectrum it would range between meticulous copying of an idealised bygone era of menswear (think simonjamescathcart) all the way to navel gazing, self fellatiating, hipster ironic nonsense (think rowing blazers). Drakes is somewhere between the two.

Ocbds are 155 in the UK. They've really gone up in price (used to be 120). You're lucky you have other options in the States. Still, for made in England shirts with a good collar roll, there really isn't anything else. The traditional brands are more expensive and often made in Romania.

The factory shop sells shirts for 65 pounds each and 4 for 3 as part of a bundle which is an absolute STEAL. Yeah some of their things have been a gyp, like the rebranded astorflex shoes or even worse, the made in Canada rugby shirts which were sold for something like five times their original retail price. That was partially egregious since there are great rugby shirts you can buy in the UK. Anyway, these are nitpicks. Harris tweed is the material. Any company can purchase it to make an item. So the garment construction will differ by a lot but as a general rule, poor construction of garments isn't very likely as the finished items still command a high price when made with Harris tweed.

It's just 100% wool. But a type of wool. A rough wool. I really am not a fan of it. Most people when buying used get drawn to the name so you can find a much cheaper 100% wool item, and most often it will be softer to the touch. Unless you are wearing something long sleeved/collar then Harris tweed can rub on your neck and wrists and it's not comfy.

A 100% wool jacket would also be originally relatively high priced so again the construction is usually going to be fine.

For a good item I would search/check. Is it 100% wool. No blends. No Polyester ion there.

Now onto the lining. It should be a viscose/rayon etc. Never polyester.

Silk is fine too! And indicates an even higher quality garment.

So an older tweed/wool sports jacket will more often than not meet those parts, while a new will have poly blends in the wool and with the lining. A new item that is 100% wool / 100% viscose is often going to easily be in the hundreds new.

Depending no where you live, you can pick up older wool spots jackets for next to nothing. $10 or around that figure. In would have originally cost 10 times that figure if not a lot more.

ok, I get it now. That blazer is quite "shiny", I'd suggest to wear something toned down.

On tops below it, wear for example a light blue shirt. Light green or white might work, I have my doubts on those 2, if you have any shirt of those colours try it and check the mirror.

For pants, any blue, brown, green or grey might work fine. Jeans might actually be a good choice for that blazer.

For belt, a brown belt will work fine. Brown loafers as shoes will work great with that.

As the person who posted it, I have to agree. Hence why I suggested our /biz/niz /k/ommando friend stick to strictly pink and blue and while I didn't say it outright, I hinted that a plain white shirt is probably the best option. I grabbed stuff that fit the wedding colors that I own so he could see what colors work and which don't. Green would be on the table if he'd gone with a grey suit, but I don't personally think it works with blue.
As a defense of the individual items, I think the shirt and suit go well and the tie and shirt pair well, but the three together simply do not work. Yes, I am autistic enough to type this all out and dumb enough to actually post.

That's an orphaned suit jacket and while yeah, you can use them, the price should never be high for them used. Orphaned suit jackets hold something like 20% value if that compared to a complete suit. It's a massive difference.

It's also double breasted, which means it;s one of the most formal types of suit.

You sound new so I really wouldn't recommend such a formal type jacket if you're just learning. You are also not listing the label/materials on the jacket.

Nope. I'm one of the original posters m8. (not the spanish slenderman). The jacket is obviously wool. I don't think that needs to be said. Anyway, you're right, it's too formal and constructed for what I want. Ideally I'd like the unlined, unstructured double breasted blazers of Anglo-Italian.

And i saw a black cashmere blend Saint Laurent Paris sweater

This was back when Heidi just did the name change. And this was a resale shop in Los Angeles that you see celebs walking out of on tmz sometimes.

velvet pants anon here, got them in the mail today. 100% cotton or not they are fucking trash. paper thin material, low waist, shitty construction. more fool me for trusting topman.

The collar is too small, here it's called a baby collar, which is a problem because not only is it unproportional for most people but it also eliminates the opportunity for the wearer to have a nice collar roll which looks very nice with or without a tie.

I don't fucking believe it, why are you surprised that it's shit? Maybe you got it used (and if so, next time get it from a good brand) because I cannot believe that new trousers can cost 11 pounds, especially velvet trousers.

Don't get anything new from eBay, 98% of the time they'll be trash. Also never ever go for top man or any other mall tier brands, that's a rookie mistake.

i know, wont be making that mistake again.

>Don't get anything new from eBay, 98% of the time they'll be trash.
this isnt a good idea though, ive had a couple things bought new off ebay because some idiot put it up on auction with a low minimum and no reserve, thinking people would bid and not snipe at the lowest price in the last minute.

Of course there will be good things but most of the stuff is actual trash, I've had more luck on the used section :))

I understand, thank you.

What brands would you recommend for somebody who just want a few formal (white, sky blue) and informal (same but button-down + jumper) shirts? British style if possible, and no logos.

Shirt is too long m8

One size down, ditch it if it doesn't fit

If you've already bought it get some alterations and it'll be fine

Yeah I've used proper cloth a few times, their fabric selection is really good but make sure you send it back and get alterations (pretty sure they're free) or the shirt will not fit right. good luck

If you're still looking for help, the biggest problem is that this isn't a summer blazer. That said, shades of brown, navy, or even a dark green would work with that. You could also try like a mid blue or a maroon. Probably don't do gray with brown shoes, in my experience they're not easy to combine. You could probably even try a beige/stone pair of trousers. As for shirt, you literally can't go wrong with white. Nice pick btw, Husbands is one of my favorite designers
