Is there anything more conformist than getting a tattoo?

It really is. Only about 20% of the human population is tattooed. If we're going by country the U.S. clocks in with only about a quarter of the population being tattooed.

Tattoos are becoming more accepted but I don't think it'll ever get about 30% of any population being tattooed. I imagine it's super low for places like Japan. Even though their style of tattooing is a world famous art form, they still discriminate against and ostracize people with tattoos.

overall stats maybe, but considering this website is just a bunch of zoomers and millenials, and those age groups have like upwards of 60% of people with tattoos, they seem very conformist.

In a way, it is quite conformist, but it won't reach the level of, say, getting married or having instagram

I hate tattoos, but I can respect a well done body piece or double sleeves.
Most tattoos are just a smattering of hastily drawn doodles though, almost always the same generic butterflies/stars/trees. Unless you're going for the 19th century sailor or soundcloud rapper look, it doesn't work.

I've always been a believer that tattoos have value in two ways: the close up and the general aesthetic.

On the closeup, a tattoo can be a real work of art. Detailed with shadows and intricate lines.

When looked at as a part of someone's look/body, it assumes a different part. It literally is part of a whole aesthetic.

Tattoos can have little detail and still look good as a general aesthetic piece. Sometimes even too much detail and shadow can ruin the look of a tattoo on the whole.

This is why I think the aesthetic value is much larger than what people appreciate it for. Get a tattoo with or without meaning, that's irrelevant. Just make sure it looks good as a part of the whole.

Even though tattoos are not for me, tattoos tell a story of what someone's life is. Tattoos could also be very artistic used for the sake of art. Most tattoos I notice are hardly used as a waste. Most people get tattoos intellectually, having thought very through about what they would get.
