Leather straps are fine if you're in an office. If you do anything remotely athletic or if you sweat, then it's hopeless. Even good leather straps (i.e. Hirsch et al) still suffer. It has another hand for the alarm (the small arrow at 8 o'clock). You wind the top crown to set the alarm and set the alarm hand to the time you want it to go off. When the hour hand reaches that time and overlaps with the small arrow hand the alarm will go off. Not sure, but the last number in the casing code refers to the regional market. No one seems to know all the details, but it's pretty clear that e.g. 9 is NA, 0 is usually Japan & SE Asia. 3's and 5's are also seen. Can't find a source but I think I remeber seeing somewhere that 1 could be strictly JDM. Then again, it's said somewhere that sometimes the last number can also indicate small revisions in the design.

at $310 you can get well into the entry offerings by major big brands. A citizen ecodrive (already a big upgrade from normal quartz), orient, seiko. You can get swiss (tissot, swatch). European names like Laco, Glycine. You can look into the myriad of microbrands or get a nice solid san martin. You can literally buy like 3 soviet vintage watches off ebay and thats very interesting if you are into history. Hell, you can buy Orient's Star line which is the best grade for them. You can buy 3-5 G-shocks for $300.

Anyway, a Swiss made GMT with a ETA 2893-2, sapphire crystal, 200m wr and a nice history for under 500$. I am not really complaining. Nothing seems to even remotely compete in that price range.
