I always wanted a Cosmonaute myself...it's the only 24hour dial watch that I think looks perfect. But only in the 1960s iteration...the modern ones have subdials that are too large, and according to the boutique I stopped in a year ago, they'd stopped making the model entirely. Shame.

>>15307349
Ugly. Like black diamonds; intended to be bought by males seeking masculine jewelry when in reality the blackness hides flaws in the finishing or uniformity of materials.

>>15307403
One day. Still the most perfect mechanical chronograph in the world in terms of balance of aesthetics + function.

>>15307441
Leather straps are fine if you're in an office. If you do anything remotely athletic or if you sweat, then it's hopeless. Even good leather straps (i.e. Hirsch et al) still suffer. I transfer my Omega to a sharkskin for a few months of the year, but even then it's getting fewer and fewer as time goes by, and the old Panerai straps disintegrated pretty damn quickly (but I think it's because of the ph level of my sweat and not the inherent quality of the leather).

>>15307453
Yeah, but it's advertising; no one takes this kind of stuff seriously unless they know nothing about watches but have too much money to burn.

>>15307487
No, and no modern speedies have either. We love the Speedy for the look, the association or connection with history, and the wearability. Few 3-register chronographs have the aesthetic balance, the reliability under extreme duress, and the immediate recognizably that the Speedy has.

It has another hand for the alarm (the small arrow at 8 o'clock). You wind the top crown to set the alarm and set the alarm hand to the time you want it to go off. When the hour hand reaches that time and overlaps with the small arrow hand the alarm will go off. It's not super loud, but you'll definitely hear/feel it on your wrist, and when in good condition it can sound for about 10 seconds. Modern Swiss mechanical alarms will set you back a few grand, but these old Soviet ones can be had for $100-200 in decent condition.

There are Chinese factories that make fakes of $200 Seagulls. I'm not talking about just the 1963 (of which 90%+ in circulation are fake/unauthorized production) but standard cheap Seagull models are regularly faked. The quickest way to tell is if the store refuses to ship inside China but has no problem exporting it, in that case it's almost definitely fake. Their laws about counterfeit goods are heavy inside their own borders but they have no issues with shipping shit over to the west.

If it’s of any help: my chinkwatch i ordered in March is also lost in transit without any tracking.

How do y’all deal with your watch sitting on the corner of your laptop? With a nato, it’s bearable but with a bracelet or leather it’s really annoying. I just remove the watch, but that also sucks.
Is the age of wristwatches over, now that we’re all working in front of a monitor (which always shows the time anyways) and a keyboard?

well, I just have an external keyboard hooked up to my laptop. it's only sorta annoying if you are travelling around with a notebook. but it sucks with all jewelry. like holding a gamepad with rings on your fingers is slightly uncomfortable too. either embrace it, never game or just remove jewelry.

Not sure, but the last number in the casing code refers to the regional market. No one seems to know all the details, but it's pretty clear that e.g. 9 is NA, 0 is usually Japan & SE Asia. 3's and 5's are also seen. Can't find a source but I think I remeber seeing somewhere that 1 could be strictly JDM. Then again, it's said somewhere that sometimes the last number can also indicate small revisions in the design.
tl;dr I don't know, but they sure look the same to me.

I think this year will be doing my first big watch purchase, I like space and stuff, so obviously the speedy was the first option, then I saw fortis watches carried by russians and they are growing on me. As the time passes and I read stuff, I came to the same point, the speedy is not a watch, it's an icon, a meme, something that ''must be in every collection'', man on the moon, speedy tuesdays...it's sooo mainstream. I like watches because I like knowing the time, I appreciate them as tools, and the speedy is not a tool anymore, 10 years ago its price was way lower, 10 years later it hasn't a tool pricetag anymore and its specs are the same. That's why i think I'm gonna get the fortis, seems more of a tool watch, day, date, workhorse movement, rotating bezel, and the brand, probably nobody knows about it even when its old and their watches have been on the space countless times.

at $310 you can get well into the entry offerings by major big brands. A citizen ecodrive (already a big upgrade from normal quartz), orient, seiko. You can get swiss (tissot, swatch). European names like Laco, Glycine. You can look into the myriad of microbrands or get a nice solid san martin. You can literally buy like 3 soviet vintage watches off ebay and thats very interesting if you are into history. Hell, you can buy Orient's Star line which is the best grade for them. You can buy 3-5 G-shocks for $300.

And if you want similar to what they offer, chinese brands like cadisen or guanqin already make watches with the same specs and at under $100.

Yes, it looks better, but it feels less tool watch, more of a ''dress'' watch/casual wear, less rugged, and is not the real deal since that watch isn't approved to be a space watch unlike the other fortis. But I'm not sure about the final decission yet, the only thing I don't like about that watch is the ''official comsmonaut'', feels wrong when the watch is not the official watch and its more like a reissue.BTW, I won't buy until mid-late this year, so I have time to think about it will be mostly a Fortis unless I get caught in the speedy meme wagon.

Shit, didn't think about that, now I'm paranoid. Though it's an X1, so the speakers are 4cm away from the corner and I'd guess the magnet is really weak in such a tin(n)y speaker.
Or should I really be concerned?

What better place than watches to appease your tism and go all out for an exact spec of thing you want. Hell, I guess thats why so many people mod their watches even, scratching that ONE itch no microbrand has done.
Other than plane simulators or whathaveyou.
It is also a relatively cheap hobby if you like to fiddle with the parts of a home-assembled shitter yourself.

And there are several versions including rubber strap ones, so you can get the one you like more.

It's a bit like fucking a cheap hooker that doesn't even try to pretend she's enjoying it. It's a turnoff for most people. I'd rather spend some (a lot) more and have an escort that goes to uni and can hold conversation and at least pretends your cock is amazing.

I don't want to pay 50x the price for history though
Regardless of how much history a brand has, if chinese can do it for 50 dollars why can't swiss do it for 1000 instead of 10,000?

Yeah but apparently their quality hasn't dropped (at least that is what I've read). So either they now have the money to sell bellow their worth because of the Invicta involvement or they were heavily overpriced before that.

Anyway, a Swiss made GMT with a ETA 2893-2, sapphire crystal, 200m wr and a nice history for under 500$. I am not really complaining. Nothing seems to even remotely compete in that price range.
