>Laco's cheapest automatic flieger watch is a $350+ Miyota mineral crystal shitter
Nothing wrong with Miyota and mineral crystal but...
How the FUCK do they justify this when you can go on fucking AliExpress and buy a flieger watch with a SAPPHIRE crystal, SEIKO movement that hacks, and is 200m water resistant for 86 fucking bucks???
Goddammit I am seething.

>> No.15303989

On a related note, how come every shit fake and Chinese homage watch that costs 100 dollars comes with sapphire crystal but you can't even get that on a Seiko unless yous spend $500+?

>> No.15304024

>>15303989
Seiko etc. may have some pixie dust antireflective coatings on the underside, or something. Chink sapphire on shitters is certainly not as oleophobic as the glass on a chink smartphone. But I dunno, Seiko also gets murdered on the bracelet front. Maybe chinkshit is just priced for chinese markets.

The sapphire on Chinese watches isn't as hard as it is on reputable watch brands. Is it different enough to make a difference? I don't know.
With seiko they keep the prices on sapphire watches artificially high to encourage you to buy the next tier up of watch. At least they usually also have better movements and nicer finishing and dials on those models as well. So you aren't just paying an extra $200-$500 just for sapphire.

>seagull 1963
those watches are beautifully charming but theres something you have to know about them

Due to past circumstances most 1963s you see on the market are licensed/unlicensed/clones. Its quite a murky zone

Seagull themselves now make their own 1963 out of their tianjin factory but those cost a fair bit more than the previous unofficial watches mentioned. (Like $450 vs $180). They have an official aliexpress store. Theres even a new limited edition 'plan B' 1962 (not 63) seagull on offer.

The real seagulls have a number on the back. And they come purely with acrylic and not sapphire. They also do not have a display caseback.

The non official 1963s come in a range of colour, sizes (38mm to 42mm), with a choice of sapphire or acrylic, normal display back, extra large display back, or no display back. All this at a lower price.

So it depends on do you want the "'real deal"" or not. Maybe it can be argued that does it really matter? its still a ST19 and made in the same country.

Imagine spending

Just to listen to Disney Princess songs.

OK, so there was a lot of discussion on Natos last thread, but I still have some questions…

>>15303753
>Yes it can save a watch If a springbar fails but it also puts more stress on them in the first place if the entire watch wasn't designed with a nato in mind.
>>15303761
>How does it put more stress on the bars?
How do you design a watch for natos? Still don't get the extra stress.
>>15303882
>To my knowledge the added material under the watch case can lead to additional downward tension on the spring bar instead of the classic outside "pull". Especially in a watch there the lugs and springbars aren't flish with the case bottom.
That kinda helps, but it's a round bar in a round hole, so it should not matter which direction you put on force.

contd.

>Funny thing about natos: my understanding is that the military watches had soldered bars instead of springbars, so the only thing that could fail (and thus lose the watch) was the nato strap. I wonder though if a modern nato puts any more stress on the springbars than a normal leather strap. Why would the downward pressure towards the skin be any different or have a different amount of force?
>>15303786
>5 ring Zulus can solve that problem
>>15303882
>This has been a controversial discussion over at the Rolex forums but in essence it does make your watch safer unless you already have shitty spring bars and/or wear your strap too tight.

I still don't understand how a Nato is better at saving the watch if a springbar fails (btw, I also have heard that military watches don't have springbars, and I can understand, those fuckers look flimsy!) compared to a RAF strap or some other single strap system. As long as it's not a two piece strap (as about every classic leather strap or bracelet), the watch will still dangle on your arm with only one springbar remaining (so that you can loose it within minutes, because let's be real, if you're bashing your arm around so much that you rip out a springbar even while the watch is flat to your wrist, a dangling watch will not stay on for longer than a few seconds).
And some anon mentioned shitty springbars:
Just noticed a while ago my BOCTOK has some quite thick springbars (though bent and rusty), whereas the springbars that came with my straps are all really thin.
Can I buy ultra-strong or high-performance bars somewhere?

Honest question.....why do you care about a sapphire crystal on a citizen.

1: the watch isn't worth servicing. Since parts and labor will be higher than the cost of a new watch

They're just watches. Why would you be depressed over that? Collecting and having a watch hobby doesn't and isn't about having 10k plus watches. That's just attempting to feel superior over others.

Most of the watches posted in these threads are not owned by the posters, most are re-posts, stolen pics etc. and most are fakes.

When you buy a rolex for 20 thousand, you're buying it simply because of that reason. It's an expensive brand watch and you want to show off. It has nothing to do with an actual watch collecting hobby.

In other hobbies you'll see a diverse range of things people like, here you'll see the same brands over and other. There are plenty of equally expensive if not more expensive watch brands but you see them much less because people only want brands that average people recognize because that's all they're about.
