I love the cartier tank aesthetic, but i'm a poor student. So, until I can get the true grail, I want to scratch the itch with a seiko supXXX. Should I get a sup250 or sup880 for my 7.5" wrists? I know that 880 is the men's watch but it looks so comically large in any on-wrist shots i've seen, and I prefer the older small watch aesthetic.

Are all on-wrist shots on the internet by wristlets or is the watch really just nixon-tier in size and I should try the sup250?

Balance spring got tired? My Vostok recently needed a kickstart, and has been doing 7s/d since then. The home remedy was "put the watch body on a flat surface dial up, and give it a twist left and right". This kickstarts the balance like a watchmaker would do with a toothpick or some such.

The watch body. Around its vertical axis. On the tabletop. 180 degrees left and then 180 degrees right, briskly. Idea being that this turns the body around the balance, which causes the balance spring to kick back in. Afterward the movement's normal recharge should power it back up.

Not too easy actually, you're in the peak midwit budget range for new watches. Between 500 and 2500 lies the massive black hole where the watches stay basically the same quality but the price explodes.
With just a bit more money (2.5-3k) you could buy a two tone Tudor in in something like 37-39 mm in size which would be perfect for you and the kind of gold you're looking for I think.
However if you don't want to stretch, I'd get something like a Citizen Corso or even better something like a Seiko 5 (SNXJ92 or SNE044 come to mind) and if you're still into this thing and want to upgrade later you can still buy a more expensive Swiss watch.

Just one more note: I wouldn't call the Endeavor a "not big" watch.

>In a world first, the Japanese brand is introducing three new Eco-Drive watches that achieve an accuracy to within ±1 second per year. They draw directly on Citizen’s long tradition of R&D in precision timekeeping: the Caliber 0100 is a direct heir of the Crystron Mega of 1975, which even then was capable of an accuracy of ±3 seconds per year.

>As the brand explains, the first step was to replace the traditional tuning fork-shaped crystal oscillators generally used in quartz watches with AT cut type crystal oscillators. These oscillators vibrate at a frequency of 8.4 MHz (8,388,608 Hz), which is more than 250 times higher than normal tuning fork-shaped crystal oscillators. It ensures that this new mechanism remains resistant to outside influences such as temperature fluctuations and the effects of gravity, as well as age degradation.

>What’s more, the Caliber 0100 maintains its greater accuracy by continuously monitoring and adjusting for frequency and temperature shifts once every minute. The optimal running temperature is between 5°C and 40°C, which is considered the most practical watch temperature environment for most regions of the world.

>A new circuit design also incorporates higher shock resistance, which automatically corrects the position of the watch hands, and an antimagnetic feature to protect the movement from the effects of magnetic forces. All these innovations combine to deliver an unprecedented ±1 second per year precision accuracy.

Literally the world's most accurate watch. (RC watches dont count)

Yes, it does. The Apple Watch is actually a very high-accuracy watch even without external assistance. Tests from hobbyists have put it in high single-digit or low double-digit seconds per year. It's not actually quartz - at least for the ones where we have good teardown data, they use a MEMS oscillator, rather than a quartz oscillator. Same principle though.

life is too short to be too concerned about what others think. Invicta is a real watch brand (actually dating back to 1837!) and the only real consideration is not getting overly ripped off by prices.

Pretty interesting article on the apple watch time keeping mechanism. Every modern device that has a processor of any kind in it needs a central timekeeping unit. A clock basically, simply to tell the processor how fast it needs to operate and so on. In newer Apple products this oscillator is so small that it can be temporarily deactivated or confused by putting the device in a helium rich environment.

That you'll never be able to sell it to an enthusiast, since they typically insist on some paperwork, or at least a certificate of authenticity when buying from a "nobody". Any attempt to get the certificate of authenticity will require the watchmaker to get the watch's serial number, which will show the watch as having been reported stolen. Of course, you can wear the watch yourself, but when it needs servicing, you'll get busted - again, when the watch's serial number is checked. However, expecting a looter to think 5-10 years into the future is probably setting your expectations too high.
Of course, you could luck out and find someone who's dumb enough to buy it, and since you didn't pay anything for it, it's still profit.

For reg seiko, it’s tiered depending on if the watch is newer or vintage.
Depending on the model it’s between 50-300. A quartz would be low end and a 7s26 would be 75ish, and something like a sarb would be 200.
For grand seiko, it’s about 300 for a 8j/9f movement service, and for an automatic/spring drive between 5-800 depending on the model. A re-Zaratsu polish is 600 across the board last time I checked.

This is implying that Rolex's without papers suddenly are worthless which isn't true in the slightest, tons of watches sell without papers at a discount but still at a considerable sum. you need to somehow have thermal contact with the air while not having it with the case. either they have a way of connecting the temperature sensor to the outside through the crystal or on a special connector through the case or something, or they just couple to the case and say "fuck it they won't care if the body temp alters it a few degrees"

even if you personally don’t know much about watches, do you not think the ability to pump out over a million watches per year is an incredible feat? and not just a million watches, but watches that right out of the production line are within COSC specifications and are ready for whatever task they are designed for. if you buy a submariner from an AD you can go right ahead and dip it to 300 meters into the ocean and you are guaranteed to have it operate within specifications. of how main stream products can we say the same? meaning, pushing it to its specified limits and have it work perfectly.

This, nato straps look extremely cheap, the loop that they do add unnecessary bulkiness(looks top heavy) and the worst thing is when guys try to do the matchy matchy thing, one stripe matches the dial, other stripe matches the bezel, other stripe matches the second hand etc... there's a reason why you're not a designer, that shit looks terrible.

Are they really made out of meteorite, or just something that's got the look?
Because meteorites are freaking expensive, especially ones that are large enough you could cut some watch dials from.
