Immediate crack of the sharp and sparse: celery, lime, and a dry-grass green, only slightly conjoined by a shared bitter glow. As soon as they arrive they begin to independently fall and rise again, leaving a solid block of stale lemon pepper in the gaps, intermittently seeming to conceal a nauseous and grating whiff of gastric acid that never quite escapes its covers. As the intro fades, that digestive sourness becomes the odd car out on a slow-rotating and blurred carousel of oily woods, including a school desk, an old moss-covered bookshelf, and something like post office stationary which are slowly brought around and replace each other in the back of your throat. Within a few hours it's just a greasy pillow of wood that continues to fade in and out

Scores compliments of "fresh pepperiness" from others and interesting to experience but it just gets more unpleasant and tougher to keep my lunch down the longer I'm in it despite the subtlety

>Hermes Terre d'Hermes EdP
smells like orange-scented cleaning products and salt but in a good way. good performance and interesting scent

>Hugo Reverse
smells like lemon, I can't smell anything else here but it does smell good

>Montblanc Explorer
it's ok. very safe with poor performance but it smells nice

>Molecule 01
If I really focus on this I might smell some dry moss or wood which does smell nice but it is just very weak

>Dior Sauvage EdP
It's really strong and I think it's the only one I recognize from somewhere. I wouldn't buy it but it is okay

>Versace Eros
also very strong, don't like the vanilla and the overall "sweetness" in this but I don't hate it either

>Armaf CDNIM
horrible. I recently forgot a lemon in my fridge and by the time I found it, it had turned completely black. had I dragged this lemon through an ashtray it would have smelled exactly like this fragrance

>JPG Ultra Male
Nauseating, smells like this cotton candy they sell at festivals. Don't like this at all

Well, people are similar in a lot of ways no matter where they’re from. We tend to think of fragrances as something sexy here, something you wear to help you get laid, that’s why they make fragrances smell sexy. The Middle East is the same. Camels smell like shit, oud smells like shit, therefore oud smells like sex to arabs. Oud = fuccboi scents over there.

Just got this plus a few samples thrown in too;

>MFK - Grand Soir
Really nice smooth, sweet and warm amber. A lot like Carner Ambar Del Sur but with good projection and longevity, put off by the price but possibly a buy someday. 8.5/10

>Tauer - Incense Extreme
Almost an orange-like light, dry incense. Disliked it the first time I tried it but it's growing on me. 7/10

>Heeley - Cardinal
Church incense, but smoothed out and richer. I find it in a perfect middle ground between CdG Avignon and Berry Cathédrale, definitely sample again but not sure how wearable it is. 8/10

>Lorenzo Villoresi - Spezie
Spicy spring/summer scent but gets too close to smelling like body odour and dirty clothes. 5.5/10

>Ormonde Jayne - Frangipani
Sour summer floral citrus with sub-par longevity for the price. Didn't like it at all though and comes off with a pissy citrus smell like a bastard mongrel of Platinum Egoiste and L'Eau d'Issey. 3/10

Sold the LDDM bottle I had for just over two years last month to put a bit towards ACDD. I did really like it and the DNA both of them have but it did something strange on my skin and projected out smelling like curry if I got the slightest bit too hot. Sampled ACDD last year and then again recently and found it much smoother and without that pungent cumin note I sometimes got from LDDM so decided it was time to swap them over. Slightly more versatile too, I can easily see it being a part in my autumn, winter and spring rotations rater than just winter really with LDDM.

Same, chucked in one of my Jovoy orders a few weeks ago. Thought it sounded like a similar but different take on Avignon so gave it ago. Very authentic and real smelling church incense with a cold, stoney feel. The least wearable of the three if you put it alongside Cardinal as well but the most interesting.

Oh shit, my samples of NYI, ‘92 Kouros and Crime and Punishment are here. I also did something silly and managed to get a cheap bottle of modern Kouros so that should be here this week to give a comparison. I put one spray of that on my wrist and HOOOOOOOOH I like it. I get the bathroom/piss comparisons, but it’s far from unpleasant.

I put Crime and Punishment on my other wrist and my word, this is good. I’m a bit of a novice so I feel some of it may be lost on me, but my first thought is it has a kind of rubbery smell, but also woody, kind of like a dusty old book. I hope I’m not subconsciously repeating Wafts but I may revisit their video now so I can compare it. I’ll try NYI after a shower tonight.

I wonder if the person that suggested I buy them is here. By any chance was it our resident Polish Brit?

Yeah, I'm tempted to buy because it's Malle and a cheap partial (I could just resell) but I may have to pass on it. It has divisive reviews. Lately I like skin scents, but I probably won't jive with a bottle of a powdery frag I'd rarely wear

>> No.15288314

Already that comment I made about rubber and books seems redundant. It’s unusually bright for something I expected to be so dark. It still has a kind of dryness to it, maybe Tobacco Oud’s dry opening may be a popular comparison, but it’s got some lovely floral elements coming through to stop it being too weighty. Obviously it’s going to take a lot longer to get a fuller picture but on first impressions I’m impressed. One spray and it’s fucking strong too.

>Daytime/office wear

Prada L'Homme - As much of a meme as it is, it's still true; the actual Office for Men. Good longevity, not too loud for work, all year round really but I prefer it in spring/summer.

AdP Colonia Essenza - Probably not for you if you're under 25, but incredibly versatile and at it's best in summer. Projection and longevity is good and is one of my favourite fragrances of all time.

Amouage Reflection Man - Price always seems to fluctuate in discounters but if you can find it for a good price somewhere it's worth it. It's probably the least challenging and safest fragrance Amouage have ever made but it still feels rich and decadent as far as office scents go while being safe to wear there.

>Summer casual/evening

Montblanc Explorer - I wouldn't bother with CDNMI if you want an affordable Aventus clone, newer batches of CNDMI are shit and it's been made completely obsolete by Explorer. This is to Aventus what Cool Water is to GIT.

Chanel Bleu de Chanel EDT - I have a large summer rotation and a decent choice of niche options but I still find this one of the best summer evening fragrances I
keep choosing.

PdM Percival - Probably my most worn spring/summer frag last year. Nothing new or original but nearly every 'blue' fragrance ever rolled up and poured into one bottle with excellent longevity and projection. A synthetic aromachemical bomb if there ever was one, but a really nice one.

I ordered them Friday night and he sent them yesterday morning. Normally he sends them signed for but because it wasn’t convenient he just sent them first class tracked. Great service.

I’m looking forward to trying NYI. It’s interesting how just sampling and enjoying my current fragrances allows me to learn how things smell without actually smelling them. For example, I’ve never smelled Oud before but given that I’m still getting that comparison to Tobacco Oud I feel like what I’m smelling must be the Oud. There’s a really smooth spiciness to it as well. What’s also fascinating is how I can take a big sniff of it, take a breather, go back again and I can pick out different things so early in the fragrance. Normally with cheaper fragrances you’d be waiting ages to get any noticeable development, but with this I’m getting all kinds of different things already presenting themselves. I’m reading the notes and I wonder how our brains work because I’m seeing in the floral notes it contains ylang ylang and when I go in with that in mind I can detect a very subtle similarity to Black Orchid, which I can only assume is the Ylang Ylang (or just the blend of florals). This is so much fun, I’m glad you suggested it!

I for one put some thought into my image and how people perceive me. And since I mostly dress simple for professional setting fragrances give me an extra edge to stress different qualities I want to bring. They also serve as a tool to make me feel some way. I have frags for times when I want to feel sharp, when I want to feel confident almost like 'The World Is Yours' etc. That's one thing, the other is just appreciation for the art really. There are many wonderful fragrances that I don't have to necessarily own but like to appreciate. Just like the anon who ordered a sample of Crime & Punishment couple posts above. You're right that it doesn't take a lot to smell good to women but that's not the point.
>>15288432
I'm glad that you like it (I haven't tried it myself, was just listening to Wafts and wondered how others would like it). And yeah I also am impressed with the brain's capability to learn what something smells like in isolation. However, ordering absolutes of raw ingredients was a big step forward for me. For example I had some misconceptions about labdanum and how does it smell like and now I can identify it with ease after ordering a 1ml absolute.

I can't afford to splurge on samples atm, especially how costly niche frags are even sample wise so I aim for the latter approach, just burning through my splits of designer frags I wasn't 100% sure on blind buying.

It doesn’t matter “more” to me. It’s always been about either conveying an image, an attitude or completing a look. I wore Colonia Essenza to a wedding last year because I felt it was the best choice. It’s clean, pleasant, not overpowering, but strong enough to notice. It’s not my day but as Best Man I wanted to at least present myself well. I would be hugging, kissing, shaking hands. It’s a pleasant scent if you’re close enough and it made me smile, which is what you want.

I nearly went for Tobacco Vanille. It would have given off an entirely different impression. It would have worked, I was one of the most important people there. It makes a statement, it says “Look, I’m here. If you need something, you speak to me”. It’s memorable and distinct. But I decided it was too powerful and that’s not what I wanted to give off. And this of course was in the same outfit. As I said, the it’s about what I want to convey and how I hope to be perceived. I could have worn VPH and people may have thought “He smells nice” but it wouldn’t have done anything more. And maybe nobody would have got any of those things I mentioned from any of them, but it alters how I feel and I think it gives me a confidence boost.

When it comes to other people, I don’t know about “impressed” if a businessman was wearing something out of the ordinary like Hyrax, but I’d be fascinated by why they chose it, and if they carry it well it would make me interested in why they chose it. You could wear a suit with Polo a Red and I’d think “Yeah, that makes sense” because it fits the look, but it doesn’t intrigue me.

I don’t know if this really answers your question at all, I’m just rambling now.

Slight update on Crime and Punishment and Vintage Kouros.

C&P has become more subtle. Not that it’s disappearing or weak or anything, but the initial bombastic opening has stepped aside. It announced its presence as it entered the room and now it’s politely introducing itself to the guests. I’m getting a little more fruity sweetness now. It’s still got that woody, spiciness from the opening but it’s taking a back seat.

As for Kouros it’s really fascinating to me. It’s got an undeniable dirtiness, but it’s not all pissy. It’s fresh and has an unusual cleanliness to it. Perhaps “sterile” might be better rather than clean. It’s clean in an almost chemical way rather than a soapy one. I’m really enjoying it, and the honey people speak of is definitely there. I don’t know if I would have identified it as honey, but it’s an elegant sweetness that stops it becoming too dense. It’s really interesting. I do wonder what it must have been like to go to pubs and clubs when scents like these were popular in the 80s.

Have you ever read any other Krasznahorkai? Melancholy of Resistance is an absolute monster of a book. Not an easy read but well worth it. I’m hoping to watch the film again now it’s out on Blu Ray. The Turin Horse was possibly the most challenging film I’ve sat through. I’ve seen Out 1 and even that was easier than Turin Horse. Punishing. But masterful.

it's important that you buy only 50ml and no more, because the search never ends and there is a possibility that you'll just keep exploring new stuff and there is no point in buying bigger bottles because you'll most likely be descended into the madness by the time you finish that 50mls and have ten other bottles in your collection

>Para Cresyl Phenyl Acetate - 10
>Dihydro Eugenol - 15
>Indole 10% - 15
>Geranyl Acetate - 40
>Hexyl Salicylate - 50
>Tetrahydro Linalool - 55
>Benzyl Acetate - 400
>Hedione - 400
>Ebanol is a modifier in this blend that gives warm volume and floral richness.
>Florhydral adds fresh green floral notes
Damn, perfumery is really complicated. In any case it should at least work as a fixative and diffusive agent. Will see.

I'm quite satisfied with the result of Anon the EdP after adding bergamot and hedione. It's still very labdanum-forward but definitely smoother and richer now. Gonna let it sit and mix together and then dilute to make an EdP out of it. I love the deep natural ambery color btw. So are any anons interested in smelling it? I will end up with 12 millilitres if my calculations are correct so can make some samples. We can't really post perfumes outside UK if oi m8 you don't have a loicense so let me send the first attempt to Britanons only. It’s definitely Kouros, but I wasn’t expecting to see this much difference. It’s only been five minutes so I’ll see how it goes. I was feeling pretty bad about blind buying it after yesterday’s sample since it’s so polarising, but I have to say, being tamed as it would appear to be perhaps makes it more wearable in the modern day. Obviously the appeal is in wearing a big, bold 80s scent, but if it maintains its character but in a more subtle way maybe that’s not so bad. But as I said, I’ll see how it develops.

Maybe at the weekend I’ll do a spray of each on both wrists.

From the first spritz of the diluted version I can tell that I’ll be waiting for colder days to wear my child with pride. It was so much fun to create even the first version with a lot of room for improvement. I can highly recommend it to anyone. Get yourself some good natural ingredients and try to do something out of it. I still feel like a brainlet for making rosewood a feeble top note that lasts for 5 minutes instead of being a basenotes as referenced everywhere (although hedione smeared it a bit into middle and overall smoothened the edges - I was surprised how sharp, almost synthetically sharp, natural rosewood melange smells like).

Sure thing, post your samples. Also, don't forget to check out that Crime Passionel store, I went to pick up my Azemour sample and ended up talking for 30 minutes to the attendant, he was telling me all about the history of Parfum d'Empires and we even referenced Luca Turin.

I can but I'm not a fan of the notes of the other ones. I'll take a look at Sur le Nil though, thanks.

Green one is Xerjoff Nio.

Got some more coming in the mail soon too, including a The World in Scents sample pack! What do you have?
And yeah I've been waiting to go to that store ever since you told me about it. Been checking the website every now and then. Do they really have so you can book a private appointment at night? That is mad!

>Malle Une Rose
>Tauer Phi Une Rose de Kandahar
>Diptyque Eau Rose (probably closest to rose water but leans fem)
>Lutens La Fille de Berlin / Sa Mageste la Rose
>Cartier Declaration d'un Soir (budget masculine pick)

Any other anons have thoughts?

yeah, I saw that. It feels like it's a true passion project, not just some guy trying to make some money. Although honestly I don't like their selection that much, a lot of their brands don't really appeal to me.

Pic relate are my samples, plus a Sylvaine Delacourte orange sample box plus the Oriza Legrand sample box. I'm also thinking of getting some Nicolai Parfums samples, and a few other things.

I tell you what, lads, I’m loving this current batch of Kouros. I absolutely cannot wait to wear it on a hot day. I’ve now got five sprays on and I smell so good. It’s definitely still got that animalic aspect there, I guess it wouldn’t be Kouros without it, but it seems to be working in harmony with the other notes rather than cutting through them.

Damn that looks great, I've been wanting to try Floraiku for a while but haven't seen it much in Sweden, and I haven't been wanting to spend the money to smell Kurkdjian so interested in that too. I think we could get something nice going!

If you're referring to BR40-fueled gay sex, then yes, I agree. It's gonna be great.

And yeah the store is also a bit outside of my current tastes but it seems like a great discovery place.

What do you think of Atelier Cologne Cafe Tuberose? I found it absolutely horrible, worst thing I've smelled so far.

From this perfume Chad in a Facebook group I'm in who has like every AdP, Atelier, and Margiela haha

I haven't tried it on yet, waiting for fall, but on paper it smelled pretty ok, definitely better than most coffee frags. My girlfriend thought it was awful and way too strong though, and I kinda got the sample for her haha. I'll try it on some day soon

Never gotten any comments positive or negative on DHI even though I wear it fairly often and have been for several years. Dior Homme on the other hand I've only ever gotten negative comments on. Spicebomb Extreme, PdM Percival and Bvlgari Aqva Atlantique while I had it always seemed to get me compliments though, especially SE. Aventus I always found pretty strange; never had a single compliment or even comment on it by a woman but regularly got complimented on it by men, has this usually clear gender divide on who likes that DNA and style of frag for some reason.

I find with niche, unless it's the most vanilla things possible like Percival or Amouage Reflection Man etc most normies just can't get their heads around it and aren't used to smelling things like some deeper cuts into niche fragrance so initially are repelled by it. But then niche really I find is really just best worn for your own enjoyment rather than for wearing casually to go out.
