>YFW you know the jewing about that watch battery

I have read that a battery change for the skywalker cost at least 70 brit coins and can go up for more even sometimes they ''must send the watch to the swatch group'' because the watchmakers don't have the technology and tools to change it

>YFW you read you can order a fucking battery for 2 coins on internet

>YFW you see a fucking astronaut repairing one at gravity 0 with simple tools and nothing looks complicated and the battery looks normal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkwTVxdE23A

Why the fuck is OMEGA so greedy?, they milk the speedmaster increasing its price but not its specs, they sell a fucking quartz watch for 5k and then they say the battery must be changed by pros at a high cost.

''The watch of the astronauts'', and then the fucking russians went to space with cheap watches and in modern times with watches that cost half of the speedmaster, and fucking cheap gshocks.

Ordered this green sailcloth strap for my field mod, I dig it- I'd considered a khaki canvas band but that would have made it look too much like a Seiko 5. Nothing wrong with that, but I wanted it to look more distinct.

I saw somebody ask me if modding is difficult and where I learned in the last thread- it's not particularly difficult. It can be tedious, but it's pretty straightforward if you're patient. I learned from YouTube, there's some good resources there. If anybody's interested in modding I'd recommend starting with Seiko's (SKX or 5's are best to mod), there's an abundance of third party swag available and they're inexpensive and easy to work with. Don't cheap out on hand setting tools, the presses are garbage unless you've got a couple hundred and you'll drive yourself mad trying to get them placed.

Here's my next mod btw, an absolutely disgusting, shameless Radiomir rip-off. Kind of excited for this one, I went with vintage aesthetics for the case, sandwich dial, and hands. Seagull ST-36 mechanical movement.

I'm planning on making a set of stitched natty veg tan straps for this one, kinda want to toss them in mud and beat the shit out of them so they'll match the watch's patinated/aged look.

it's not going to be too big for your wrist. the turtle looks big because of the cushion case but the cushion case design is naturally very comfortable. the samurai has extreme sloping lugs so it actually hugs the wrist very well. comfortable, looks much smaller than it seems and wears very well in a different way. it's one of the last watches you have to worry about looking too big, unless you have a literal woman wrist.
the turtle is more fun, casual, and vintage. the samurai is more youthful, industrial, and aggressive. I like both although I lean towards the turtle myself.

I like the depth of this watch. Looking at it up close, there’s a lot of dimensional features to appreciate. The bright and thick lume lines for each number and all 3 hands is my favourite aspect.

It runs slightly fast however, gains about 5 minutes a week.

Bremont is built on some meme heritage, but their watches are highly rated against magnetism and extreme g-forces. Their pricing also suffers of meme tax. Other options are Damasko or Sinn chronos, but if you want the ultimate pilot bling flex, Breitling or some Rolex are the way to go. Practically, a citizen solar would be a good choice, but seeing as any cockpit has a more accurate time readout and you are extremely unlikely to use your watch to calculate fuel and shit, I would probably omit the overcomplicated dials and go for max bling or max legibility.

old news, but

>John Mayer, the American musician who collects watches and sometimes shares photos of them on his Instagram account, has recently made headlines along with watch dealer Robert Maron. Since 2007, Mayer had spent about US$5 million with Maron. Mayer, in a complaint filed in a California court, alleges that US$656,000 of vintage Rolex watches he bought from Maron were counterfeit or had counterfeit parts. He discovered this after sending the watches back to Rolex, which rendered the counterfeit verdict.

--
fast forward 1 year
--

>John Mayer has dropped his lawsuit against Robert Maron, a Los Angeles-based watch dealer, filed in 2012 over vintage Rolex watches Mayer bought from Maron.

>Just a few days ago, celebrity news site TMZ reported that Mayer had dropped the suit against Maron.

>Mayer and Maron issued a joint statement with Mayer dropping legal action. The statement reads, “Two years of research restored John Mayer’s belief that Bob Maron is an expert on Rolex watches, and confirmed that Bob Maron never sold him a counterfeit watch.” Furthermore, the statement notes “no money or property changed hands”.

>The market for vintage Rolex often boils down to one dealer’s word against another’s, which can leave nagging doubts that never go away, leading to situation like the one Mr Mayer found himself in. It is difficult, perhaps impossible, to establish absolute certainty since Rolex itself, which should be the ultimate arbiter of authenticity, cannot or does not want to do so. Rolex can’t authenticate the very details collectors pursue, like dial variants and bezel types, which is one reason why a lawsuit would have been hard to win.

wtf??? so Rolex themselves cannot authenticate their own watches?

>Vintage Rolex is a field particularly susceptible to allegations of skulduggery, not just because enormous amounts of money are being thrown around. For one, the watches themselves are intrinsically simple, inexpensively made timepieces. At the time they were produced, what are highly desirable vintage Rolex sports watches and chronographs were generally entry to mid-range timepieces that were the choice of sportsmen, military personnel and the like.

>Reproducing or modifying something that was uncomplicated to begin with is a correspondingly uncomplicated task. And the second reason is the lack of an officially sanctioned body of knowledge. Rolex itself never comments publicly on its vintage timepieces, leading to talk that it lacks detailed records of what it made. Though Rolex does authenticate its vintage timepieces, there is vigorous debate amongst collectors on how much stock to put in that.

>And Rolex sometimes replaces components in vintage timepieces with similar looking but newly manufactured parts, which adds to the confusion. The result is that the expertise in the vintage Rolex market is largely and closely held by dealers and to a lesser extent, auction houses. This gives rise to a self-evident conflict of interest. And it is illustrative that even vintage watch dealers get into spats between themselves over authenticity.

don't get a striped nato. the specific watch you are talking about has a complex dial. when the watch has complex coloring or something, having a loud strap on top of that is garish and takes away from it. not to mention samurais hug the wrist so a nato makes it less comfortable and increases bulk.
get a nice black rubber strap for versatility and to let the watch speak for itself.

Ok, give it to me straight: should I look at anything else besides a Rolex Datejust if I want a watch that just werks everywhere, is a sports watch but still looks classy? Similar price range of course, if I was loaded I'd probably buy the 37 mm Royal Oak.

most rubber straps you find now are silicon. flexible, comfortable, but lint will stick to them. natural rubber is more upmarket. bonetto cinturini, which sells on Amazon, makes a good rubber strap. supple, vanilla scented, durable and most are classy. Every brand suffers from the same. Trying to keep track of every single component and how those components were made for these companies that are sometimes over a century old is not easy.

Omega for example literally didn’t know how to accurately rebuild the Cal 321 that moon watches used. They had to use lasers to scan vintage speedmasters in order to build new movements.

The anon who posted the Tag earlier himself said his watch was returned from the company and denied service because “they couldn’t find the parts”.

It’s more common than you think.

the fact that they dont even list what is their movement inside means its probably less than $3

big alarm bells are "gold tone" (even $40 chinese watches have stainless steel) and " mock-alligator pattern" (actually means its the lowest quality leather--not a crime in itself but keep in mind straps like this go for $10 on aliexpress)

the butterfly buckle is probably there so the strap doesnt just shit itself and crack into pieces, it places far less stress on the strap than a more common tang buckle
