This has to be the stupidest fucking tradition ever.
Either start making all your suits with a single button, or fix the two button suits to fit properly when you do them up.

So fashion has always been a bit retarded...

Good news is only people into suits and autists would even know this rule and care about it.

>fat dude too fat to button his jacket
>retards copy him
>the trend continues forever

Yes it's stupid and I tend to find it best if an autist ever does try and show how "educated" he is telling you that you shouldn't button up both, ask him why he thinks it's a good idea to follow a "rule" that was just because an obese dude couldn't button up. Wait for his reply.

>>15277490
I think the story with the king is cool, but to have this trend continued and embedded as the standard way is just idiotic.

An smug autist actually did try to “school” me about leaving the button undone. I just couldn’t bother explaining to him.

I don't think the story is cool, if it was an actual cool story, then I could work with that but he was just obese. What's cool about an obese guy who can't even button up his jacket. Some people who push the rule just think it's tradition and don't even know where it comes from and when they do or if they do, it seems like a really dumb reason to still do it now.

To me it looks sloppy, both buttons make it sit better to the body and look better, and if you want to be practical, it's less stress on 1 button and less likely it will come loose.

The cool thing wasn’t the fat retard that couldn’t button his suit. The cool thing was how they decided to honor him by imitating.

Yes, it does look sloppy, annoys me and brings out my autism.

>The cool thing was how they decided to honor him by imitating.

Is that what happened though? I thought it was a case of just copying him because they thought he was doing it for style reasons or something.

I will always double button, or no button!

let me give you one more, for your autism.
you ever seen a trench coat or a pea coat buttoned up to the throat?
that's what lapels are "supposed" to do, they're supposed to fold over and complete the front of your jacket up to the collar.

OP is clueless, you don't button the bottom button up because it fucks with the silhouette of the suit when you are wearing it and it would look weird i there wasn't a button there, not all suits are 2 button either.

I usually don't like rules in fashion but this is one i support 100% it just looks more stylish.

I have taken to liking higher buttoning stances, and even three-button suits and jackets, over the last few years, though most of mine are still two-button jackets.

They were cut to accommodate the trend, and we've generally persisted in cutting jackets that fall incorrectly when fully buttoned.

They are timeless and will always look good especially with a ticket pocket, i have a tailored 3 button suit from 1971 and it blows most modern suits out of the water.

A sport coat should also be able to button shut.
This outdoors wind protection is what makes it a sporting jacket in the first place.

>> No.15278329

Modern jackets are designed to have only the top button buttoned. If you button the lower one, it will look sloppy due to how little fabric there is around that area.
I do agree that we may see a trend of having both buttons buttoned in the future, and you are welcome to be a trend-setter in that regard. 3 button jackets are sometimes worn with all of the buttoned, and 4 buttoned ones are always worn like that, so you may want to look into that.
