If you are that unconfortable, try finding someone working in a private studio. Now I haven't been to parlors, I ended up in a private studio from the get go. Occasionally another guy would pop in and talk a few minutes and be back to doing their own work next door, would imagine its kinda similar to a parlor. Its cool too, they will not bother you, they dont care about you, but will discuss your tattoo, maybe ask the basic questions. Tattoo artist here. We honestly don't want to make painful small talk any more than you do, and we see so much dumb shit that it hardly phases us any more. We will make conversation as long as you continue to do the same but the majority of us can pick up on the social cues of those who don't want to talk. For some people it's hard to carry on a conversation while they are being tattooed and for others it is something that helps distract them but we can usually distinguish the difference. Either way we'd probably rather just concentrate on our work if we have a choice in the matter. Don't be anxious or intimidated. Most tattooers are just pretentious douchebags because they get their ego fed on the daily.

While I may have lucked out, just try not to worry about it anon. The only way to combat this shit is to force yourself to try to talk to people. and Tattoo artists are incredibly well versed in talking to all sorts of people. You can try to do a little research into what the stuff he usually draws, and maybe try to talk about it some. like if they do a lot of a theme in their portfolio comment on it, or how they decided to tattoo in whatever style they do. My last tattoo was 2-3 hours or so, and I simply asked stuff like what made them get into tattooing and how they became a traditional tattooer, etc. just try not to think about it too much and I promise it will be okay :) Practice makes perfect

The skin on side of the finger is identical to the one on the palm. If you want such tattoo to hold, you have to hammer it really deep, which results in bold and somewhat blurry lines, as you're looking at the ink through the thicker layer of skin than normal tattoos. Search healed palm tattoos, that's how it will end up looking. As such, simple designs with no details are the only ones to withstand such procedure.
