I really am trying but until we get the blood results back, there is no point in fretting. The abnormality in the ECG could be anxiety caused by worrying over chest pain for example, right??

>> No.15266502

Chest pain could also just be acid reflux/GERD. I have GERD, and when it gets really bad, I get pain in my chest, right behind my sternum. Genuine question. To those that like it, why? I’m not criticising, I do enjoy it, but it’s just “nice”, I don’t consider it a masterpiece or anything, and yet there are some that absolutely adore it.

That is true, well for the majority of the time she is ok, like by that 99% I'd say.
And as I said before, no need to get worked up when the diagnosis and treatment for angina could very well be accurate and these additional tests are a case of "better safe than sorry"
Getting back on track frag wise, I have a bad habit of buying cheaper/discounted frags that have some credibilty or appeal to them (Paco PH, CK Escape, Body Kouros etc instead of buying cheap shit like Police or Beckham)
So in order to cheer myself up I was thinking of grabbing a bottle of either Azzaro PH or CK Obsession since they're in the price range where sampling isn't worth it compared to just blind buying for £20 or whatever it is.

Fahrenheit has been fucked up by IFRA and bad reformulations for years. I don't like the newer formulations of Fahrenheit, it feels empty like an unfinished fragrance in a lower concentration. I prefer Aqua Fahrenheit wich fills the emptiness with a juicy orange note and it's quite redundant to have both bottles, Fahrenheit it's light enough to be worn in a summer day. Fahrenheit Cologne it's more a Jeremy Tier air freshner, and it's definitely a thot pleaser. If you want a more leather/petrol oriented designer fragrance, I recommend Gucci Absolute that have engine oil and grass vibe.

>> No.15266724

>>15266546
To me, nothing else gives the same feeling. It has a floral fresh and ever so slightly sweet fougere kind of feeling juxtaposed against that industrial tar, vaporous and bitter citrus and violet leaf. There's also that chamomile which adds a rare kind of exotic soapiness. Fahrenheit gives vivid images of insects chirping loudly during a heatwave with lawnmowers going off in every direction, and it's so hot out that the electricity is out too. Incidentally these sorts of fever dream summer days haven't really existed since the late 90s.

Have you ever given it a full wearing of 4-5 sprays and gone on with your day as usual? You're missing some of the experience if you haven't.

>> No.15266740

>>15266720
I've got a late era planet box vintage from the late 90s, and a 2018 bottle of Fahrenheit. Yes they're slightly different, but I'd say current Fahrenheit is definitely stronger and more complex. My vintage is washed out and fades quicker, which just goes to show you that it's not worth it to try to seek out vintage unicorns. I wont be getting another vintage Fahrenheit when mine runs out, and my current 2018 is running low as well so I'm keen to try a 2019 or 2020 bottling.

I'd say its fairly good. Not to start chypre arguments here but, its obviously a chypre. The thai-eque opening isn't really to my taste, but the heart has a fairly punchy jasmine over a soft fuzzy oakmoss. If you aren't familiar with nitromusks (they fell out of use from roughly the late 80's onwards) they give a billowy volume to the scent, and they have a contrasting animalic/clean tone to them. The bergamot part of the opening I like once the strange thai twist fades. As it dries down it becomes a bit more animalic with a civet touch that works pretty well with the nitromusks, and you have a sweet earthy touch of labdanum too. I do love me a good chypre, but my nitpicks with this one is the thai twist, and the fact that it is an eau de toilette and at first is a bit more screechy than what I am used to, but then again the chypres I have enjoyed have been extrait concentration. I think there was an extrait version of this planned but there was some issue that made it pre-order only or something.

I have yet to try the OG Eau Sauvage out of concerns for it only projecting for half an hour and being a waste, since it wouldn't even last a work shift. Granted where I work I'll have a new boss so I don't know their policy on frags. I was wearing 2 sprays of stuff like Platinum Egoiste, ADG Profumo and L'homme Ultime under my shirt and was still pulling in a fair bit of tip money. Not one complaint from any customers in the 2 years I've been working there.

Its meh. You can tell that the guy is an amateur perfumer by rough edges of it. If you want to see how a real oak moss bomb smells like I guess buying a sample is a good idea but it’s not bottle worthy for me. That being said the opening with bergamot repacked with kaffir lime is an interesting idea and I can give the guy credit for it.

I checked my local notino and EVERYTHING is out of stock. I'd say it's a bug or something like that, because it's kinda impossible for it all to go out of stock like that. Webdev talk: maybe they have a cached website with everything out of stock (so you can't buy anything) that they redirect traffic to when their servers are down. Instead of a 503-Server Down error, you get to see the normal page, you just can't order. Makes more sense from a marketing point of view.

Also, check again, it's only when browsing the list that it says out of stock. If you click on a product, you'll see the actual price and you can order it, even if it said out of stock. So yeah, just a bug.

Just move on. I got a 2011 bottle of Lhomme and it’s reallt snice but I would never pay what people are asking for vintage bottles these days. That’s still quite shitty performing basic scent. For this kind of money you can get so many snice things really that what’s the point of hunting vintages of a designer blockbuster fragrances lol.

Wheres the layton fag? I tried it thanks to your shilling. It is pretty snice and I understand why you shill it so much. I'm digging the tester card very much but theres no way I would pay $320 for a bottle of it. It's really not special enough for that kind of cash, maybe for 200-250 AUD I would get it. Though I could see myself buying a 5/10 ml decant for $19/$32 and using it for special occasions.

Also tried YSL Jazz. I think I'm in love with this thing, its like a toned down and actually wearable Kouros. I'm really enjoying it. It's weird cause I haven't enjoyed other 80s musky, soapy frags but I'm clicking with this a lot.

Real talk: PdM makes some decent scents, but that’s all they are: decent. If they were 80.00-100.00, sure, but what they charge for their stuff is nuts. I know it’s a meme, but they are basically a clone house, and paying 300% markup for slightly fancier versions of airport duty free scents is dumb. There’s a reason all these YouTube talking heads shill their shit constantly. They’re braindead dumb-reach normie frags and it’s easy to convince pajeets that they’re super special because they’re pricy (that and they get paid). If you actually paid anywhere near retail (or even grey market prices) for Layton, you’re a mark and you just got fleeced. There’s really no other way to say it.

There’s an initial dryness, it reminds me of Tobacco Oud, but once it dries for a few second it has this utterly gorgeous cherry. But it’s not like a sharp cherry, it reminds me of something like a cherry enveloped in luxurious chocolate. I’m not an expert so I’m basing what I can detect on the notes but i can definitely detect the nuttiness too. I’ve only had it on a couple of minutes so we’ll see how it goes. Also, it’s hilarious how oily this is. My hand is shiny. This is already outstanding, let’s hope it continues. It also has “burning tyre” listed as a note which is pretty funny.

It's Freeway, it's still mindblowing for me how Sarah McCartney managed to make a legit hot weather scent with these notes. And by hot weather I mean that it's actually more appropriate for summer not spring but I wear it regardless. Tobacco, booze, vanilla, cannabis and what you get is a super pleasant citrus-vanilla freshie with petrol undertones. She's a genius.
>>15268695
I tried maybe 10 or so. After corona I planned to visit her at her shop at Hammersmith, London or sign up for one of her perfume making workshops.. It sounds fun and she seems to be a good sport from what I can tell from Wafts' videos. My favorites are Freeway and The Sexiest Scent on The Planet (that's also her most popular one so worth checking out). Others that I like are Shazam, Ealing Green and The Lion Cupboard. I didn't like Scenthusiasm (because I dislike orris root note) and Rome 1963 (because I hate with passion any turberose + gourmand accord) but all of them were smelling very interesting and natural. Others on my radar are The Dark Heart of Old Havana and Maxed Out. I think Hookeranon also appreciates her and has some bottles so maybe he has some complimentary view on the house. Overally great prices for what you get. McCartney in the Wafts video from OP's post even admitted that she sometimes even doesn't break even with some of her scents because she uses expensive ingredients and doesn't want to jump prices at the same time. Defo worth checking out.

Given that you liked DHI you should probably try other modern classics. Some fragrances are popular for a reason. Try Tuscan Leather, Oud Wood, Neroli Portofino, AdP Essenza, Eau Sauvage Parfum, Fahrenheit, TdH Intense Vetiver, Diptyque Philosykos, Tam Dao, Oud Palao. And this should be enough for some time. Give them each couple wears. Sometimes opinion on frags can change drastically on a full wear from what you thought of it at the first sniff. After all of that you can’t probably decide if you want to dive into niche and look for interesting personalised scents or maybe something safer that you don’t have to think about too much is the way for you.

>After all of that you can’t probably decide if you want to dive into niche and look for interesting personalised scents or maybe something safer that you don’t have to think about too much is the way for you.
For now, I only aim to have a few (maybe 6-7 bottles) designer fragrances that aren't too expensive so I can have a constant rotation. It's a bit daunting to get into niche scents because I feel like the price points are way too high for my current net worth.

A decent scent, yes, but way too overpriced. Like Creed levels of overpriced stuff save unique stuff they do like VIW and MI.

The one thing I have noticed in my 2 years of sampling and dithering over bottles/hoarding samples is that something about BDC EDP irritates me, gives me a headache. Could be the mix of grapefruit or metallic incense when its fresh out the vial.
Because I left it alone for a couple months because of this thought "I'll try it again and chuck it if I get a headache again" but no, the incense mellowed out and it was really pleasant for what it was.

Wow I thought I’m the only one here who tried. Yes it’s amazing, I’ve never smelled hay done this way. What I get is after eight mints from it. The notes are transparent and everything is blended smoothly. I sneaked in Melodie de L'Amour to the refreshed chart so there’s at least one Parfums Dusita there because it definitely is one of the most overlooked and consistently great niche houses over there. I was thinking of putting Erewan into green category but then again I’ve never seen anyone talking about Dusita here so decided not to put two frags from them to don’t make the chart too biased. Yes. I have a bottle of Oudh Infini but to be honest it's too skanky for me. I never thought I'd say that about oud, but it is distractingly so and over a day it's constantly wafting sweat.

I love all the others though. Melodie is a revelation in white florals and the tuberose is done so beautifully and uniquely. I don't think I could wear it, but it's the first time I've enjoyed a fragrance that could be described as candied floral. So glad someone has tried Erawan as well.

I've met Prissana and she's incredibly accommodating to strangers she's met the first time. We spent hours chatting away in her quiet Parisian boutique and she gossiped about the fragrance world and her thoughts on what people say about her creations on forums. I'm from earlier in the thread talking about Colonia and Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017. I blind bought it because I mistakenly thought it was just a beefier version of the EDT, but I will probably keep it even after I my new bottle of the EDT arrives. To me it's like a very creamy orange blossom powder, the kind of smell that fills your nostrils and stays there for a while. Very "thick" smelling, but not necessarily in a bad way. I will mostly keep it for formal settings/events; I tried wearing it during some workouts and the smell somehow bothered me during intense sprints, like it was too much and made me a little woozy. YMMV, and besides it could very easily be the case that I just applied too much, given the physical activity I was partaking in. I do still plan to try decanting it into a little splash bottle or vial so I can really only put a tiny amount on, if I want.

renaissance is like snorting a line of lemon powdered sugar. Its enjoyable and the dry down is nice, but it needs hot weather. No one should think its a dominant mint anything, the creamy musky drydown is where its at. Im still digesting the roma, seems pretty fem, a perfumey rose and some skank patch. Its kind of 2d and not screaming buy a bottle to me yet.

>Kostas coked up out of his mind
He's always like this and it makes visiting the Xerjoff store... uncomfortable. For what it's worth, I don't have a particular fondness for any of their fragrances besides Richwood, Homme and Irisss.

I don't really have any exciting stories besides meeting Pissara (I messed up the name with Prissana as another anon noticed). I spent the day visiting stores together, we met Michel-Duriez in Patou by accident as he was entering the building, and spent hours in cafes with a friend who was a student of perfumery at IPISCA. He showed us a few of his works in progress which were amazing because he had use of amazing materials. One was a rose so rich and high in concentration it smelt honest to god like onions sauce.

I like basenotes because the reviews are much more in depth and they have a great deal more interest in niche fragrances. I have just discovered and joined Parfumo in the past month which is astounding in its "Souk" trading hub- buying, selling, splits etc. It's continental Europe based too.

It's great reading a list so different from the mainstream. I had only just read about Azemour being similar to NYI (though I don't remember how this smelt) and I think I'm going to get a decant on your rec. How similar are they? Definitely going to check out the rest of your list.

Other frags I love are: Lyric Man (an earthy, rich, mushroomy rose), Epicé Marine (amazing cardamom oceany cologne), and if you're in the UK (which it seems) there is a brand called souslemanteau stocked in Harvey Nichols with Essence du Sérail, a lecherous, powdery but unimaginably 3D, dirty rose and lily of the valley affair which was what Putain de Palaces should have been. And Liberty stocks Divine, by Divine, the most accomplished classical floral orchestration possible, so perfect in its composition and smoothness it puts Joy to shame. Please do check out Papillon's Anubis and PdE's Aziyade at Senteurs as well.

It's amazing. Probably would be my signature scent if I had to choose one. I have a beautiful vintage but the modern version is indistinguishable. Tania said it best: the accord is so beautiful it's almost heartbreakingly so, like a forgotten lover. "Unbearably pretty on a boy" is how she put it, I think.

The upside of the vintage is the bottle has got to be the best I've ever owned. It casts a spectrum in the sunlight.

It's a tad cliché now, but Carnal Flower is one of those I can genuinely guarantee compliments at almost any event. It straddles the line between sexiness and politeness.

This seems to be the general consensus around Xerjoff. Very solid fragrances but not particularly striking as work of genius. For me Mefisto Gentiluomo is just the best upscale barbershop I’ve tried. I don’t expect anything extraordinarily surprising or challenging from my barbershop. Quite opposite actually, it should smell clean and make me feel sharp and confident. Mefisto Gent checks all of these boxes. I quite liked Alexandria II from other XJs but sadly have bad memories from the last time I’ve worn it so that’s a no from me. Richwood has been on my radar for quite a long time.

That’s also how I feel about basenotes but as I said I haven’t migrated there yet. Hope I’ll get used to their interface. One must admit that fragrantica has a very clean and readable interface though. Do you mainly use forums or rather the fragrantica-like part where you can have your own library of fragrances and categorise them and see what other people have there? Is the database as extensive as fragrantica or even more than that? And how does Parfumo compare to basenotes?

Azemour, NYI but also Le 3’ Homme (btw your bottle is indeed beautiful) and maybe Bois du Portugal to lesser extent all share very similar spicy-oakmossy DNA. Azemour is more Chypre leaning than NYI and also very heavily orange oriented (that’s the concept behind it). Whereas NYI opens as this beautiful zesty bergamot-pepper bomb. I think Turin will express it all better than me thus I’m attaching his review. I find NYI more similar to Caron than Azemour but thanks to god cloves in NYI are not as prominent as in Le 3’ Homme. That’s the only thing that stops me from loving Caron, this sweet-spicy vibe around it that has some skanky undertones. NYI smells way more modern and fresh to my nose but doesn’t lack any deepness at the same time. How do you like NYI yourself?

I may need to revisit it. For some reason I remember it as soapy rose scent. Very luxurious smelling soap and roses but still soap.
>Epicé Marine
This looks quite out of the box. Will check it out.
>Essence du Sérail
This is on my to-test list but I can’t recall how I stumbled upon it. Perhaps some blog. You bumped my interest.
>Papillons
I’ve had a full sample set from them. Very good house and the quality is there. Salome is probably the most standing out from their line and I remember that on my skin it was way skankier than Zoologist Hyrax and this speaks volumes. Which is quite funny because the last time in Les Senteurs I was minding my business and a beautiful rich Russian girl entered the shop in a shiny Moncler jacket and I was 100% sure that she’s going to splurge some obscene amounts od money on Creeds but instead she went to Papillon shelf and was very bummed that there was no Salome on stock which is her favourite (apparently the lady behind the house decided to discontinue this one because she couldn’t source similar enough ingredients to recreate the scent in a newborn batch). That’s something I would never imagine: a rich trophy wife of some shady businesses as most of this kind of Russian dolls in Belgravia wearing a Hyrax-Castoreum fragrance in her £30,000 Hermes Birkin bag to L’Eto coffee or wherever she goes. Mind blown. I can only imagine how does it smell on her. She ended up buying about 10 bottles of different Papillons for herself and as gifts.
From other Papillons I was a bit underwhelmed by Anubis and preferred Bengale Rouge to it as the resin-centric one. Tobacco Rose is such a beautiful classic rose composition too but too feminibe for me to wear.
>Aziyade
I haven’t actually tried this one last time I visited Les Senteurs but I’m overall impressed with this house (Cuir Ottoman and Ambre Russe are brilliant), so will do. Thanks for your posts and recommendations.

i tried a bunch of stuff today. i tried mancera aoud violet cause i love violet but it didnt click with me. Maybe it'd be different if i sprayed it on me? I tried aramis and thought it was actually alright but i'm too young to wear it. very spicy at the beginning as well but it disappears pretty much straight away and becomes nice and floral. I tried LDLNH and a clone, Ted Lapidus Poker Face. LDLNH is so nice but the performance kills it. Poker Face was a big surprise for its $30 price tag and its comparisons to LDLNH are deserved but its dry down exposes its price, despite it still being pretty nice. I'm pretty sure it performs better than LDLNH. Poker Face is probably gonna replace MB Legend as my next dumb reach frag. I tried Montales Amber and Spices and thought it was just alright. The biggest surprise for me was Carolina Herrera for Men, it was so soft and quite floral. I should have kept the test strip for longer.

The caveat is that white flowers require quite a lot of maturity to pull them off. I’m 27 and don’t really feel like I can wear a white floral centric fragrance.

Better than the regular bottled. I like it. GF says it smells like "dad", and thus not a good thing (my gf isn't a hoe)

Personally I quite liked it. Safe, inoffensive, less "young" like bottled is. It's an early-mid 20s frag, everyday if you must, not particularly suited for any season but best between 0-15 C.

Wow, thanks for the in-depth recommendations. You really seem to know your stuff.
I just have tried NYI once upon a time in the boutique in Paris, but it's been so long I don't remember it at all. Now I want to revisit it because of Turin's ravings about it. Did you know there's a tiny little concession (the size of a person and a half) in London at South Kensington? Can't wait till it opens up so I can try it there. In fact, seeing as you're from London as well, it'd be great to have a perfume enthusiast visit around town. It's rare to find someone with similar tastes and interest in niche stuff.

It goes like this: Fragrantica for the database, Basenotes for forums and discussions, and Parfumo for the Souk. Basenotes doesn't have nearly a complete a database as the fragrantica but has a really rich, returning userbase on its forums composed of millionaires with everything in their collection, to actual perfumers, Turin, and vintage detectives.

I love your story of Les Senteurs. I haven't seen anything like that, but I've seen elderly woman come in and ask for a bottle of this, or that, and just walk out after, as if they were shopping for groceries. All the while I've been there for near an hour not having bought anything- it's a little awkward.

>Continued

For all the hype online, Bengale Rouge didn't really wow me for some reason. I got the furry, cozy effect and warmed amber-hyrax thing going on, but it was still Anubis that I obsess over. Dark, cool cardamom over incense, crisp and dripping over cumin and withered roses. It really reminds me of what the Djedi strip that they let me smell at Guerlain HQ in Paris smelt like, but more rounded and less severe in its sharpness. It's a pity about it's longevity and projection though. Salome was my second favourite.

Don't forget Cuir d'Ange. I spent years looking for the perfect leather, hunting down vintages of Cuir de Russie, Bel Ami, Cuir Cannage, Cuir Mauresque, Britannia etc when the perfect leather was right in front of us all this time in an unassuming collection of "safe stuff".

Try it in a store for sure. I wear night fragrances during day and winter fragrances during summer. As long as you don't choke everyone to death, you'll be fine. It's a mainstream frag so it tries to avoid choking people with powerful resins and the like.
