Some /out/ functions like altimeter or a steptracker would certainly be nice, but I haven't yet seen a ProTrek, G-shock, Suntoo or Garmin that comes in girls-size and/or doesn't look totally out of place in a normie setting.
Kinda tempted to just get her a BOCTOK, but I'm not sure if a mechanical makes sense for this situation. Probably some more rugged, small quartz would be best. Is there a girls version of >>15261741 ? Or should I just go for the meme Osamawatch? But we're to old to larp as edgy zoomers.

you guys have at least one fake nautilus right? you HAVE to have one even if you don't like them. i swear to god ever since I got my fake nautlius I've been getting all kinds of attention from women I otherwise never would've. obviously I can't wear the thing with the hoodie and sweatpants that I normally wear every day so I invested in the kind of business casual clothes that real nautilus owners would wear out on a weekend. since the lockdowns were lifted at i noticed at 6 people eyeing the watch. they weren't crooks or fiending to steal it, they were your average business type people and 3 attractive women in the late 20s, one of which said verbatim "omg is that a nautilus". my face got red and i diverted my eyes to the floor because i'm not used to eye contact with drop dead gorgeous blondes. i said "yeah" under my breath then got off at the next metro stop even though it wasn't my stop. i was just so overwhelmed by the attention i needed a breather. the watch has given me so much confidence in the last couple of days its unreal. i feel superhuman. i don't walk like the incel cartoon guy anymore. i unironically walk with my chest to the world. i never realized you could feel this way as a poorfag loser. a high quality fake nautilus is around 300-400 USD. its honestly worth the price considering how transformative it is. you'll nevre get called out because the high quality fakes are so good they fool everyone that doesn't have a microscope or other autistic watch-instruments like that. the display caseback is even decorated down to the smallest detail to mimic the real thing. seriously you guys, if you want to sleep with women in their mid to late 20s who are on the prowl for rich men to hunker down with before their ovaries expire then get a fake nautilus. there's an endless supply of these types of women and they literally spend their entire commutes eyeing the wrists of single men to figure out if they're rich enough to be suitable partners.

But I don't, so that's not really an option.

3D printing metals seems kind of neat too, but you can't really do 90 degree angles without a lot of surfacing, so doing anything cute like cutting out most of the material to make a super light case isn't really possible. Maybe in another decade or two.

That's not even close to how machining works. Its not a 1,2,3 process. You need to determine the why machine to use for what specific process on the part. What kind of tooling (size, shape, material, etc.) is going to allow you to cut that specific metal into the desired geometry while maintaining tolerances. How many individual setups are you going to need to make the part? Then you need to design and build all of your work holding for each process. And that just scratching the surface.

The safest way is to buy quartz on watches that have little patina, rust, or wear. Otherwise, take brands that you know can be fixed by a company that still exists and actually works on old shit. The simpler and more common the movement, the cheaper it will be to service. In other words, don't buy a co axial speedy then cry that it costs as much to fix as buying a brand new swiss shitter. Ok, lets take an example. Say you want a seamaster. Omega is one of the brands that is faked somewhat often. To find out what tends to get faked, look for a community like the replica watch subreddit and you'll see what they discuss. For example, rolex, panerai, and cartier are top candidates for fakes.

Lets say you found a seamaster you like on a place like chrono24. That can be safe if the seller is considered reputable, although it is still possible they have their hands on a fake. Lets say you see a good deal on a private seller that hasn't done much.

Look in the rep communities for reps of the specific model you have. For an omega it might look something like 233.30.41.21.01.001 and for a Panerai it might look like PAM 1110 or something. If you can't find your specific watch, you're probably safe. If you do find reps, then what you do is look for posts of people asking if their fake is close enough, and they will actually point out what is wrong. You can then use those details and try to look at the listing. Or even compare with a rep seller. If you can't tell, ask the seller for better pics. If they won't do it, then don't take the chance. I only know all this because I wanted to buy a Cartier Santos and got really paranoid. Haven't been able to use it to actually buy something yet.

>> No.15263807

On a side note, if you paid for the cheapest cartiers they don't use real gems on the crown anymore, but some cheap thing you can buy from a craft store. The only difference between the fake Santos and the really one is that it uses an eta 2824 instead of a 2892. And I decided then and there that I wouldn't even bother paying thousands for a watch that can be gotten by chinks for $300.

Big watches are in fashion, and I don't really think that anyone is going to scoff at a 40.5 among a bunch of fuckhuge divers. It's a very affordable alternative to the Max Bill, even though the Max Bill is a really sexy watch. Something that has Paraflex or Diashock for shock protection. It should also probably use Hardlex over Sapphire for glass.

Steel or hardenned titanium for the case. Water resistance should be at least 200 meters with a screwdown crown.

Trying to think of a watch that meets those requirements but don’t have one off the top of my head.

Maybe something like the Marine Master comes close to it.

I'd unironically suggest the Vostok Amphia!
I wear mine climbing, hiking, biking and during geological fieldwork and it has also seen quite a bit of salt water during holidays.
But if you're really looking at a tool watch for out purposes, you're probably better off with something purpose built for that purpose that'll also have some neat features besides telling time that actually could come in useful (and will be more robust to boot).
I'm only using my Amphibia since I'm too lazy to change the battery on my G-shock, since I want to replace that G-shock with a better one anyways, but I can't figure out which one (or which ProTrek) I actually want, or if I should go with a Suntoo or something.

Pic related is my current favorite, but I'm not sure how good the altimeter loggin actually is, since that would be the most important feature for me.

Differentfag here, hi. The Amfibia is not a bad idea, since water-resistant watches are generally also dust resistant, which can also be an issue. (sure is for photographers.) You also won't care so much about bashing a cheap russian watch as you would a fancier $500 one.

It'll also introduce you to the pain of soviet and post-soviet goods.

I just happened to notice he was wearing a Breitling Navitimer. I pointed it out and asked if he was into flying. Made some small talk (I actually really like the Superocean Heritage 2).

Anyway after that little bit of small talk we became friends (apparently there are no other watch nerds at this company...) and he ended up helping convince my manager to promote me.

Knowing about watches can come in handy in the business world. Always keep an eye out for it.

>The Amfibia is not a bad idea, since water-resistant watches are generally also dust resistant, which can also be an issue.
I would also add that it's not only water resistant, but has a screw-down crown. I imagine that 100m WR generally works well enough for about everything besides serious diving and I would assume that the water that gets into the gaskets just evaporates away over time, but I don't think dust, dirt and mud that might get in there will evaporate away. If you're dgging dirt - get a screwdown crown. Or a watch you totally don't care about. Amphibia fullfills both requirements.

I cannot think or comprehend of anything more cucked than buying an expensive watch. Honestly, think about it rationally. You are paying top dollar for a watch with a mechanical movement that ultimately performs worse than a cheap quartz movement for a few bucks. All the hard work you put into your wage cuck job - slaving away for hours on end for your boss. All of it has one simple result: lining the pockets of snake oil salesmen shilling deprecated technology known as mechanical luxury watches.

you are LITERALLY dedicating at least 20 years of your life simply to buy a premium Swiss watch to enjoy. It is the ULTIMATE AND FINAL cuck. Think about it logically.

Yeah, no. If you really want a watch that can withstand serious wet work, you need to go higher up the spec sheet than your normal WR rating. Simple fact being the watch is subjected to a lot more pressure during movement than 5 bar. The WR ratings are, in a better case, subjected to static pressure, in the worst case, just throwing a number on it based on the used gasket/securing tech.

It is a lot about luck of the draw, as well, though. I have a €50 100m shitter that has been in salty sea water and heavily chlorinated pools, and is unkillable.

I would rather trust a Casio Marlin 200m than some whatshisface meme 300+
If all else fails, it would be cheaper to replace at any rate.

tl;dr find a watch with a DIVERS depth rating if you want to use it seriously

p.s. does the case come with cum stains?

Are you the one who keeps seething about cut numerals in these threads all the time? I admit, I hate the shit out of the implication myself, but I think this one could get a pass. It is hardly visible, others (IWC Portuguese) and other higher tier marques do it a lot more vulgarly and openly. Those deserve gassing. Though I remember some anon pointing to an older gen IWC pilot chrono that had the numerals clean set.

This is a reddit meme that you are uncritically repeating when you are completely incapable of actually understanding the math or physics involved. Moving your arm under water increases pressure on the case by a meaninglessly small amount.

Hey lads, I'm looking for a starter mechanical watch that isn't too expensive (around 300 AUD). I was looking at maybe a Vostock Amphibia or even some Seiko 5 models, but I kind of want it to be hand-windable, since I don't wear a watch everyday. Second Hacking isn't too important to me but would be cool. Thanks so much watchbrahs.

Wore it for two years doing everything. Work, work on the house, in the garden, to the beach, in the sea. Just like I would wear a gshock. It's like a stainless steel countertop, the first few scratches drive you insane, after a while the whole thing is scratched and it doesn't matter anymore. It's also much more evident on pics thsn in real life desu
