I want to get into vetivers. Should I go straight into Tom Ford? How about Guerlain Vetiver, since it gets recommended a lot as a good starting point for the scent? I've also heard about Encre Noir / Sport but reviews for those suggest that it's a bit harder to wear compared to the first two.

I should say that I wouldn't ask this question at all if I could get samples for all four. I'm thinking of just blind-buying one of them because I've sampled vetiver essential oils and I really liked how they smelled.

I loved it too. It's veeeryyy similar to Jubi 25. But thanks to god doen't have this 'stale dried fruit dark chocolate' vibe that I get from Oud+Blackberry in Jubi on my skin (pic related is my last winter rotation - I had to resell Jubi for this reason). >How's Black Aoud?
It's controversial. I tried like dozens of rose+oud combos and I'm just not convinced by the western standard take on it. Tried all MFKs both EdPs and Extraits, Oud Ispahan, Oud Palao and all other memes and none of them worked for me really. They were too feminine and sweet for my nose. Is it natural? No it is not. Is it very synthetic? Yes, it's almost screeching in the first few second before it settles down. Is it nuclear? Yes it is, a friend of my sprayed it twice on himself as a joke before we went to the college gym together and he literally filled entire gym with his scent. It was just insane to smell Black Aoud from him 10 meters away once he got warm. Does it all make it bad? No, it doesn't, it gives it this daring edge that I was looking for and found in Black Aoud. I was also told many times that I smell good wearing it. Not that I care but it's probably my most complimented frag to be fair. The only western Rose+Oud that is as good in my book (but completely different at the same time) is Alexandria II by Xerjoff. Sadly my last memory of wearing it was a silly night out when I cut my hand open after punching a glass door and ended up at A&E waiting for an ASAP surgery so it's kinda ruined for me.

Also typically a good gauge if you can buy a girl something more interesting is if she's into niche skincare products etc. Girls are really impressionable when it comes to brands and marketing. It's what a lot of people fail to do with e-celebs (and especially e-thots) in general because they thrive on attention either positive or negative, its the attention that sustains them. I randomly ended up managing a hobby store for a while in my early 20's, the people were the salt of the earth but you could see how they were lost in their hobbies. They'd spend unholy amounts of money on models they would never use on the table because it was what their pride was anchored to, they'd blinkered themselves to all of the things they were incompetent at and poured all of their money and energy into the one arena where they were succeeding and where they had pull of some kind. Your old pal ScentScavenger here. Hope you guys are well. Been out of the game for a while but something big came across my desk you guys absolutely need to know. Especially you hookeranon. OG bat is re-released by the OG perfumer on her site. Go to Olympic orchids and search for “night flyer”. That’s the OG shit boys. Sell your bottle and pocket a couple hundred hookeranon and get 100ml of OG bat for like 120 or something along those lines. Apparently the story was she wanted a larger royalty. Victor said no. She said whatever it’s my Fragrance I’m just going to release it on my site with a name change. She makes it incredibly blatant its Bat. It even has a bat on the bottle. Someone put this on the next thread because I won’t be coming back to say it again but definitely get the word out for anyone who wanted to try the OG. Miss you guys. I’m still in self imposed fragrance rehab.

Ah it seemed to be a recent development but I forget how quickly information moves here. I think I’m going to ease back into Fragrance some by summer or fall. I’ve had some viewers from YouTube message my email bummed I’ve vanished. I do feel a little bad but I was bleeding too much money too quickly to keep content moving and that insatiable “just one more bottle”. I check in on slumberhouse some but Josh seems to be doing nothing as usual. Twisted lily appears to be back from closure. Zoologist reformulations and the new koala. Rhino getting reformulated so maybe I made a mistake losing that one in my purge. Apparently a new “arctic” animal is getting released but idk what the Arctic even smells like besides salt, fish, and blood. Savage place. Victor and everyone is sleeping on the potential for “ant” polarizing gourmand with picnic food notes, sweet and savory. Soil and green notes. It could be like a more edible candy bat.

Yeah, I wonder if Paul Kiler would do the same re-release under his brand that Ellen did with Bat. Luckily none of the three scents on the chopping block were favorites of mine.

I'm definitely looking forward to an Arctic scent just because it sounds hard and potentially weird. Maybe something like Soleil Neige but with musky or ambergris funkiness. Hell if they make a predator like Polar Bear or Orca they could throw some rose oxide in there ala T. Rex.

How are you faring during this whole global pandemic shit?

Yeah, if it was causing you financial issues, it’s good to step away for a bit, reevaluate why you’re doing things. Doing things you enjoy is great, but letting them take over your life is bad. Hope you can find that balance, it’d be nice to have you back.

Zootopian is doing something interesting things. I copped Sloth, love it. Not sure about Koala, I don’t love eucalyptus, and it kinda seems like it might smell like cough drops. I’ll sample it, though. Rhino wasn’t my favorite, and I actually tried it again a few days ago and it’s still not for me. Ant would be cool. The arctic animal scent sounds cool. What do you think? Orca? Walrus? Polar Bear? Penguin? Wolf? Moose? Lots of interesting choices. Guess we’ll see what they come up with.

I normally hate cumin, it smells like BO on my skin, and Sloth has a fair bit of it, so you’d think it wouldn’t be for me, but it just works. The Açai is so unusual, but it with the cumin, those weird mushroom notes, and the cozy, spicy notes just blend so well. It’s sort of like a sleepytime spiced oriental-fougere. Such a strange scent, but so addictive.

I love my sleepy boi!

I bought the set, and I wasn't impressed. ELDO frags all have the same problem for me, which is that they have a unique, conceptual opening, but completely fall apart in the drydown. Basically, the scents don't develop, but just fade after a couple hours. Maybe still worth sampling just to take in the concepts they create, but none were bottle-worthy for me.

My old post
>All I tried are as follows as far as I can recall. I'm just giving a subjective rating for how appropriate I found it for myself, so let me know if you want me to expand on any of these as all of them are excellent quality but sometimes just don't vibe with me well (e.g. I find their gourmands quite feminine).
>Acqua di Sale
9/10 (best marine frag I tried)
>Acqua e Zucchero
6/10 (a wild fruits' variation on Dulcis in Fundo theme)
>Acqua Viva
8/10
>Ambra Aurea
I was expecting an animalic monstrous ambegris bomb that will not be wearable but to my nose it's quite different than that. What I get is smooth ambery leather (ambery as in amber not ambergris). I can also get incense that together with amber gives it a bit of sweet edge and some smooth labdanum with its more powdery-leathery facets. On the way to the drawdown you can get some saltiness that suggests that there might be some abergris here too. It became my favorite amber fragrance and I'll have a hard time picking between it and Tauer LDDM. 10/10
>Antico Caruso
7/10
>Arso
9/10 (Ultra dark smoke-piney stuff)
>Audace
6/10 (idk if I really like it or hate it, tonka+vetiver is so weird)
>Dambrosia
6/10 (Heavy on figs but a bit too baroque-ish. There's too much happening here and I'm actually surprised that it's a Profumum Roma's fragrance.)
>Dulcis in Fundo
7/10 (best vanilla in the game with nuclear performance but a bit too fem if not layered with anything)
>Ichnusa
10/10
>Olibanum
10/10 fresh incense
>Orangea
9/10 (this would be 10/10 if not the unusually poor performance for PR)
>Patchouly
3/10 (I like dark stuff but it's just too much for me. This brings the darkest, most earthy and complex aspects of patchouli that one typically knows only from its sweet (often complementing rose) facets. Probably the second most gothic Profumum Roma after Arso.)
>Rosae Mundi
8/10 (the one rose+patch to rule them all)
>Sorriso
6/10 (too fem but great choc)
