15242349 No.15242349 [Reply] [Original]

This thread is about perlative ceronometers
Discussion about disposable fucking garbage, such as Omega, A.Lange & Sohne, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, etc.is strongly discouraged.
We only talk about Polex and Casio G-Shocks

These are tools and it is not uncommon to have specifications displayed on them.

Literally the most iconic and copied watch designs of all time come from Rolex.
>The limited supply to inflate their prices.
First Rolex makes far more watches than any other Swiss luxury brand. They make make more around a million watches a year. Second supply does not increase prices demand does.
>It went from being a tool watch to a watch for tools.
Rolex still makes tool watches. Their watches are better made now than at any point in history and are still capable of their original tool functions. People buy Rolex watches because they are iconic well built machines. There is such a high demand for them that people are willing to pay thousands of dollars above retail to get a hold of a used model.

A similar approach? What a black watch with a steel bezel and an orange GMT hand? The dial layout is completely different and there is actually a pretty unique design language to CW that makes it pretty recognizably different than the Rolex. The bezel is thinner and the dial is wider on the CW. The indices are much different on the CW and the way the logos and text are distributed looks nothing like the explorer 2. Those aren't slight changes, it's a completely different case shape, bezel style, and dial layout.

What do you consider to be the same design language between the two of them?

Do they have the same bezel design? No. The CW's bezel is much thinner and takes up a much smaller portion of the watch face.
Do they have the same case size/shape? No.
Do they have the same indices/dial layout? No.
Do they have the same text placement/style? No.

What do they have in common? A black dial, a steel bezel, and an orange GMT hand.

All things considered I think it's pretty obvious the CW is recognizably different.

ok /fa/gs, I'm looking for a steel watch 38-40mm, ideally between $600 and $1200. I'm undecided on overall style (I tend to skew field watch), and I've been eyeballing a sinn 556i for a while, but the more I think about it the less I like it. Any recs, or should I just save my money for an explorer.

Not him, but I wouldn't buy a sub over it even if it was the same price as the bb58. Fat maxicase lugs, no beveling on the lugs, no angled brushing on the top of the lugs (less interesting imo). I do prefer the matte texture of the bezel despite it not being as scratch resistant. Basically the bb58 is finished the way subs used to be finished.

Right. Aluminum holds up just fine. There are tons and tons of old vintage subs that don’t look beat up.

Not to mention “Adventuring” with your sub in 2020 is like playing dress-up because of how obsolete they are in that kind of setting in modern times. Any real diver would use a dive computer and any mountaineer would be using a garmin type device.

Usually it’s dudes who go snorkeling once a year at a resort in Florida and make sure to take a picture of their sub all wet.

i have honestly not seen a watch thats bezel gets that shit up besides 65 year old rolex subs that people cream their jeans over. I have an old skx that i use as a beater and the bezel is fine. Either people are extremely clumsy (we're talking complete lack of any kind of natural grace) or rolex madae really shitty aluminum bezels. Or it's a non-issue. That being said, the ceramic looks nice but lets not pretend that it is a meaningful upgrade in terms of durability any more than the white gold edged indices increase legibility.
