I've had gshocks, steel square, normal square and a king, I just use the 300m as a beater now, lifes to short. No iwc, most to big never saw a model I really liked, mk13 date window kills me, sinn watches to tooly, 556i is okay, wish it had no date as well.

Speedy is personal bro, I got that speedy before going down the watch rabbit hole, travelled the world with it, I bought it based on athletics and nasa history helped, I wanted that watch when I was broke and getting it was a mile stone for me. I do get triggered by the popular thing so it's not good, I have only saw one person with a speedy in the wild and hundreds of rolexs.

Thoughts on the Seiko 5 Sports divers that were meant to replace the SKX?

Why do SKX fanboys seethe so much when you mention them?

>> No.15240509

>>15240502
Eh it's just because they downgraded stupid shit like the lume pip and crown for no good reason. It's not a big deal to me since the rest of the watch is better but it is a little chintzy and watch people are autism

>> No.15240513

>>15240502
Retards say that they seethe because they replaced the SKX, which is a diver, with this watch which is not a diver but just has the look. There's a point to that but that's not the real reason.
The real issue is that the SKX was already a solid value watch that was getting outdated. So why not just release an upgraded SKX? New movement, sapphire crystal, interesting new dials, maybe a better bracelet. Instead we get a watch that looks like the SKX but isn't a diver, has no lumed bezel pip so it's actually less useful day to day, and it doesn't even have any small upgrades like milled clasps, sapphire, or better bezel material. It's actually just a worse watch, for more money, when they could have upgraded a watch people already like and charged more for it. You just have to ask, why did they do it the way they did?
The watches themselves are OK once you're getting them for the street prices but there's better options.

Mine syncs every night without issue despite being on my wrist, although I guess sometimes it syncs while I toss and turn so it's occasionally out by up to 3 seconds. If I take it off it's perfectly accurate every night, but within 5 seconds is good enough for me so I don't bother. My problem with regular quartz is the drift over weeks building up to being minutes off, not minor inaccuracy.

There's also the risk they pose to the structural integrity of the lug. If the lug/case design is too thin those holes can be a large enough portion of the lug that the lug can just snap off if dropped. That's one of the reasons you don't really see them on "dress divers" as often because on an only 6-8mm thick lug a 1.5mm diameter hole can be enough that it can make the case fail drop tests during qc and shock testing.

For regular divers actually intended for sports use that's much less of an issue though because of their thicker cases anyways.

What's the problem with divers? Does it bother you that there are some mechanical watches that have some actually useful aspects about them or something? If you don't like the way they look you don't need to buy them, but otherwise what's the point in having such an autistic hatred about them? Lots of dive watch people don't like Bauhaus or "Minimalism" (most of which is just lazy design rather than being tastefully conservative) but you don't see them getting all butt hurt that you like them.

The part where it connects to the watch body looks like this side on, just file down the point to the red line, and then test fit it. If it's still hard to turn through 90 degrees, just file off another half a mm or so until it turns smoothly.

Takes about 10 minutes, and leaves a mark you will never see because it's hidden by the bezel anyway.

>> No.15241516

>>15241512
I don't know why they didn't do it, honestly. I think they're trying to keep the style of G-shocks having that dumb first link that barely moves for the sake of shock protection if it's dropped from your wrist and lands clasp down, I'm guessing having a link that doesn't freely rotate somehow improves the drop resistance. But it's awful if you've got small wrists.

Personally, the look of the sticking out links didn't bother me that much, what really pissed me off was having to look at the unfinished paint job on the second link because the chinks assemble the bracelets and then coat them, leaving a thin line without a coating between each link. This is fine if the links lie pretty straight, but when they start going beyond 30 degrees or so, you see the bare metal between them and it looks cheap.

If they do a V3, I hope they get rid of the whole spring bar system and switch to proper pins. The spring bars seem pretty good, but I don't know how well they'll hold up over the years. Maybe someone will work out the ideal sizes one day to replace them all with collars and pins.

You don't have a file? They're like 5 bucks.

You can't physically turn the first link far enough to see it from the front, because it hits against the back of the case before then. But you'd need wrists as thin as a pencil to actually turn the link that far while it's on your wrist. And you can't turn it upwards and away because the bezel blocks it at the same point it's stuck at before the mod, which also means it's just as resistant as the pre-mod version to the strap somehow breaking and flinging itself backwards to crack the top of the screen. It's actually physically impossible to see the "damage" when you've got them installed, even from the back.

Newfag here. Gonna buy my first watch. Does the pastebin link cover stuff on real vs fake watches? If I were to buy something off eBay(cheap) how would I tell if it’s legit or not? Should I even buy from eBay? Sorry for not reading the link, maybe you guys have some more insight. Please and thank you

That depends on your idea of cheap. If you're looking at under $200 USD/300 AUD your best bet is probably Orient if Seiko isn't available. Orient watches tend to be fairly large but check to see how much watches like the Orient Defender/Commuter are in Australia. There's also always AliExpress Chinese specials if you're willing to be a bit patient for them to get there. If you're okay with homage watches Tisell tends to be affordable and well made if you buy from their Korean shop instead of the European one, and should be cheaper to ship to Oz than the US/Europe.

I think the Seiko 5 Sport 5KX or whatever it's called would be much better received if it had a screw down crown. If they had put in a screw down crown with an o-ring and a sapphire crystal, for 250-300, this could have raised the water resistance to 150m. At this point, it's a poor man's Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra and a great all-around sports watch that has more claim to its dive watch heritage though still not a true diver
