Seems accurate. Yeah, they also slow it down on purpose so they can make money on each step down the size chart, if you ask me.

Yeah unless you want to get one on the SS or Titanium g-shocks the 5000-1jf is the way to go. Made in Japan, almost identical to the original g-shock design. Higher quality softer resin for the band. Solid inner stainless steel case with a screwback.
If you want one of the Foxfire models look on eBay. Just be careful, lots of them are listed as foxfire by Japanese sellers when they are the regular model, be sure to check the pictures.

At what price point should a watch stop using ETA, Miyota et al.? Does this depend on the style of watch (i.e. diver, dress etc.)? If most watches are using the same movements in their dress and tool watches (e.g. ETA 2824) are both watches equally as tough to shock? If so is the only difference between a "tool watch" and a "dress watch" the styling, finishing and water tightness? Discuss.

If they are for the 5600 than get one of the new Bluetooth modules. Even if you never use it the screens look better than the older models. If it's for the 5610 models than just get whatever one you think looks good.

here's another skx mod I'm throwing together.

double dome sapphire with a pilot style bezel, lumed seigaiha pattern dial- it'll have some fifty fathoms style hands as well. I love the dial, it's not everybody's cup of tea though. straps are temporary, I made this pair but I think a set of natural veg tan straps would look much better. I've got a leather punch that would let me stamp the wave pattern into the straps, I'm not sure how it'd look however- I may stamp and then dye the straps blue, we'll see where it goes. I've got a NH36 movement on hand that I'll need to modify so the day wheel aligns properly- if I'd thought about it I probably could have just used an NE15 instead.

in real terms though they're much better than that. it's like how seiko says their tolerances are within 30s a day but in practice you get like 10 or less. The best finishing you will find on watches at any price. But it comes off as compensating for a lack of "heritage". Less prestigious than the Swiss boys but way nicer watches for the money. Solar seems completely worthless to me without atomic, because you get 10 year battery life for quartz anyway, and a new battery is only a dollar instead of 20 bucks for a replacement rechargeable.

I've found Casio quartz to be fairly poor, 30 seconds a month is typical. If you just need it for knowing the general time, it's fine, but if you want to sync it with other clocks, basic quartz sucks and radio is well worth the tiny premium.

Thanks! Lucius Atelier makes it, in case anybody's curious.

It's a double since it's thicker than your standard crystal, and domed because it's convex. I went with this specific crystal because it's meant to be paired with that bezel, the edge of the crystal isn't beveled
like most double domes so it sits completely flush with the pilot bezel. Here's a pic.

My old lady fell in love with the red grape dial Rolex. Now, she is neither the type to take care of her possessions, nor the one to wind a watch every so often. All her watches are sub-20 buck quartz fashion shitters that she almost never wears, except maybe when we go out. She is also the type to either break some shit or lose it.

So what chingchong copy do I get that has the aesthetic? Quartz, obviously, bonus points if it actually has some quality control and not the 1 buck aliwishexpress shit with 10 buck postage that falls apart in the envelope on the way over here.

>it works by putting braking action, meaning it can only slow down and not speed up
There would never be any need to speed up.
The mainspring would unwind in seconds if not for the spring drive regulator.

So long as the geartrain is still somewhat functional, spring drive will keep accurate time.
The electronics have to still work too, of course; but since there's no shit like capacitors or batteries, a spring drive's electronics should be good to last and last.

There would be a need to speed up once the usual things that happen to a mechanical. Once friction (or reduced torque from old springs) kick on, the watch will slow down below the speed it needs to go, and thus will need servicing. I'm pretty sure you're a brand ambassador and not someone that owns a spring drive, but if you get one someday please bring it in for service every now and then.

Some people enjoy watches and want don't have a tonne of disposable income to sink into their collection. I'm more of a one watch guy but some people want to build a large collection. The one other person I met irl who was into watches as much as i am was an old coworker who collected fucking casio. I don't get the hur dur >poorfag argument either because most people here hat watches above 10k, view them as poor bang for buck, consider them a bad financial decision, and claim that if one had that kind of cash they would be better off putting it toward something else. When someone posted kanye's collection everybody laughed at it just the same. Kind of starts coming off as laughing at it just to feel better about themselves.
