Lots of ways. Personal connection, aesthetics, design.

I personally feel a stronger connection to Omega than Rolex because of family reasons. My father owns two Omegas, my granduncle has an Omega. I have cousins that have Omegas, so I just lean towards the brand more.

Also you really are kinda cherry picking when you look at the De Ville line, it's really Omega's least interesting series. I'd really argue that the new Globemaster watches are definitely more interesting than a Dayjust.

No no no, you didn't get what I meant by using Ferrari specifically as the analogy towards Rolex. I used Ferrari specifically because it's the most recognizable 'fancy sports car' to non-car people. Similar to how Rolex is the most recognizable 'fancy luxury watch' to non-watch people.

I agree though, I definitely would get a Porsche over a Ferrari.

$120 USD, you should be able to find it at comparable price wherever dubious Chinese watches are sold online in Europe. Probably uses a clone NH35 from Minglong or whatever the non-Seagull Chinese movement maker is called. Their quality control is sloppy but with the increase in quality of machining parts in general in the past 20 years and the bulletproof robustness of the original design, I think there's a good chance this watch will keep time pretty well too.
I think homages are lame but having been to Shitaly recently I know where you're coming from and it would be a shame to lose your dad's watch in such a way so I hope this works out for you.

You're correct.
Slava happened to be one of the only soviet manufacturers that was allowed to produce things for export and export them.
A lot of them were sent to western countries where the USSR was trying to strengthen its soft power. In the 60s in france they became popular among leftist kids and its not uncommon to see them on flea markets here.

The others all had inscriptions in Russian cyrillic, including those designed to be exported to germany or even China. I think they even had them produced in China at some point and I wonder what they looked like there.

theres no metal that is black by default, but it kinda exists, there is black zirconium. Natural zirconium which is silver can be heated for several hours to create a layer of black oxide that is 8 on the mohs scale, you'll need sapphire or diamond to scratch it.

ive only seen it used in rings so far

the other choice is black rhodium, which is an alloy and has more of a gunmetal look to it.

Eh, if you can't afford a Rolex, why bother? Just buy a Swatch like me. There's no reason to buy a luxury watch except to show off. I look at someone with a Tudor and think . . . no, I KNOW they just cannot afford a Rolex. Don't be foolish. No one is impressed with Tudor or any other less expensive Rolex substitute. A Swatch does the trick.

>> No.15202994

>>15202993
When Tudor was established it was a cadet line of the Rolex watch. Some of the early Tudors said Rolex Tudor. Tudor is a is good watch but Rolex makes sure that Tudor is never equal or better
than the Rolex line. Price as well as quality were kept difference. Compare the two subs and you will see this right away. During the 1960 when I was young I asked a jeweler about this and he said the Tudor watches were for people who could not afford a Rolex. I never for that. So therefore. The Tudor which is a cadet line of Rolex will always be second to Rolex. As for Omega,
Vacheron Constantin and and other Swiss watches are not cadet line of another company. Today that not so much true since watch groups like swatch share technology. But Tudor started out as
at CADET line. and that mentality is still there. Just compare Rolex to Tudor.

far out man didn't know the 6r15 had issues the way everyone had a shit fit when the new cocktail time came out with a 4r youd think it was a big upgrade. id get an eco drive sport watch if i didnt have a gshock but i still want a mechanical watch. I just watch it to maximize beauty and finishing rather than larp as rugged since there are far better options out there.

Just managed to cop an Oris Carl Brashear Chrono from Chrono24. Original MSRP was $4950, but saw one pre-owned on Chrono24 for $3,000. Managed to talk it down to $2600.

Pretty happy! Should be at my home on Friday. Always really loved bronze watches

word of advice: make sure you turn the bezel a couple times a week. the problem with those bronze bezels is that as the watch oxidizes to get the patina, it can swell/fuse/rust/whatever the bezel to the case if you aren't regularly getting that shit moving. you shouldn't have to worry if you're some autist who's turning the bezel 50 times every morning while you wait for the bus, but in case you aren't...

Oh yeah, I was told that. Honestly I was considering cleaning off the patina and starting it fresh, but I kinda like the matte patina on the one I bought. Was pretty surprised to get the watch for $2600 with box+papers+ Original stainless steel buckle and nato strap.

Tho I do think Oris tends to overdo the Limited Editions (This one is out of 2000).

there are bigger brands and microbrands doing different dive watches that arent a sub copy #787833, but i assume they dont sell as well

its sad to see people stuck buying the same narrow kind of watch when theres so much variety in the world of watches. Especially if they are supposed to be "watch fans"

Lately, I’ve been loving alot of the new Diver 65s from Oris (The Momotaro collab with a jean strap looks pretty sexy). Grand Seiko is great too, but I’ve been currently looking at Hajime Asaoka (independent watch maker).

You just go on aliexpress and search for g-shock titanium. Ebay is filled with dropshipper scumbags who double the price for no reason, the funniest thing I saw was some dude selling the bezel screws at a 10x markup, I bought them in a different color for 2 bucks off ali, and they're 20 bucks on ebay for a pack of 4 tiny screws.

I'm pretty sure there's only one current model of the titanium stuff, I haven't seen any revisions. Maybe one day they'll do a DLC version, but that'd be almost impossible to find because all the chinks would just pretend they didn't have the old IP version.
