Is it worth getting minoxidil if I can't grow a full beard (I have a little bit of facial hair on the sides but nothing consistent)?

What are some side-effects to using it and what types of product should I buy?

I used minoxidil. I had weak stubble by 3 months, over time it got stronger. I've been using it for a little over a year, at one point hardly using it. I haven't lost any of the hair, and I just have a little thickening left to do. My stubble looks good, and right now since it's quarantine I'm growing it to see if I can have a beard yet. When I first started I had a weak moustache, chin hair that was strong, and a patch of hair on my left jaw. Within a few months I had full coverage, and now the only thing that isn't full is my philtrum, but it's growing in.

>>15185913
After using it the only side effects I encountered (which are also the most common side effects) were dry skin at the place of application, since alcohol is the carrier for the chemical, and I had a breakout once. On application you may feel a slight tingling burn, but it is not painful or uncomfortable. It's kind of like how aftershave feels. I wouldn't be too afraid of side effects. Most people don't experience anything besides some dry skin.

How did you apply it? If I have to do it hundreds of times I don't want it to be too much of a pain in the ass. Also, I read that when you use minoxidil for scalp regrowth, you need to keep using it to keep your hair. Is this the same for facial hair you grow with it?

I started with the 5% foam, using 1 ml twice a day, applying it directly to my face, then allowing it to dry for 4 hours before washing it off an moisturizing. After 3 months I switched to the liquid because it was cheaper and you can get more of it at the time. Once I started using the 5% liquid I started to get tired of waiting 4 hours to wash it off and moisturize, so I eventually stopped doing that, switching to waiting for 30 minutes to pass so it would fully dry on my face, and then applying moisturizer on top of the same area, being careful not to spread it above my target area. I eventually stopped using it twice a day 10 hours apart like it's recommended, and started to use it once a day in the morning, and then washing it off later. I have yet to completely stop using it, but all people who have used it for an extended period have the same thing to say about losing your hair afterwards, the only reason you lose the hair on your head when you don't use it is because you are balding, so you just start balding again without it. But since you aren't balding on your face, the only way you will lose your hair is if you do not allow the hair follicle to fully mature from the vellus or transitional state into the terminal state. If you look at the included picture you'll see that the vellus hairs are normally the thin colorless hairs on your face, but minoxidil will force those hairs to grow, and they will become longer, thicker, and darker over time. So in order to not lose the hair all you have to do is use minoxidil until all or the majority of your hair is terminal, meaning dark and thick, instead of the thin and faint hairs that you will see first. Going from no hair to full thick hair can take anywhere from 6 months - 2 years of consistent usage. Most people take about a year. If I quit today I would likely keep almost all of the hair that I gained, but I have a few places with hairs that aren't terminal yet, so I'll be continuing to use it.

If I didn't get lazy with my application I'd probably be completely done at the 1 year mark. But I started using it once every few weeks at one point, and I did not lose any hair. But I picked it back up for daily usage and have now been using it for probably a total time of 1 year and 3 months. Application with the liquid is easy btw, after you wash your face just drop and spread 1 ml of it on the area which you wish for hair to grow. I personally spread it around the entire beard area to make sure there are no weak spots, even if it looks to be fully terminal in that area. I hope this all helped. Genuinely the only bad things I encountered were dry skin on the applied area and once I had a breakout. Dry skin can easily be solved by moisturizing.

I got ya breh.

Yes, it is worth it. But some extra strength 5% generic brand minoxidil like kirkland for a couple of dollars. Apply it to wear areas of your beard.

I would apply it just once per day. Dive it a few hours to soak in and then later shower etc. The most side effects you will get is itch skin, only in the place you applied it and maybe some dry skin there. Limiting to once a day will reduce this, although once a day will still likely if you have side effects result in a bit of an itch in the area.

If you are a responded and plenty of people are, once your hairs grow into the area you no longer need to apply minoxidil unlike with head hair.

That's because most people have facial hair follicles but they are simply inactive. Once they are activated (which this does) they keep on growing normally like the rest after that.

So 6 months of daily use from a $10 or less bottle with only an itchy face in the area could result in massive beard growth and improvements.

I can attest.

I had ZERO facial hair on my cheeks. The only facial hair I had was some on my chin, the sides of where a mustache would go, and a little neck beard.

Now I actually have to trim and shave regularly. I have almost even coverage all over my face and like you my philtrum is the last to come in but it's coming in now.

sure. the skin dryness is intense at first (to the point where it almost burns), but mostly disappears after a week or two.
i recommend you buy the foam and use it once a day. it it significantly less annoying to apply than the liquid and quickly dries.
i feel that this is very important because if it's annoying, you're less inclined to use it. and the number one thing that matters with this is that you apply it regularly. it's like weight loss, small steps build up over a long time period.
you will get a lot of weird in-between vellus hairs that you should be removing somehow.

This dude. The stubble on my face looked similar to the picture you posted around 6 months, but it had some weaker areas. For example my neck responded faster than my cheeks, so my cheeks were a little less tightly grouped, and my neck was very thick. For this reason I kept everything very short until about 7 months, which is when I kept everything at a short or longer stubble length. I'm not sure if my cheeks are 100% done, as I have Mediterranean and African genes, so my hair is a little wavy/curly on my face. I've never let ot grow long enough to be a real beard, so I'm excited to see how it looks. To me it looks like all hair follicles on my cheeks are fully developed, and I just have a little to go on my soul patch, some stray hairs lagging on my moustache, and my philtrum is coming very slow, but I can see what seems to be vellus hairs growing there. Would post a pic but I'm in bed, so maybe tomorrow. I used the Kirkland brand, the foam was more convenient, but I wanted to do it for as cheap as possible so I switched to the liquid, they both work well, but if you were growing the hair and applying minox, the liquid would be easier. You can put the dropper directly to your skin instead of trying to put foam in between hairs. Hope I helped, just remember not to get your face wet until 4 hours have passed since the time of application ( I used to get water on my upper lip whenever I drank, especially on the philtrum, which is probably why it is growing slower. I've been more careful now.)

based retard

literally all minoxidil does is increase the blood supply to your follicles, which theoretically means dormant hairs can be activated

minox wont give you a beard if you dont have the genetics for one but it will give you one if you do, all it really does is fast forward the process, rather than the hairs slowly gaining consistent blood supplies throughout your 20s, 30s and 40s, you just activate them all faster and earlier on

Retard is sufficient.

Everything that follows however is spot on. Genetics is key. Anyone who says otherwise is intentionally spreading misinformation.
