The only thing they have left to identify each other is the look. Every subculture has gone through different style periods. Think about it like paint: they each start off as a vibrant purity, but mix too many and it becomes a muddy brown color and the individual colors are irrevocable.

Subcultures like goth used to mean specific ways of dress always in partnership with a matching way of life. The commodification of the looks of these groups and disconnecting them from the lifestyles they represented has dissolved the idea of subculture forever. Subcultures existed until the 2000s. The last real one was probably myspace scene/emo. No kind of alternative dress is attached to any kind of lifestyle anymore and therefore GOTH NO LONGER EXISTS. No one in this thread will find what they are looking for.

Its just the flow of culture, so gate keeping or trying to justify someone wearing black is goth doesn't matter. Just enjoy the shows, people, and style for what it was and is.
