My experience is this:

Neroli Portofino. Beautiful fragrance, perfectly unisex. Poor performance. Get Ferrari Bright Neroli instead. It’s not as nice, but it’s 20 times cheaper, and NP isn’t 20 times better.

Mandarino. I’ve not tested it as much as NP but it’s similar in terms of its inoffensive unisex appeal. Very poor performance, and for the price it’s unforgivable.

Soleil Blanc. I think it leans quite feminine, performance is mediocre at best. However, I recommend trying Eau de Soleil Blanc. To me the drydown is more masculine (but still leans feminine), performs similarly and has the added bonus of being much cheaper.

In summary, if you insist on a full price PB then go for NP. If you want something different for much less, try Eau de Soleil Blanc. Mandarino Di Amalfi, I wouldn’t bother, as nice as it is. The price is in no way justifiable. And I say this as somebody with five PB and four Signature line fragrances.

I tend to stick to designer stuff for the summer because, as I said, it’s hard to justify lots of money on poor performing fragrances. Also, I’m in England so your summer may vary. Nevertheless...

My first fragrance was Versace Pour Homme. Very safe, a bit generic, but it’s a workhorse. I think I’ll always have a bottle on my shelf.

For scorching hot days Dior Homme Cologne works a treat. Surprisingly good performance and makes you smell like a big, icy glass of lemonade. Or floor cleaner depending on who you ask.

Bright Neroli and Nautica Voyage are both very cheap and if you don’t know what to wear these work well.

Acqua Di Parma Colonia Essenza and Dior Eau Sauvage are good options for something a little more sophisticated, although Colonia Essenza beats a Eau Sauvage in terms of performance, no contest. Probably not one you’d wear to a beach, but if you got for meals or want something pleasant for indoors.

The most unique summer scent I have is Ginepro Di Sardegna, which was recommended by somebody here to me and although it’s not safe for the high heat, I have nothing else like it. Most things in the Blu Mediterraneo line are worth looking in to.

I also enjoy Mugler Cologne and Prada L’Homme a lot for fresh, soapy fragrances, although Prada L’Homme can become a little cloying if it’s too hot.

Acqua Di Gio Profumo is good for cooler summer evenings, likewise Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme.

As I said, mostly designer stuff, but I enjoy all of those immensely and wouldn’t mind adding Eau De Soleil Blanc to my collection.

You get a judgement against you by paypal. I made a new ebay account probably 3 years ago and tried to link my info, and they wanted a settlement of 45 or 75 or something for the chargeoff. I didnt pay it, and about 6 months ago I opened a paypal account, and nothing happened, and I use it still today. So idk, paypal is fine but paypal on the ebay account might be fucked. so....I just bought some samples for the most APROACHABLE niche frags out there...

aventus
eros
guerlain ideal
ultra male
YSL la nuit
paco rabanne 1 million

overall I wasnt very impressed. they feel too approachable and arent risky enough...meaning they are probably just geared for the masses and the distributors just care about money.

that being said...can someone recommend 5 different scents that are COMPLETELY different and risky?

i like PR invictus and legend, and Im pretty sure I want to get a TF oud wood sample so...
now, I just need something from each fragrance groups:

fresh
floral
oriental
gourmand
fougere

also, I want to try dior homme, as well as some other long-lasting parfums

any help?

id like to try davidoff cool water, and varvatos and some other frgrances that say im not worried about offending anybody

those arent walmart-tier. if u shop at walmart, you
tend to think that $30 for cologne is expensive
eros is $35 for 3.4 oz and thats at a HUGE discount from retail

guerlain ideal may be the cheapest ive seen it listed for $20 for 50ml but that could just be because of the drama with the owner of the company

ultra male will be at least $50 for a full size bottle.

la nuit de lhomme is at least $50 for 100 ml but the vintage batch is like $450 for a 200ml on EBAY of all places

>>15099077
paco rabanne is one of the more mainstream ones, which it was alright, but I can see why they like it.

so, sorry for saying niche...what I meant was these are more high dollar popular frags among the community, which is also why I dont really care for them as much.

they are basically the "nike zoom fly knit" or the "yeezys" of fragrances...just WAY too trendy for me, even though I realize they are better than nothing...in fact, I would probably bathe myself in stetson grey flannel or old spice aftershave rather than shell out 3 times as much (or even 30 times as much for creed scents)

I guess I like stuff more like guerlain, jaguar pace, bentley intense, because of the price point, but if im spending more, I want things that last longer, are more round, and obviously way more bold.

again, sorry for saying niche when I really meant designer

Immediately upon entering, you notice that a bunch of sweaty men are fucking on a bed shaped like a giant martini glass covered with sequins. YMCA is playing on a loop on the room’s sound system, a disco ball hangs from the ceiling, a large TV displays episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It’s not non-advice, you’re coming in here, using the wrong words, misclassifying and misrepresenting things, if you’re seriously interested in this hobby, you need to know that what you think now is factually incorrect. It’s like going into a luxury car thread and posting about your Honda Civic and genuinely believing that it’s a luxury car. I’m not trying to be mean here, you just really have no idea what you’re talking about here.

My advice is if you want something more unique, you’re either going to have to be willing to shell out for real high dollar frags, or try some older scents that people don’t really wear much anymore like Kouros, Drakkar Noir, some Guerlains, Terre D’Hermes, etc.

If you’re interested in actual niche frags, go to a high-end department store and take a sniff of some of the high-end brands. Get an idea of what you like and what you don’t in terms of genres, notes, etc. From there, you can go on sites like luckyscent and order samples of scents that interest you. It’s all about building knowledge. In order to find something you like, you need to know what you like, and that comes from experimentation. You try stuff, you learn what sort of notes you like, then you can determine from looking at a scent’s notes if it’s something you’ll likely like or not.

I DO appreciate your honesty abrasiveness, i am a noob, but am willing to learn
for me, the whole thing is about nostalgia...i have scents from my childhood that just feel familar...
my grandmas basement laundry room
the damp brick and the burnt dryer motor with the fresh linen smell.

or your dad's leather motorcycle jacket

the super popular scents just make me sick and are too boring...they are made to be liked by many people, and feel they are afraid to take a chance
>>15099270

>>15099277
the first thing said is that he used samples and even so. $50 is a lot of money. you think warren buffet got rich by not watching their spending? no, thats why they are rich

>> No.15099288

>>15099281
If you’re looking for things like that, you’re probably going to want to go niche. There are designer scents with leather, but it’s usually mixed with something sweet. Same with fresh laundry scents, plenty of airy, citric, aldehyllic designer scents, but again, but I take it you’re looking for something a little more complex than the typical fresh linen smell.

Like I said, best bet is to just go try some things. Maybe start with some entry-level quasi-niche frags like Creed and Tom Ford and go from there. Once you get an idea what notes you like, you can go on fragrantica and use their “search by notes” function. Keep in mind, that chart is quite outdated and we’re in the process of updating it, so don’t take it as gospel.

There's some companies that sell sample kits rather cheap, where you can get a bunch of 2ml's from them, some are pretty good deals. Niche houses with cheap sample sets, off the top of my head:
Maison Francis Kurkdjian
Etat Libre d'Orange
Naomi Goodsir (very cheap sample set, highly recommended, she's got weird stuff)
Histoires des Parfums (great house, and you can sample 10 of their frags for $20).

If you can find some Frederic Malle near you, I suggest you go try them out. Their sample set is $70, expensive but so worth it. But they also sell 3 samples for $15, I believe.

Didn't know there was an AA poster in here. I returned to /frag/ because of corona. I posted about AA a few times long ago. Great value line. I got samples of Pamplelune and Mandarin Basilic for my gf but neither were home runs for either of us. I still want to try more of the line out to see if there's something that sticks out

I was just going to post about this! I came down with a "cold" this week, and I live in NYC, the epicenter of the US. On Monday I was running a 100.5 F fever. I don't really have a runny nose, and my cough has been barely a tickle, but dry. I've also been having some aches.

Long story short, just a few minutes ago I put on some Fahrenheit, and I couldn't smell anything! I put my nose right to wear I sprayed it, and nothing but faint sweetness. I sprayed on some Prada L'homme, and same story. Finally, I sprayed on some Eros, and although it's what I can smell the most, I can only get the faintest sweetness and green apple. Eros is fucking nuclear and usually one spray gases out my room. Does this fucking confirm that I have COVID-19? Before schools closed here, I was commuting Monday to Friday from Brooklyn to Harlem 1.5 hours away. I must have fucking caught it.

There's like no chance of getting a test. I'm 24, haven't travelled outside of the US, and in any other situation my cold would be a nothing burger. Also if I go to a hospital or testing center, I could catch the real virus while waiting to get swabbed.

My collection would just take up a lot of your space with memes.

Full bottles:
Prada L'homme, Eros, Burberry London, Versace Man (OG, not eau fraiche), Versace The Dreamer, Dior Homme EDT, Black Orchid

Samples:
Fahrenheit, BdC EDP, Antaeus, Cafe Rose, Pure Tonka, Le 3' homme de Caron, Espresso Royale, a bunch of 2ml MFKs, CK be, Clinique Happy (crappy female frag, but my ex online gf sent it to me and I wanted to know what she smells like), and some Sephora samples of By The Fireplace and Prada Candy Night.

Some noteworthy ones for bad reasons: Espresso Royale was a meme I sampled because of the fragrance apprentice, it's artistically interesting, but objectively it smells bad. It smells like someone left a moka pot of bustelo brewing too long and they came back to a burnt catastrophe. Le 3' homme de Caron smells putrid. The clove really makes it the only frag that I wanted to scrub off myself.

So I meet this girl on her page, she ties her bro up for prank bondage pics (little eccentric but I'm cool with it)
Turns out she's in the UK too and we have a lot more in common than liking to tie people up.
So we chat a lot, I get all flirty, and one thing leads to another, we plan to meet up for an irl bondage session/coffee date at a city near me but college leaves her unable.
I'm ok with this. I eventually muster the courage to ask her out. She immediately says she'd "Love to!"
I'm super happy, doing well at work, confidence boosted. Save up money thanks to a promotion etc.
I invite her to come visit me over the summer for a few days, she tells me she's "not really sure"
alarm bells faintly ring but love makes me numb to the oddity of such a thing.
She ends up heading to uni and we chat less, turns out she's struggling.
She ends up ignoring my messages, yet posting more art of her "bro" tied up and gagged.
She gave me his number? Not hers? tells me to "keep things online for now"
So I'm really freaking the fuck out so I text him, play it cool and find out what the hell's going on.
he tells me "i don't have her number but can ask her for it" yet he relays questions from me to her instantly?
So I get mega drunk the day after valentine's day and with a nice dinner to up my mood I call him out on being a catfish and that I'd meet him if he were upfront cos he's clearly nice as this girl persona.
No reply until midnight. He threatens to track me down. I'm sober enough that I defuse the situation and he tells me "we're much closer than siblings."
OH FUCK.
I've outed this girl to be a cheat to her own boyfriend.
I panic and nuke the hell outta my old account, lewd pics on my stash and all.
I go to block her before deactivating, I'm that spooked and I see she's been favouriting a LOT of shota/underage drawings of young boys in kidnap situations.
So feeling disgusted by this couple, I reported it anonymously to a charity that passes on info to the cops.
