New/fa/g here. I have been using a Tissot for a couple of years now. Love it, gift from my dad. But last year I swapped the original strap (pic related) with a random leather strap since it was crumbling down. The old strap itself is not in a usable state but I still have the clasp.
The question is, I can replace the generic clasp with my original clasp using regular springbar tools, right?

No, but I've noticed it in the past when people were wearing fakes. Though my opinion is biased since I've seen the real one many times so I know exactly what it's supposed to look/feel like in my hand.
>Do they really notice?
The people that care enough about watches that they'd think what is around your watch is special? There's a good chance.
People that don't care what's around your wrist in the first place? No.

Depends on the fake obviously, some are terrible and some look identical unless inspected closely.
So if you are getting one to "flex" just don't take it off your wrist, feeling the bracelet and looking at the caseback are dead giveaways.
Like I said thots in bars and nightclubs will never notice the difference so if that's what you are going for a fake is perfect and also protects you in case you get mugged.
Also if you simply like the style but know the real deal will forever be out of reach get the fake.

After a long day at work today (where I make 200K), I was chowing down on some Michelin starred pizza this evening with my (incredibly wealthy) friends. We had a long discussion about quality timepieces and came to the conclusion that the Omega Speedmaster Professional Man on The Moon is the ultimate in haute horology and can't be matched.

On the way out (having left a generous tip) the waiter spotted my watch and everyone in the restaraunt congratulated me for my taste in watches and started to clap and cheer.

most russian stuff is chrome plated (which makes you not want to wear it for fear of scraping the chrome off) and feels like a toy. their value is so low that servicing them makes no sense.

stainless steel (or solid gold, not plated) soviet stuff is based though. parts availability is OK through ebay but there are many watches on there that have non-original parts.

you'll never get your money back from them. as long as you accept that they can be great watches.

Yeah, I was initially more interested in the US gov marked ones too, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized it’d be kinda lame to have if you didn’t actually work for the US government, and might even cause problems depending on where you travel. You can still get Marathon-made bracelets with the US great seal or USMC EGA if you still want that government look, and the watches still retain Marathon’s CAGE code on the caseback.

I owned one and quickly resold it. The case is good but the crystal looks and feels cheap. The seconds hand didn't hit the markers perfectly. The lume was absolutely terrible and the watch had a general feeling of cheapness. The dial looks like a slate grey more often than a black.

The movement is quite good actually for the price, and the size is nice and small and comfortable... Thats about all it has going for it.

I was also sceptical about the 200m water resistance with the annoyingly small non screwdrown crown.

There are nicer looking 34mm 36mm quartz field watches out there.

This is my rant on fake watches: If you buy it to show off or trying to pass it as real, people that around you know your lifestyle, your job so more or less know your income, so if you buy something clearly out of your league, they'll assume it's fake, unless you have a lifestyle to back it up.
But if you love watches and really love the design of the royal oak, is your dream watch and there's no way you can afford it, I really don't mind someone buying the fake, I rather own a fake than a "omage", that's pretty mutch a fake with a different logo. If someone ask you if it's real just tell them that someone gave you that watch, that's pretty much a nice ylway to tell its fake or you can be straight up and tell its fake. But don't try to pass it as real, you'll be a joke one day.

One-to-three type watch fellas, do you have a watch that you practically never take off? Save for a shower maybe, or to wear a different piece for an occasion? Even during sleep, work and fugg.

The point of my question is, what is the ultimate comfy watch that needs the least amount of fidgeting with to keep precise time, in your opinion.

I found that even if a watch wears comfy throughout the day, the wrist tends to swell up a bit during sleeping? I only wear a watch at night because copious lume and an easy read, but otherwhise sleeping without one is more comfy.

I also have cheap autos that tend to need a readjustment somewhere along the week to cover my tism.

Thats why Im thinking my next purchase will be an atomic radio-controlled quartz. Too bad they ALL look like shit, no exceptions.

Don't recommend automatic watches to everyone. 99% of people don't give a shit if your watch is automatic or not. Most people think every watch is the same unless it's a Rolex, Omega, or Apple watch. An automatic watch has to be appreciated by someone who actually likes the engineering involved in the creation of an automatic watch and has to be able to deal with it not being that accurate, has to understand they are more delicate and vulnerable to things like moisture and magnetism than quartz, etc. For most people they should just get whatever affordable well made quartz watch they like.

Those Seiko field watches are honestly not very good nowadays. You pretty much have to wear it every day and be active or else the power reserve runs out surprisingly quickly. The movement is robust but has massive variance, some are off by like a minute a day. It's a total crap shoot. If you have ever had a hand-wound watch you will miss the ability to do that. They also come with a crap ass strap which you will want to replace after 20 seconds on the wrist so you have to add 10-20 dollars to the cost of the watch. If you just want something low maintenance that you don't have to care too much about and that looks decent in casual situations, just get the Timex.

Because watches are a rabbit hole and appreciating watches is very different for many people. If you want a watch because you just want something cool on your wrist that tells you the time, buy the Timex, or any quartz watch that you think looks good. It will tell accurate time and be low maintenance. If you appreciate watches because of the engineering aspect or think there's some kind of spiritual aspect to them (which a lot of people do) then it's much harder to choose and you'll probably end up wasting a lot of money. If you want a watch because you want some kind of status or recognition from it then buy a Rolex when you're 40 years old since they look almost distasteful on younger people and nobody will care except sluts.

desu im leaning more towards the seiko because of that. It'll be cool and rad to have something mechanical and with a "heartbeat". At the same time I dont think ill care enough to spend serious money on watches though, thats why im getting a cheap seiko. Its abit hard to justify spending $45ish on brass and quartz...(the timex weekender). Fashion wise it does look better than the seiko SNK800s though

If you like the look of a military field watch and don't want to spend too much money but you want something quality and low maintenance, there is a very basic Citizen that looks similar. It costs about 100 dollars, it's quartz so it's accurate but it's a high quality quartz movement and it's solar powered using the best solar power system for watches, made by a company that has real history and continues to innovate while Timex has really let itself go. I think that would be the best of both worlds.
If you want something with a heartbeat that will live and die with you, which is the romance of a mechanical watch, but you don't want to spend too much money, honestly you can get some very decent mechanical watches for 300-500 dollars these days.
If you want a mechanical I'd save up and get something quality. You don't have to spend 2000+ but if you spend a few hundred it really will make a difference and this will give you some time to find a watch that really speaks to you. Trust me, if you love the idea of a watch on an engineering level and the idea of the relationship between your energy powering that watch whether through an automatic or hand-wind movement, you need to take some time to pick a watch that will make you smile every time you look at your wrist. Otherwise you won't be happy, you'll want another watch, and you will spend a shitload of money.

>>15074571
>it's that bad...?
That's the thing, you don't know. Sometimes they're within 5 seconds a day, sometimes they're off by a minute or more. It's just not a very good movement, it's tough but very old and it shows. You have better options.
