Ok fuckers, let's update this chart. It's fairly good but it needs some refreshment as some of the stuff here is mislabeled, discontinued, showing too much of personal biases of the author or even obscure. The structure is great and descriptions are good too, let's just update content to make it more relevant and helpful. We can maybe add a new 'uncoventional' category. I'd suggest following assumptions
>we keep the structure of 4 frags in each subgroup
>for each subgroup we decide upon 1 relatively cheap and accessible fragrance - <$1/ml if possible, so the chart is helpful for everyone
>2 mid-priced fragrances between $1 and $2.5 per ml, so we can have interesting and varied choices
>1 more expensive >$2.5 per ml (if needed), so we can have snice niche things
>we pick only well-rated things as recommendations and try to give the priority to frags that are widely discussed in the community and of well deserved status
>while we obviously try to make choices as eponymous of the subgroup as possible, there's no point of having fragrances smelling virtually the same or clones - like Aventus and CDNI
>we try to keep houses on the chart varied to reflect many possible choices in modern niche perfumery

Fresh, Floral, Woody categories are more or less done already. Let's do finish orientals and continue now.

Good choice. Fun fact is that No. 89 is the original James Bond fragrance as intended by Ian Fleming as he thought of it as the quintessentially English gentleman thing to have on a shelf. You're dealing here with history. As someone else said, Floris is based af. It is everything that Creed would like to be but is not
>290 years of history (you can track how were they doing since the very beginnings unlike Creed that opened in 80s and made up its history entirely)
>in continuous hold by the same family - now 9th generation
>they've got many royal warrants, don't have to put crowns and feathers in logo to overcompensate, just simple FLORIS LONDON
>everything that they release is solid and good smelling
>you can get their classics like Santal/No 89 etc for around $90 per 100ml bottle
>also have a more challenging niche-quality line

Doing florientals (and gourmands) now. For this category, gourmands and fougeres we can fit 10-12 frags I think.
I'd kick the following:
Sooud Kanz eau fine (some random ass rose+oud, we can do so much better than that)
Christian Dior Dior Addict (c'mon that's stuff that my mum used to wear)
Montale Aoud Queen Roses (It's actually really feminine thanks to hibiscus, also Black Aoud is the most important (and imo the best) rose+oud from Montale and I think their second bestselling frag)
Isabey Lys Noir (fragrantica says it's v. feminine, I don't know how relevant this house is anyway these days)

Which leaves us with (I added some stuff I consider very worthy):
>FLORIENTAL
Montale Black Aoud
Dior Oud Ispahan
Serge Lutens Datura Noir
Tauer 01 Le Maroc Pour Elle
Byredo Mojave Ghost
Profumum Roma Battito d'Ali

Still 4 or 6 places to go, what are your suggestions lads. I added already two (probably most important to this thread) rose+ouds but perhaps we can also add one more given how big of a subgenre it became. I'll try to think of some other stuff tomorrow.

Gourmands were already quite solid. I added Goodsir, Montale Wild Pears and Choc Greedy (Montale's 1st bestseller), Zootopian Beesquad and these lovely Profumum Romas. I deleted these two (and I'm not really convinced about Bond and Shay&Blue - someone can share their thoughts on these?)
By Killian Back to Black (Or du Serail does a similar thing but in a way less sweet way and better imo)
Lolita Lempicka (discontinued)
This way we end up at the full house with 12 fragrances. As always, it's only a draft and contribute with your ideas lads though. It's not all set in stone.

I guess floriental category might confusing to some, so I'm copying the description from perfumesociety website to give some food for thought.
>The name says it all: the florientals are a sophisticated fusion of floral and oriental notes and so many fragrances now fall into this category that it’s a real family in its own right. Florientals blend flowers – including gardenia, jasmine, freesia, orange flower – with spices, warm woods and resins. The result? Fragrances that are sensual and often sweetly seductive, but generally airier and lighter than true orientals.
>This family’s growing incredibly fast. Pretty soon, we expect to be able to add new family members within it, with fragrances that beef up the spiciness, the woodiness, or the fruits. For now, though, lots to explore.
>>15041246
We've got Bee here and will include couple more. I was thinking of Dodo for fougeres, Hummingbird/Civet to chypres. This would make 4 Zootopians already. I really like the brand and tested all of them (but Squid) but we should keep in mind that in 2 years time half of these can be discontinued just like Bat was and they will only occupy space on the chart needlessly. However, I reckon we should put T-Rex into 'unconventional' category if we end up with it.

True, that is a lot of Zootopians. They’re all, pretty so,I’d picks, though. Civet is a great chypre. Dodo is polarizing, but a very snice unconventional fougere. Bee has to be in gourmands, because it’s fantastic, and because the Buzzgang will kill us otherwise.

I don’t know, though, I just think T Rex has to be there somewhere. It’s just such an odd, creative, high-quality fragrance that more people really need to try. It’s very challenging and not at all wearable, but it’s so unique and really shows the artistic side of perfumery.

>> No.15041280

>>15041272
Sure, but that's also why we must balance out somewhere between big houses with reliable production chains like LAP/Serge Lutens as their stuff won't be discontinued any time soon and smaller niche things that might just produce two batches. That's why I wouldn't go too heavy on the latter. For example I'd like to include some of Bortnikoffs/Areejs that I consider really exceptional fragrances but I don't have any illusions that they might not be available anymore even before we finish with the chart. I don't know when in future someone will bother with redoing it again.

there's a story to be told. of good and evil. a cosmic schism, a wild funnel where the point of singularity, the final escape is only the beginning. the story is true and it's become a cold tale told in warm places. a story of the eater and the eaten. people speak of ysl. yes, they speak of the house and it's cherished, it's glistenings. of it's revered, always it's revered with that air of sophistication, of softness and care. something complacent and beautiful and has made a custom of turning it's back on it's wicked dealings, it's past it hopes to forget in the silence of death. this has become futile, because in the years since the tremor has only become more violent, and in these years they've learned to disregard the hunger. they've starved it but is doesn't die. it only becomes hungrier... and in it's place they've become a symbol of regality, of sterile streamlined luxury in a white room. le vestiaire des parfums they call it. simplicity and elegance. a swooning dance in sweeping silk on a bed of vapors... a dream even. all in vain because it's been fed only the best, and it's never known a want. it's slept ceaslessly, carelessly above the earth where at it's center spins in pangs of hunger and fury, of agony something brutish. they say it may come later. but later is now, the hour is now. it's been a matter of then but not now and then is now and now has been here forever... and they say to always remember that saying said only in the dark: "Tuxedo is the mother, Kouros is the wolf."

I've just bought a bottle of ombre leather off of notino because I've tried it before and really liked it but I've got a few questions I'm hoping you guys can help with. I know this is retarded because I definitely should've asked all of this stuff way before I bought it.

First of all, notino is a safe site to buy fragrances from right? I know it's in the sticky but I just wanted to double check if anyone else has bought from them. Also, I smoke Regal blues, they leave a sort of soft tobacco smell on me and aside from that I tend to have quite a neutral smell without fragrances, will ombre leather compliment a light tobacco scent, clash with it in an odd way or completely cover it up? I'm willing to stop smoking if need be but my sense of smell isn't too sharp so I wouldn't notice if it was clashing. Sorry, I'm a major beginner when it comes to this but I'm trying to slowly introduce myself into fragrances.

>> No.15043288

>> No.15043333

>>15043288
Thanks man, I'm a really light smoker, like one a day on the days that I feel in the mood or maybe five if I'm out drinking with mates and Regals are quite a natural tobacco smell rather than a harsh chemical smell so it's never too strong. It definitely doesn't mesh well with standard cheap fragrances like one million though because it's an odd clash. I did consider the Tom Ford vanilla tobacco or whatever it was but I backed out just in case it was too strong and made me smell like a chain smoker.

It's honestly pretty hard to describe. You can tell right away what it is when you first smell it, because it's so distinct
Not really animalic, not even close to smelling organic, It's clean like iris and myrrh are clean.
By itself, it smells metallic and sharp, chemical-like. This makes ambrette 9 smell like a very soft paint thinner. This is why I preferred CdN, it's clearly more creative and interesting.
It's very pungent when you smell it up close but the scent trail smells precisely like cedar drenched in sea water, and the ambrette+orris is what makes it smell salty like the sea and metallic like a freighter

So yes, in this case Philosykos would work, but also Frederic Malle's Bigarade Concentree or L'Artisan Parfumeur's Histoire d'Orangers.
If it's medieval philosophy, then that was done mostly in the monasteries, so something very incensey, again LAP with their amazing Passage d'Enfer, or Heeley's Cardinal.
If it's modern philosophy you're reading, and now I'm thinking of Descartes, Voltaire, Hume, Hegel and Schopenhauer specifically, they were all dandies who regularly met with the elites of their time (Descartes has lots of correspondence with some french princess, Voltaire was personally awarded a medal by King George I) so I would say something extremely elegant, such as FM's Monsieur, TF Beau du Jour, Eau Sauvage or some fancy Guerlain (for the frenchies, obviously).
If you're reading contemporary philosophy, well, who the fuck cares?

Every creed is already mainstream. It’s baby’s first niche. Everyone has heard of creed and multiple frags in the line. Plenty are nothingburgers not even worth mentioning. Creed is wildly overrated as a whole, Viking is good and aventus is good. But not 300-400 good. It’s zero threat to any house, you are either priced out and can’t afford it or you can afford it and go with Frederic Malle like anyone should with that much money.

Sadanne review is up hookeranon. I have my mortal skin review as well but I’m deciding on pulling the plug on MS and re shooting it because I was a little scatter brained. Mortal skin is so hard to review because it’s so strange. So much of it is indescribable. It’s just an aura, like a feeling rather than a fragrance. It smells like another dimension I struggled to find words for it.

Thank you, based ScentScav. Appreciate you doing a review pretty much just for my benefit, if we’re being honest. I agree with your take, though I do find it a bit more funky and animalic than you do. I did notice that my bottle is a fair bit darker than yours, though, almost orange. Not sure if mine’s perhaps just more macerated or if there are batch variations and maybe my bottle has more of the funkiness than yours. I do get a lot more of the ambergris and even possibly a little oud. It is, like you say, not the main thing you pick up, the strawberry/rose/wine combo is still front and center, but it’s certainly noticeable to me. Also could just be skin chemistry differences, I suppose.

Really too bad it’s discontinued. Very underrated scent. Who knows, maybe in a couple years Josh’s get it into his head to make more? Or he’ll be dead. Really 50/50 with that guy.

I've posted on this before, I really like Vetiver, I go through a fair bit of it. It's the frag I reach for when I want something that interests me but is inoffensive enough for work. A fairly clean, fresh vetiver to my nose, citrus and soapy character.

I didn't pay too much attention and bought the EDT of Habit Rouge instead of the EDP which I hear is the real masterpiece. Despite that, the EDT is still and incredibly luxurious, warm, grand, rose driven frag with a bit of wood and leather. I wear it around the house and to bed a lot, but don't wear it out often. Really nice but has less utility for me.

I don't yet own Heritage.

I think so, I sampled it twice, still have part of the 15ml left. It's very beginner friendly amber, not animalic, a "balanced" sweetness that to me is not dry, dusty, and powdery like other ambers are. Shot of citrus at the top, and then the rose comes in wrapped in resinous goodness, and it seems there is a hint of spice in the background, but nothing specific you could ever pick out. It just feels so warm and cozy when I put it on, my synapses light up like a Christmas tree.

Abysmal performance. A damn shame, I really really like it. It probably lasts as long as other neroli light scents, but its not strong like I want. Theres a 100ml for 156 on fleabay Ill probally end up getting because I'm a cuck and cant find anything better. Sampled TF NP at the same time and walked away with this. Its probably basic bitch dryer sheets for robot people, but I like it. Maybe I'm just going noseblind to it really soon, its just musk and amber, but not a funky musk just a clean warm smell. Very similar to the TF but with sweeter from the ambroxan or whatever and less background floral that gives the TF the depth. Its very pleasant, I tried Chypre mojo and decided mango is not for me, and milky musk, which i dunno, smells like sweet cum and something creamy maybe. Pass, but there are still 2-3 that sound ok.

Just picked it up a few days ago, went in for the Luna Rossa Carbon, after falling in love with some samples. I tried Carbon Black, but didn't like it despite the rave reviews I've heard about it. However, after I tried this, I did something I normally never do and just bought it. Smells amazing, and it's the winter time, where I am. I can't wait to wear it in the spring/summer. I love fresh, soapy and or powdery scents and this is both.
